The explanation to this is in the word "current". Think of it this way, a local retailer advertises item "x" one week with buy one and get one 1/2 off. Two weeks later, that same retailer advertises the same item "x", however this time the "current" offer is for 20% off. The offer you got on item "x" depends on which week you purchased it.
The same is true with the Developer Points. Whatever the "current" incentive to buy.....when you purchase.....is what you would get. Some people had Developer Points that could be used at any
DVC, and apparently others had restrictions as to where they could be used.
We purchased on January 30, 2008. Our DP's could be used at any DVC Resort. However, they expired 1 year from the date of that contract, so we knew we had to use them before January 30, 2009. It was also explained to us that the reservations, using these points, couldn't be made any farther out than 7 months. The reason for that is the DP's don't carry a Home Resort, so they can't be used within the 7 mo to 11 mo time frame that is referred to as "The Home Resort Advantage." Yes, you're receiving these DP's for purchasing at AKV, but they are not to be considered AKV points that carry that "Home Resort Advantage" when making reservations.
Hope this helps explain why there are so many different posts about DP's. Don't let that sway you from your purchase. You will get whatever the "current" incentive to buy is.
