The other night I was looking for a particular Christmas song that we only have on a vinyl album, which led me to look through all the albums, which led me to pull out John Denver's Greatest Hits album.

I sure wish he was still around.

Absolutely. I listen to his music all the time. Many people don't realize that he was the author for many songs done by other artists at the time. His concert was probably the best concert I ever attended, and I've been to many.

When ever I feel a little down, I listen to Calypso. I was also a very big fan of Jaques Cousteau. It is very up lifting!

John Denver was really the soundtrack to my parents' lives. There was a special on the other day about him and they both got a little misty eyed. My sister and I have grown up listening to his stuff to and I would have loved to have gone to a concert. He was much to young to die. :( Though his music will forever get us through many long car trips to the beach each year. :)

I do.
My parents listened to him when I was young and I thought he was kind of a dope.

But then, one night when I was pregnant with DS, DH and I were channel surfing and landed on "Take Me Home: The John Denver Story". We watched the entire maudlin, tear-jerking movie right to the very end. Then went to WalMart the next day and bought a copy of his greatest hits album.

I STILL tear up when I hear "Annie's Song".

You fill up my senses, like a night in the forest.
Like the mountains in springtime, like a walk in the rain...like a storm in the desert, like a sleepy blue ocean.
You fill up my senses, come fill me again.
Come let me love you. Let me give my life to you.
Let me drown in your laughter, let me die in your arms.
Let me lay down beside you, let me always be near you.
Come let me love you. Come love me again.
You fill up my senses, like a night in the forest.
Like the mountains in springtime, like a walk in the rain.
Like a storm in the desert, like a sleepy blue ocean.
You fill up my senses..come love me again.

Wow...didn't think I would admit this to the public, but I watch an hour special on his life earlier this week! He was a great musician!!! :goodvibes

Yes I sure do miss John :guilty: love all of his music.

I grew up loving him and his music. I was lucky enough to see him in concert 3 or 4 times. I'm playing one of his Christmas CDs right now.

Funny you bring him up. Our family movie nite this week was "Oh God." I loved his music and enjoyed his movies too.

I LOVE!!!! John Denver! He and I were born in the same town in NM (he was born much earlier than me). I just identified w/ him so much. His music was just so beautiful.
A couple of years ago my DH bought me his boxed set of music and I listen to it all the time.

There was a special on the other night..."John Denver, a Song's Best friend". It was really great. He was so talented and just seemed like such a nice guy.

I was sort of a casual fan back in the day, but my then BF and I thought it would be fun to see him in concert since he was playing right at West Conn, very close to us.

OMG! :earseek: WHAT a concert! What a night! What a darn funny guy! :cloud9: After that I was hooked!

FeralPeg, I so agree about Calypso. What an amazing song. :goodvibes

Yes! What a sad and much too early loss! I need to go put on the John Denver/Muppets Christmas album now!!! :goodvibes

The only time that I've ever gotten up the nerve to sing karaoke was the John Denver tune "Annie's Song". I always loved the sound of his voice and his lyrics. His voice was silenced way too soon.

Yes, I miss John Denver. :(

You were born in Roswell, NM? So was I!

Best Christmas album ever!! :goodvibes

I grew up with him too...my mom was a big fan. I remember running around to "Grandma's Feather Bed".

ETA: now I have this running through my head:

Well I love my wife and I love my fiddle
Sun's coming up I got cakes on the griddle
Life ain't nothin' but a funny funny riddle......

OOps! forgot to quote 1st time.

Yep.
In the "Official UFO Museum" (yes, there really is one) they list one of the 2 supposed locations of the UFO landing on my Grandparents ranch north of town.
Spent 1965 (birth) to 1983 (off to college) in Roswell. I love that town!

That museum is a great place. For me: 1970 (birth) and 1989 (off to the Navy) and 1998 (left for school in Boston and stayed)

When I was in college I checked a tape out of the library of the Chad Mitchell trio...John Denver was part of the trio. I wonder if I could find that again.....

Yes, DH and I listen to John Denver music often. We saw him in concert and took our sons when they were young. They now listen to his songs as well. A friend recently went to a "Tribute to John Denver" in NJ recently and she enjoyed it. If something like that comes around here, I would like to go.

I particularly like "Sunshine on my Shoulders." It just feels so good!
