~~~~~~~I know there are instructions for door signs in another thread (or maybe even earlier in this one) but I'm too lazy (and swamped!) to hunt for them... could someone post here directions - such as what I need to buy at the (what kind of) store, etc. to have the right materials before making my design? Thanks!!! (mwha - mwha -- that's big kisses!!!)~~~~~~
Hey Cindy! I made our signs very easy. Some people spend alot of time on theirs but we made simple ones. All you need is magnetic paper, clipart and a printer. I bought a 6 pack of magnetic paper at Walmart (Target, CVS, Walgreens, Staples, Best Buy, etc carry the same paper). I went and did a search under www.google.com for disney clipart and found alot of sites. Picked out the ones we liked and saved them. I then went under Microsoft Word (you can use and printshop program also, I just couldn't find my disc). I entered in all my text and then copy and pasted my pictures on. I then printed and saved all my signs. Once I knew what pictures we wanted it took y maybe 5 minutes to do them. Picking out the picuters was the hardest part, LOL
Here are some sites I found:
If you need more help email me and I will do my best!! Have fun
Tami - Thanks for the info / instructions for the door signs.
And welcome to those of you joining us! I have an 8 y.o. and 9 1/2 y.o. - both boys - sailing with us. I got them registered at the Lab yesterday, and I had them try on their Pirate costumes last night ... too cute!
So who has booked Palo's or Spa treatments or Excursions? I was looking at them -- do we pay up front or later?
I boooked all my Palo reservations and shore excursion. They will be charged to your on board account. No need to pay up front.
I am only interested in a Palo afternoon tea for our cruise. By the time I went online on the 75th day preceeding the cruise, only dinner reservations were available. :( I assume they'll have more space available for booking onboard.
Mike - thanks for the info about payment. I was looking to book a massage, too, but the times are not conducive for me - maybe something better will be available on the ship.
In other news, I know what I want to do (similarly) for my Pirate Night costume... I wanna be like Minnie if i can figure out how to post this picture.
Here's the link to the DCL picture of the Day...
Apparently, they hold back a lot of reservations for on ship booking. I booked at 90 days since we are CC members. I wanted to change my Palo dinner, the only way to do it is to cancel and then rebook online, DCL advised not to do this as you may lose what you have and to try and change the time once on board.
There was only one brunch reservation left and that was on Sunday Key West day as well. I booked it but I think I will have to try and change it to another day. Is it offered on Thursday as well?
If you decide not to keep the one for Sunday that is when we wanted to go to brunch at Palo's...
Howdy everyone,
We had a fantastic cruise! It did rain for the sail away party, so they had it in the atrium. People had a good time, but it wasnt as good as the actual deck party. It was crowded and hot, people on all 3 decks watching so it was really hot. But that was the only real rain we had. It only lasted about an hour, but it really dumped hard a couple of times. We had kind of rough seas too, only 12 foot swells. But that was enough to get some people sick. Luckily we have never been bothered by the movement, so it was great for us.
This trip was extra special since the duo in the prominade lounge was Don and Tommie. We had cruised with them before and we really connected with them and their style of music. So we were thrilled they were there again. As we sat down right in the middle of a song they both recognized us with a big wink and smile. As soon as the song was done they welcomed us and chatted a little before continuing to play. Then when they were done, they came right over and sat down with us and visited. They remembered most of the songs we loved and they played them everytime we showed for a show. They always announced this song is for our friends Greg and kathy and pointed to us. They are very talented and very down to earth type people. They came and visited with us at the pool, on castaway cay and all over the ship. We forgot our cam corder and I commented I wished I'd brought it so I could of recorded them to have at home to watch. They brought their own cam corder to the next show and had us use it to record them, and they talked a lot to us on the tape to make it more personal for us, sang all our favorite songs and Tommie came over and got me up to sing and dance with her with one of my favorite numbers. That was hillarious, since I have NO rhythm and luckily she kept the mike away from my mouth as I cant sing either!!!! They are going to make us a copy and send it to us soon. They also introduced us to the drummer of the house band and he was as nice as they were. He was always running into us and talking music with us, inviting us to their shows and acknowledging us when we did go. At their show my husband and I even got in a conga line that went around the family pool. That was a first! My Dh is a watcher, not a doer with dancing. So am I most of the time. But it was just a wonderful time for us both. We felt very special because everytime we turned around some entertainer was talking to us both on and off stage. People were begining to wonder who we were, I think. We were also introduced to the lead singer, Eddie in the pool band, and he visited with us too. He was a very nice man.
We didnt do any excursions in Nassau, since we have done everything there that we ever wanted to do on other trips. We strolled around and shopped some in the straw market. It was cloudy, but very warm.
Castaway Cay was the same, cloudy, but hot with a good breeze. The seas were rough enough they cancelled the parasailing, glass bottom boat, deep sea fishing. So I'm sure some people were unhappy with that. But everything else was up and running and lots of fun. We hiked as far as you can go to the other side of the island and back, just in time for lunch.
The pirate party was awesome, but I was dissapointed that not very many people dressed up. But I have heard that for some reason people on the shorter cruises just dont particiapte as much in their dress. But it was still fun and we did go to the Little Matey's pirate party before dinner to watch the little kids dressed as pirates get to dance on stage. They had a ball and were so cute to watch. Each one received a piece of pirate gold for going to the party.
We sat at a large table with 2 families of three, so there were 8 of us. They were very nice people, however one lady did get sea sick and left the first night, but was better the next 2 nights. Our wait staff an dfood was excellant. The new staggered dining ties really made service a lot faster, so dinner didnt take 2 hours to get through. that was nice.
The only bad part of the entire trip was having to get OFF the ship at Port Canaveral to come home again.
But knowing we are going again soon really helped.
Looking forward to seeing everyone in about 2 months.
Kathy
Hi Kathy:
I am so glad to hear you and your DH had a very special trip. It is nice when things are more personalized and to get to record a show like that for you to have at home will be just great. I watched the web cam at Port Canaveral the day you left but only saw the other cruise ship. Didn't get to watch you arrive back home though because our Internet has been down. Just got it working again today so hopefully it stays that way.
It is two months today until we leave for our vacation. I am getting so excited about it.
Take care and come back down to Earth for awhile now that you are home again. It was great to hear about your cruise. Thank you for the update.
We'll be there with 30 of our family and friends and all you Disers! :banana:
This is our 3rd DC with many more to come. :earsboy:
I just can't wait to set sail! :disrocks:
Mom
Stop, you're embarassing me! Really, how many times have you cruised now? Pretty cool that they all reconized you and stuff. Before we go cruising with you next time I think you should let these guys know what your new favorite songs are.....I'll send you a list with lyrics and sheet music in the next couple of days :-) Wow!, GrowingUpDisney--30 people! I thought that a lot of us were going! It's a blast when you are blessed enought a have a large group from your family go on vacation together. couple quick Q's:
1. are these door signs that I keep reading about large magnets of Disney characters with your family name on them? or maybe I misunderstand--happens often.
2. Are there a lot of repeat cruisers here?
3. A lot of first time cruisers?
4. Has anybody else here sailed with special-needs children?
Don't mean to ask so many questions, I just want to get to know some of you before we sail.
Guess it's only fair if I answer first:
1. Honestly, I have no idea,
2. I am a 2nd time cruiser,
3. see above question,
4. I have two
Kathy - Welcome back!
Rachel - this is our first cruise.
Welcome, Growing_Up_Disney and your traveling party!
I made reservations for Stingray City tour at Grand Cayman, and I also scheduled a massage for that same afternoon. Trying now to decide about a pedicure :)
Please read this thread discussing "formal night" attire on DCL ships and my comments. I thought I'd check in here since we'll be cruising with you all. Are you planning to dress up for the formal night?
Scotch,
My wife and I are doing it up all the way, I'm looking into a tux rental, so you DEFINITELY won't be out of place - unless you aren't eating with us :earboy2: ! But I'm looking forward to dressing up. I believe the rental company discussed in the Magical Disney Cruise Line Guide allows you the use of the tux for the entire cruise. We're eating at Palo for Semi-Formal, should look nice.
Hi Scotch,
We have never dressed formal on formal night. My DH wears slacks, long sleeve shirt with a disney tie. I wear a regular dress and sandals. We have always felt comfortable with that, even at Lumiere's. On formal night you see everything from tropical shirts to full length gowns. Last week when we went on the Wonder I would say about 25% were dressed extra nice, another 25% dressed like we usually do and the rest were a hodge podge of dockers, slacks, pull over mens short sleeve shirts, tropical shirts and dresses. I think it up to each person what they feel comfortable with doing. If you like to dress extra nice, then go for it, if not, don't do it.
At Palo's I would say dress nicer. But I have never seen a Tux at any function on board. I know they rent them, but I've never seen one in 8 DCL cruises. That's my 2 cents worth.
