We're heading down to Disney next week and was hoping that someone could give us a heads up to the love bug situation. Are they out yet? If they are, how bad is it. We went a couple of years ago in September and it was pretty nasty. Now we're traveling with our 11 month old and are wondering if we need to buy netting for his stroller. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks

According to Wikipedia . . .

Lovebug flights can number in the hundreds of thousands. The slow, drifting movement of the insects is almost reminiscent of snow fall. The flights occur twice each year, first in late spring, then again in late summer. The spring flight occurs during late April and May. The summer flight occurs during late August and September.

Flights extend over periods of 4 to 5 weeks.

Just returned on 9/6 and saw 2 "couples":goodvibes

They must be gearing up, but the weather may have something to do with their slow start. I forgot about this being the season until I saw them.

I live in SW Florida, and we haven't seen the fall batch of them yet. Doesn't mean they aren't coming, though. Good luck!

yup we left on the 4th and we did see a few here and there.

SAme here, we saw a few there and there (i got home today from my trip) ---but I HAVE seen it WAYYY worse, so I'm sure it's coming VERY soon. Have fun there.

Thank you all for your updates. Leave 1 week from today and hope they stay away for a while.

Was just in the Orlando area over the weekend.

Did not see any lovebugs at WDW on Friday--but thought the rain may have discouraged them.

On Saturday my husband and I spent the entire day at the pool. We were staying in Champions Gate and there were MANY lovebugs. Not the snowfall that I've seen described, or anything like that, but we did send several couples to "Romeo-and-Juliet-land" when they repeatedly, albeit unintentionally, I'm sure, harassed us.

I know they don't bite or sting or anything bad, but they are ANNOYING. I would take the netting for your 11 month old.

Have a great time!

I think all the love bugs are here at my house. I live in south la. and they are really bad right now, especially since Hurricane Gustav. Not sure about when Fl. gets them. Maybe buy a net for the baby's stroller just in case, they are more annoying than anything.

I understand traveling at night isnt as lovebug infested as day. We always wax our vehicle before leaving home so it will help get those pesky critters off a bit easier. They can ruin a paint job.

They're just an annoyance when they are around. They don't bite.

My six year-old wants me to pass along her advice - "Don't eat them." That's what I always tell her whenever she sees a bug of some type, which is a nearly daily event in South Florida.

If you are driving, all rest areas on the Florida Turnpike have windshield washer stations. Usually they are after the concession area as you are starting to exit the rest area. You just pull up and stop and the water automatically comes on to wash your windshield. It's not perfect, but it helps.

Have a great trip.

Thank you everyone for your help. The wife is going to run out this weekend and grab a net for the stroller. I'm hoping we don't have to use it but better safe than sorry. Now that we've got the bugs under control, if we can only do the same for any upcoming storms. :( Please don't rain....please don't rain :worship:
