Anybody have a Kindle

Yep I have one.
I have not actually "bought" any books for it. I have been loading it with the free books.
I just can't seem to get over paying for a book and not having the actual physical book that I can share with others (if I like it) and display on a shelf.
Must be the librarian in me!
So since the beginning of April I've read about 15 books on the kindle and about 10 regular books. I like the "real" books beter.
But I do have to say the kindle books take up WAAAAAY less space on the bookshelf

I have one and I love it
I buy lots of books beacuse it is cheaper
I like it because I dont have to find room for so many books in hard or paper back

No. I would never buy a Kindle because it's sold on Amazon. When Amazon sold that book about How to Be a Pediphile, I closed my account and moved on. I won't buy from them again. Pigs.

Yes, and I love it. There's tons of threads about kindles on here, if you do a search of the forum you'll find plenty of opinions.

I love my kindle, the only compliant I have is that the price of some books are going up, up, up!!! New releases used to be $9.99 than they jumped to 12.99 and now some are 14.99! Now, yes I do buy new releases and would gladly pay $9.99 for them, I just don't like the idea of paying 14.99 when I could get the hardcover for a dollar or so more. I also noticed yesterday that Atlas Shrugged is almost twice as much for the kindle version than the paperback! I did just read last night that you will be able to borrow library books on the kindle soon!

Overall though I would highly recommend a Kindle, there is a great selection of free and .99 books on Amazon, and a lot of classics are avaliable for free, I just reread almost all of the Anne of Green Gables series and that was a lot of fun. I would never have bought the books to read but they were free. It was also cool because I downloaded the books in the car while we were on a roadtrip!

Yes, and I love it! I didn't really want one, and ended up receiving it as a Christmas gift from my dad and his girlfriend because they didn't know what to get me. I wasn't very thrilled, and debated returning it(my dad's girlfriend told me they'd be totally fine if I returned it for something I would use more). I ended up deciding to try it and see if I liked it, and I immediately discovered that I loved it

I download a lot of the free books and read those, but I have purchased some as well. I love that all the classic books are free- it's actually been great for school, as well. Instead of paying for the classic book, I can download it for free from amazon.

Full disclosure...hubby works for amazon (as did I, it's where we met, working customer service) and in the Kindle department.

I never wanted a kindle until DH got the job and brought one home. I used it for a couple days and now I don't know how I lived without it.

I take it you only listened to soundbites not the whole thing, and I take it you didn't notice that they did, in fact, get rid of the book?

People who don't know how amazon works freaked themselves out and made a huge deal out of a book that probably no one but the author himself had ever bought. It was a self-published book, it was brand new, and books are uploaded by automation NOT after someone looks at it. In all likelihood no one at amazon had seen it or heard of it, and probably no readers had ever seen the page UNTIL it was made such a huge deal.

IMO all that needed to happen was for people to calmly let amazon know about the book. The whole stink about it was just obnoxious to me, because people just have no clue how books are put on the site, and no one wanted to listen to reason (and the reasons) about it.

Interesting tidbit:

When ABCNews.com spoke to the book's author Wednesday afternoon, Greaves said he had sold just one copy of the book. But according to TechCrunch, sales of the book skyrocketed after news of its controversy spread across the Internet.

Makes you wonder who managed to find the newly published book, and what their purpose was in creating such inflammatory stuff about it...since the author definitely profited by the firestorm if more books were sold...

..."and to a certain extent I wanted that kind of notoriety to affect the book. ... I wanted it to effect sales," he said.

Sounds like those who bought into the soundbite were helping out the author....

I love my Kindle, but don't like not being able to share the books I pay for. I feel it's wrong to only be able to loan them once! So now, if the Kindle book is the same price as a PB or HB book, I will still buy the regular book so it's easier to share with friends and family. So far I have not "shared" my Kindle with DH, and feel a little guilty about it. I want to buy him his own but am hoping I can hold out until the next generation comes out, then download all of my books to his new Kindle. I have gotten around 100 free books on the Kindle, but I also buy quite a few too. I love not having to store more books, because we're out of room for bookcases and books. Really, the only thing I don't like about the Kindle is not being able to freely share my books with my friends.

I, too, was going to buy Atlas Shrugged on the Kindle this week and was flabbergasted at how expensive it was. It is $18.99!!! No thanks, I'll pick up a used copy on eBay or the used bookstore. That is ridiculous!

You can get all of these out of copyright books for free through Gutenberg.org :thumbsup2. I read the first 2 books in the Anne series.

I LOVE having an Ereader. I think it is one of the best inventions as of late. I have over 300 books between my Nook and my Kindle app on my phone (I have a Nook color). I have only paid for a handful of those books. I have read books I would never have read before because they were free. I have found several new authors I like. I always have a "book" with me (via my Droid X or my Nook). It's great when you are in a waiting room somewhere :thumbsup2.

I love mine. There are so many books out there, that I have no problem finding something to read at a reasonable price.

A couple of women in my office each got a Kindle for Christmas. They both love the convenience when travelling to NYC regularly without the bulk of carrying books.

Because of their excitement I downloaded the Droid app on my phone, and also have Kindle for PC downloaded on my netbook. I  the convenience of reading on one device, stopping and picking up on the other without losing my place or worrying about a bookmark falling out from between the pages. I'm hoping to eventually get the actual Kindle, but the downloads are free and I have access to free and paid books. I have 20 books downloaded now that I haven't read yet - I think the last series I read ruined me (I thought it was that good that I haven't been able to begin another book). I read about 20 books in Februay and March, and kinda stopped reading for a while...saving for the beach perhaps.

The two who have the Kindle have different models. One has the WiFi/3G and the other has the WiFi only. Based on their experience - if you don't have access to WiFi regularly, go for the WiFi/3G Kindle which can operate wirelessly like a cell phone. The one who has the WiFi only doesn't have cell service at home, and she can not seem to connect the WiFi in her home either....but she can download in WiFi hot spots.:confused3 She wants to exchange for the Wifi/3G in order to have more options where she can "buy" books....like while riding the bus from PA to NY.

I got mine this past Christmas - love love love it:lovestruc did I mention I love it???:lmao:
By far the best gift I've received in a long time, I take it pretty much everywhere - and like some PPs, it is loaded with lots of the free books

It's wonderful. Especially for travel. It really "lightens the load". I gave one to my entire family(immediate; DH and Dkids) for Christmas. It was A Kindle Christmas! :goodvibes

I have the Kindle app on my phone. Since I can do that, I see no reason for another device.

I started using my Nook/Kindle apps on my phone. I have to say that actually using my Nook is a lot easier-not turning the pages as much, not a huge deal but I do like the bigger size of the Nook for extended reading.

I got one as a Christmas gift and I love it. I've downloaded many classic books for free, ones that I never read in my youth. I have neck problems, and heavy books were a problem for me - this is so light and easy! I have the lighted cover, which is great for reading in bed at night.
