Anybody else constantly fighting for Disney?!

I don't agree at all. There are plenty of fabulous vacations that can be had with young kids all over the world. Though, if you go into something with an attitude that it will be too hard, then it will be. A self-fulfilling prophecy.

It's the OP that's being self-centered. She's not even considering what her husband wants. They've been to Disney alreadu. However, her attitude is Disney or no vacation at all.

I don't really think anyone is disputing that fabulous vacations can be had all over the world. However, the OP is 100% certain that Disney is her favorite spot and I'm sure her daughter as well. So if they want to go to Disney every year, why shouldn't they be able to? And I posted earlier in this thread that the OP should have made it clear to Shamus that an annual trip to Disney was a must. If there was a place I went to every year, I would make it clear to point that out before even considering marriage to gauge the other person's reaction.

I was responding to someone who said there is a long list of vacations a person can't enjoy with young kids.

The OPs daughter is 2. She doesn't have a favorite spot. Her favorite spot is what her mother has decided it to be.

The OP is threatening that if she doesn't get Disney every year, then no vacations for the next 6 years. How juvenile is that? Sure, in an ideal world, it would be nice to have Disney and another vacation each year, but that may not always be possible. If the OP was a grown-up, she'd actually try compromising instead of throwing out ultimatums. It will not kill her to skip Disney one year.

Paris? Wouldn't do it with a 2-year-old. Likewise, most of Europe. Or Africa, or South America, or most other continents, in fact. Too much money for too little payback. Vegas? Nope. Out West? Eh I might like to look at a lot of rocks for a long time. Probably not a 2-year-old, though.

D.C. Maybe, if I lived nearby. Cruises, yes. Done that, in fact. Beaches, yes, simple hotels with pools, yes, friends' houses, yes, family reunions, yes.

A WDW vacation with a young child is easy and fun and they can do a lot. It's not a week of "Don't touch that!"

Meh. We did Spain with a 3 year old and had a blast. Again, self-fulfilling prophecy. If you are convinced it will be too hard, it will be.

I totally get it. Unfortunately, others don't! Can you compromise and go to Disney every other year?

I hate when I tell people I'm going to Disney and they say 'Again?' I don't question your vacation destinations; why question mine?

Well, you might have rethought that if you'd had MY 3-year-old. But I'm glad you guys had a good time!

I love Europe. My particular child won't be ready for it until he's a bit older. And most folks probably don't have the vacation budget for Spain...that would be a couple years of vacationing budget in our household.

I think people have a crazy view on European vacations. LOL. People in Europe have 2 & 3 year olds too ya know.

My sons have been going to Portugal since they were babies, now I admit it's easier for me because my inlaws are from Lisbon but we don't crash with them when we go. It's dh and mines vacation also. we do hotels, restaurants etc etc.
It's our vacation, we pick "child friendly" activities and places.

Paris is a wonderful place to go with kids. Most restaurants are ridiculously child friendly and every museum from the louvre to D'orsay has child activities. European transportation is 1000X's better than here in the states so getting around is easy and it a pinch there is DLP.

totally agree with the budget thing though. airfare to Europe is enough to make you :scared1:

Just don't write off other places because you think disney is the only "child friendly" spot on the planet. Any tourist destination that wants to stay in business has definitely made some arrangements to be family friendly.

Paris is also about extravagant dining experiences which are hard to do with a 2 year old!

You really think that? I just got back from Paris about 2 weeks ago. Nothing etravagant about it. Every single solitary block has row after row of Brassiers, which are sort of outdoor cafe's that are extrodianarily wonderful for children.

Now Europeans are not like us where they rush through their meals. a dinner in Paris can easily run 2-3 hours long. Parisians love just sitting at their tables and people gazing. So some times a kid may get antsy but thats about it.

Sounds like some constructive problem solving with a compromise that is realistically based on your resources is in order.

If you don't come up with a win/win solution it will never be truly resolved.

Depends on one's priorities for a trip.. food is always towards the top of my list for any trip I go on. The wife and I like getting dressed up occasionally for those meals that take 2-3 hours. Paris is the dining capital of the world, I think it'd be kind of silly not to endulge a bit. The last thing I want is for my kid to be screaming that they're tired while I'm trying to eat my crepe.

You've never been to Paris, have you?

The best meals I ever had there were the simplest ones.

Of course I have and I prefer the multiple course meals when I'm there. Do you have something against people who like to go all out for meals?

A vacation can be ANYWHERE that you make great memories with you child and you husband. Sounds to me like Disney if more for your memories than theirs. Try somewhere new, you both make the money and you should both have a say so in how it is spent.

Any trip with a toddler is for your memories rather than theirs, because they won't remember those trips in the long run.

And there are a lot of places that really aren't fun with a toddler. We travel a lot with our kids from infancy and I've BTDT through 3 of them - traveling with a toddler means one of the adults will have to sit out certain experiences, and it means being flexible because odds are said toddler will get bored, loud, and/or fidgety at inappropriate times requiring one adult stop what they are doing to take the child somewhere to run off some steam (or conversely, to settle down enough to nap). That's not a complaint, it is simple fact.

To add to that, it's more likely that kids won't complain about boredom in Disney, why would they? Where as while you're trying to study the Mona Lisa, I could see a 2 year old start to go nuts.

But that can be said for any place including disney. which is why Victoria and alberts doesn't allow children (or rather discourages them). Sure you can find tons of places in paris that are upscale and fancier but there are also a zillion places to get a gastronomic feast that are child friendly places.

This was a crazy park near the louvre that was popular with kids. I took some pictures here because it's also a place that is popular with bridal parties.

Another place that served fantastic food and reputed to serve the best ice cream in town. this was near Notre Dame.

This Brassiere served absolutely great food, it was down the street from the Eiffel tower. packed with kids.

Folks, take your kids to Europe, you will be surprised how even little kids will have a ball.

I think people have a crazy view on European vacations. LOL. People in Europe have 2 & 3 year olds too ya know.

Well, I think people here have that idea simply because for most Americans visiting Europe it is a once in a lifetime trip. For us to do a European vacation will take at least an entire year's travel budget (which now covers Disney plus 3-4 smaller driving trips per year) and probably closer to two years' worth. For that much coin we don't want to be going at toddler pace, avoiding fine dining, or hustling out of the Louvre because the baby is bored!

Besides, unlike Disney where I know we'll be going back many times and couldn't care less if the kids remember each and every trip, I do want them to be big enough to remember going to Europe (and Hawaii, and Costa Rica) because those are places we're probably only going to go once as a family. DH & I might return as empty nesters but as a family of five those aren't trips we plan to repeat.

Stop it! Stop destroying the illusion that Disney is the only place kids can have fun!

Sheesh. You have to wonder what all those Parisian kids do since there clearly is nothing to do for them in the entire country.

I also contend that someone whose kids are bored didn't do proper planning.
