My dd who is 11 has had the usual comments of "get back in the biscuit tin ginger" since starting secondary school and so far she's not too bothered but time will tell, she is really proud of her hair and has the attitude of -its only an insult if i let it bother me. And for anyone who has younger children, someone got my dd a book for her birthday one year called Mollys hair and its a fab book about how molly hated her red hair but by the end of the story she realised how beautiful it was to be different. My dd will never let go of that book as it really helped her.

Kids can be absolute monsters!

My son, now 21, was bullied for having ginger hair and my friend's 14 year old daughter has just had blonde highlights put in her ginger hair for the same reason.......:)

For the record I love ginger / red hair

OK Guys, you've hit a nerve with me here, (Bestford you know why).

Megan, your beautiful, (in fact your stunning, and you will turn a lot of heads) when the now boys, turn into men they will be falling all over the place to be on your arm. remember this, who appreciated the fact that you were a redhead!!!
I'm a redhead and proud of it. I was not bullied at school, (BECAUSE I WOULD NOT ALLOW IT).
I hear what a lot of you dissers say, in particular young girls. WE DO NOT DYE OUR HAIR. we wear it with pride and dignity.
is anyone aware that we are not allowed to comment on peoples(in no particular order)
ethnicity
weight
age
sex
etc etc etc
is'nt funny that it's not against the law (but unethical) to comment on the colour of someones hair????

I will tell you a little story, i was brought up in a fishing village. now fishermen are a supersticous bunch. they would not go to sea if they passed a crosseyed blueyed redhead on their way to the harbour. do you know that my parents never ever paid for fish, why, because my dad taught me how to cross my eyes and threatened the fishermen that they would meet me down at the harbour wall. so it does have its good points being a redhead....lol

so the moral of the story is, we redheads stick together. Any problems please feel free to PM me, i dare say that i can get an anti-redhead hit squad together:rotfl2:

Oh by the way, as an ex soldier, her majesty does not recognise "redhead" or "ginger" all through my army career i was classed as "auburn" whats that all about?????? some so and so in whitehall obviously does'nt know how to spell "redhead" or "ginger".

gingers of the world unite........:dance3:

Harry, you're nuts, I wondered when you'd find this thread :thumbsup2

Arun, in turn, became the class clown - it didn't stop the bullying but he has a lot of 'true' friends and, though I say so myself, is the most helpful, friendly person you could meet :goodvibes

We got that for our Molly before she had hair!! Then it wasn't ginger. A beautifully written book which we still often read :)

Hi, this is Megan, Gaynor's daughter.

I have been reading all of these lovely comments and it has definitely boosted my confidence. I have decided I am not going to dye my hair because, as my mum said, one day when i'm older i will probably love my hair and if i did dye it i would regret it. If it wasn't for all of these comments I would probably be dying it so i'm very greatful. Thank you all for saying i'm so pretty you have definitely boosted my confidence!

Hi Megan, you are clearly mature beyond your years :) I'm sorry you've experienced such cruel behaviour but it's likely that there is some jealously involved as you clearly stand out from the crowd with your colour hair. Even now if I go to a make up demo or clothes display I know that I'll be selected for the demonstration as it makes it more interesting/challenging for the person running the event (I think its my hair colour rather than me looking more awful than usual ;))

I hope things are better for her now. As a fellow "ginge", or redhead as i technically am, i had this a lot at school and have to say i still do occasionally if i am on a night out. Kids are vile at school and do it to look cool, they will randomly choose something to pass the time that day. It really hurts and i can fully sympathise but the best thing to do is ignore it because at the end of the day it is either silly little boys who are yet to hit maturity or jealous girls who look the same as everyone else and can't bear that someone can stand out and be lovely without trying. (can't you tell how many times my mom has had this chat with me in the past :) )

"slap a ginger day" is so childish and i have to say i can't believe it is still going
