Anybody have a short DD?

I'm 5' 9" and I agree with Jenn that it's no fun being this tall. It was worse in hs when most of the boys were shorter and the taller ones all went for the petite girls. I have twin dd's7. One is tall for her age and has a heavier build, not fat but solid. She's been tall enough for all the rides since she was 3, but she's the ride chicken. Her twin, the dare devil who will ride anything they'll let her on, is petite. She's 4" shorter and almost 10 lbs lighter, with a very thin build. She's usually taken for a 5 yr old while her sister is usually thought to be in 3rd gr (they're in 1st). Smaller dd is barely 45" while her twin is 49". Smaller dd is probably taking after my MIL, she's about 5'2", but the thin build is from me, tho you would never believe it to see me now! Bigger dd and ds12 get their height from both me and dh (6' 3"). Ds is 5'1" and hasn't had a growth spurt yet, but his feet are men's 10 1/2, bigger then his father's!

At 26 and only 4'10 i hear it all the time STILL! i don't care though i have never been happier! i've been small my whole life and i love it! my husband is over 6ft tall and we do worry aobut the height of our son but that's about it. i LOVE being small iw as a cheerleader in Highschool and was always at the top! woohoo!! i got great shoes (the small ones are always on sale and soooo cute!!) and even though everything had to be hemmed up including pants, i still loved it!! i even shopped in the kids sections for clothes (SOO CHEAP) up until i got married! haha..She will fall in love with her height soon,it takes some longer than others. I have never ever wished to be taller even when i am carrying DD (15months old) and people comment jokingly how she is almost as big as i am....oh dear i just laugh and say nothing cause i'm happy :) Oh and my DH happens to love that i'm 'pocket sized' haha he's wierd :)

My 16 year old sister is just over 5 feet. And my cousin's wife may even be shorter than her.

My youngest daughter is 15, she'll be 16 in August, and she is 4' 10 1/2". Have to get that half inch in there! I think she has finally come to terms with the fact that she probably isn't going to grow any taller. She's been this same height for about three years now. I'm only 5' and her older sister is 5'1".

My daughter went through a stage, from about the age of 12 to 14, where she hated being short. The kids at school called her shorty, pipsqueak, lil'bit, you name it. Most of them were not really trying to be mean, but it did bother her. Freshman year in high school was particularly trying for her. She's now a Sophomore, and not only one of the shortest, but also one of the youngest.

The thing she hates the most is people thinking she's a lot younger than she is, because not only is she short, but she's petite and young looking. A few weeks ago, she had to have her wisdom teeth removed and when she went into the oral surgeon's office, two of the nurses kept fawning over her and sayig things like, "OMG! She is just adorable!" "Oh she is so cute!" I didn't even want to look at my daughter because I knew she was probably shooting daggers at them!

Anyway, I guess I just want to say that I understand what you and your daughter are dealing with as far as the height issue! Hang in there. It'll get better!! :grouphug:

OK..now I'm crying again, but only because you all are so nice! :grouphug:

Thank you all for your sweet words and compliments. (that is my dd in my sig.)

In the grand scheme of things I know this is such a small issue (no pun intended..lol). Especially considering how very lucky we are to have her at all, AND with no long term health problems to boot!

Thank you all for the support!

DisneyMommyMichelle - Your post made me smile! :goodvibes
You sound so happy! Your DH truly sounds like Prince Charming!

You sound so much like me. I can't look at my DD when we go out to eat and they hand her a childrens menu. Oh if looks could kill :teeth:

My best friend is exactly 5 ft. And let me tell you, she is the one person that I have known in my whole life that is larger than life! She has the most awesome and funny personality of anyone I know! She could always get the guys faster than anyone of my friends, she was and still is the life of the party. Tell her that she is beautiful, which she is, and that height isn't everything. That woman by the way, needs to drink a big old glass of shutup juice! :rotfl2:

She is only 2 inches shorter than me :goodvibes

:confused3 Where did this happen at? If it was one of my inlaws I apologize, they all have footinmouth disease. :sad2:

She is a beautiful girl, 4-10 or 5-10. :goodvibes :goodvibes

This happens ALL the time! I really cringe when they ask if she'd like crayons, too!

I would qoute someone, but I have too much I would want to respond too.

I am 5 feet tall, my mother 4'11. My niece is 4'11 and 14 years old. She looks younger then her age too. Mostly because she doesn't dress like a bratz doll. :rotfl: or wear too much make up. She is very self concious about it. I keep telling her to get used to it and enjoy it as much as you can. I never minded.

Like DisneyMommyMichelle I was a cheerleader in HS (Always on top.), I was in gymnatics and and dance and it always worked for me. I was always getting "picked up" by guys, (litteraly, I didn't like that part so much.) My friends always got mad at me because I somehow managed to get the tall boyfriends. My DH is 5 11, so my girls could be tall, but I don't see that happening. They are both tiny just like me. My 5 year old weighs 34 pounds, my 20 month old is under 20 pounds still. My doc recently said if my DD continues her growth path she will be 5 feet like me.

BTW, the 1st words my DH ever said to me was "Gee you are short." He wasn't too good around girls, but I taught him well. :rotfl: :lmao:

Most people who know me sometimes are suprized how short I am. They say I just don't seem that way.

Your DD is beautiful. She can make it work for her. ;) (I know mine will.)

BTW your picture in your sig, your DS looks just like my friends little brother growing up. He is now 25 years old and married with a new baby. He is a super cutie too. I think your DS will be also. :goodvibes

Brier Rose thank you, i just want her to see all the positives about being small!! and yes i did marry my prince charming :) :) okay enough smiling and onto some serious laughter!! that Kids menu thing brought back memories of 2 YEARS AGO!!! yup! DH and i went with my aunt and my father and sister (who is 5'7 by the way and 3yrs younger!!!) to Dave and Busters (a gaming place) we went to the restaurant inside and my dad was like ummm table for 5 and the waitress says oh and one kids menu?!?!?!?! WHAT>!>! hahahah i laughed and said sure if the food cheaper, but don't forget the crayons and a drink menu of course cause i'm dyin' for a beer :)
Always fun when the people are younger than you and assume you are a kid :)

See...now I think this is funny because my DD steals the boys crayons! Of course, she just turned 12, so maybe in a few years it will be different. She still *loves* when she still gets to be counted as a kid (since she's at that borderline age - some places the children's menu goes to 12, others 10, etc... and when we went to Disney it was right when they changed the ages!) She loves doing all the mazes and things on the back of kid's menus but then again she does math workbooks for fun, so :confused3

I'm just dreading the day her brother actually passes her up. I think that will not be a good day.

LOLOL OK ya'll are making me remember something funny that happened.

A few years ago on our way back from WDW (we drove) we were checking out of the hotel we had stayed in for the night and the clerk looked at my husband and said.. so Mr. so and so did you and your 3 daughters (meaning our 2 DDs and myself) enjoy your stay.

LOLOL I laughed.. looked up at him (he is 6'2") and said "yeah DAD.. did we???"

My DD 22 is 5'1". She has been this height since about 14. She also looks very young, about 15. She is the smallest of the girls, her sisters are 5'5" and 5'8".

She has a her own daughter and many times when they are out together, people mistake her for a babysitter because she is petite and young looking.

Her DH is only 5'4" and they make the cutest couple.

Remember good things come in small packages. :goodvibes

My DD is 5', short and sassy!!!!!!! she's 36

I'm only 4'11", and I'm 48. I've never had medical problems, I just have short parents :)

There is nothing wrong with being petite. You will always be taken for younger than your age, for some reason people associate "shortness" with "youngness"... not a bad deal. Of course your DD will hate that when she is young, but as she gets older, she will love it!

When I had my oldest DS (I was 30, so no youngster), a woman came to my front door. I answered the door with my baby in my arms... she asked me if my mother was at home!!!

When DH and I were dating (I think I was 20 years old) we played putt putt golf with a group. After we paid we realized they charged me the kids rate. The thing was I only saved $1. If I want to be mistaken for half my age I at least want to save some money. The thing is out of that group I was the oldest. (I am 3 months older then DH and the rest were all 18 years old.)

My daughter, 15, HATES it when she is out and the young boys, 12 or 13, are checking her out. And, when she is out with her girlfriends, the guys are looking at them, not her. Not that she isn't pretty or attractive, because she definitely is. It's just that when you put her with her girlfriends, they all look a lot older than she does, and most of them have, shall I say, a lot more to look at in some areas.

She hates it, but her dad and I don't mind at all! :rotfl2:

I have a close friend who's 4'11" and she's always telling me how difficult it is to find clothes in her size that aren't in the children's department. I've always had the opposite problem. I'm 5'9"...stopped growing when I was about 13. I'm the shortest in my family. My sisters, my brother and my father are all taller than I am. However, my daughter is on the short side. I'm assuming she takes after her father's side of the family. I would be appalled if someone spoke to my daughter that way and made her feel bad. I'm so sorry. :grouphug:

I was carded until I was 45. Now at that point I had a 15yo daughter. It is nice to look younger than you are but sometimes it is a nuisance.
