I need some information about Daytona Beach. Are hotels up and running? Restaurants open? I need info about the Beachcomer, 2000 N. Atlantic. We are scheduled to spend ten days there in a week. Are we a go or no go?
Sorry for being selfish, worrying about my vacation when so many people have lost so much. I hope Ivan misses Florida.
Stay safe.

Not yet, planning to call them on Sunday. Hoping someone here can give me some info.

If you're still around, have you heard anything from the Beachcomer? We were in Daytona Beach Friday the 10th and things did not look good.

We had planned to spend Labor Day weekend at The Ocean Walk but just headed to Disney instead. We stopped back, hoping to stay at least one night there before heading home, and The Ocean Walk was the only hotel that didn't seem to have water damage so it was booked. We headed North on Atlantic looking for a room and just about every hotel was closed including The Beachcomer. We had stayed there before, so I had my fingers crossed, but they were loading wet musty matresses into a truck and it didn't look like they were going to recover very quickly. In fact the whole area was still sadly boarded up and none of the street lights were working. Adam's Mark even said they may not be open until the end of Sept. We ended up spending the night at our in-laws in St. Augustine.

I hope somehow everything is miraculously back to normal for your trip. We were so disappointed, so I know how you feel.
We did appreciate the hour we spent having lunch and looking at the ocean from The Ocean Deck restuarant though. They were open and it's a great place if you decide not to cancel.

Also, here's a thread from the budge board on restuarants.

If you go, please let me know how it was. We felt terrible for everyone there, so I'd love to hear that everything is open and sunny again.

We found out last Saturday that the Beachcomer will be closed until Feb. We are going to Disney instead. We do plan to take a drive there to see how things are. It doesn't sound good for that area. ComEd trucks from the Chicago area left over the weekend to help in Daytona Beach. I feel very sad for the people who lost so much.

I have not been able to get in touch with my husband since the thursday before Francis. He lives in daytona Beach- beach side and I cannot even get thru to his cell phone. He owns his own construction business there so I am assuming he is ok, and just working ALOT....but not getting thru to the cell is bothering me!

I hope your husband is fine and just very busy. Maybe the cell towers are down. Hope you reach him soon. Is there anyone you could call to check on his business? He is probable working hard.
