Any word or any prep work being done for new DVC cabins?

I would have to see in person, but I think Disney could have done so much better in their theming- especially at that price point. We have stayed in some really cool AirBnB cabins that were very modern inside, but still felt like a rustic cabin in the woods. They incorporated natural wood shiplap with modern furniture and brought it all together well.

The cabins in Broken Bow would have been a fantastic idea for theming that felt right in a place called Fort Wilderness. And some of them sleep 13 for the price per night of these DVC boxes.

Those feel like an apartment in the city with some Disney art slapped up on the walls.
Very cheap. I am still not impressed.

I’ve started seeing them on the dvc rental store already which surprises me a bit

RIGHT! So DVC folks can book them now. Cash stays are available starting Sept. 27. You have to be sure you select the right category when booking because there is a category for the new cabins and a category for the old.

I have a new one booked for the first week of November!
Yeah we're coming in on the 3rd of September so before the date we can book them for cash. Who knows maybe we'll be able to get in one. I mean I have looked at the DVC as an option but not likely that I would actually purchase it . That said I wouldn't mind the new one if they offered it. I'd be surprised if they're full of DVC that very first week of September since they're just opening them now

They are charging about $30 more a night and they seem to be really strict about it so I wouldn't get your hopes up. Disney really does stick to the "you get what you booked" rule majority of the time.

Wanted to give a final update for everybody.

The horse barn smell. It was actual feces on the backside of the toilet and on the toilet paper holder in the cabin. That was wonderful. Told management and all they did was send somebody to replace the toilet paper holder.

As I mentioned the cabins are rough. There is no effort being put into them to maintain them since new ones are here now. I get it but at the same time, if you're still paying the full price for a stay then you'd want the full, clean experience.

Outside of the cabin issues, our vacation was great. Two full weeks of fun. Tried lots of new things and did lots of old favorites.

I did the DVC tour. It was about 30 mins long, I initially did it just to see the new cabins but it turned out to be very informational. I don't really think DVC is for me however I understand it a lot more now. As for the cabin itself. I was very disappointed when they first announced the new cabins. I said there was no wilderness feel to them and I still stand by that statement. However, after constantly driving past them for 2 weeks and finally going inside one, they aren't that bad. Certainly not a fan of the grey walls and cabinets, and the bathroom being opposite of the bedroom, but there are a lot of improvements. The bathroom itself is awesome. Two sinks, a walk in shower, and it feels bigger than the current one (which already feels big). The kitchen is nicer with a full range and a pull out garbage can thing. The living room is awkward with the TV being where it is but I don't know where else they could've put it. The couch is just like every other Disney resort murphy bed couch. The chair is very nice compared to the current one. The dining chairs are also better. The murphy bed is a big improvement over the current pull out bed. The bedroom is great. The bed not being against the wall is the biggest improvement in the whole cabin. The bunks are nice and the decor is very cute. One thing I don't like is lack of storage space. If you're staying a week or more there is only enough storage in the bedroom for 2 maybe 3 people, and nothing else in the living room. Six people would have a horrible time with clothing storage, and there's not many places to lay a suitcase either.

Overall I think the functionality of the new cabins is a slight improvement over the current, but the theming is a huge downgrade. I did get a $200 Disney gift card for doing the tour, that was very nice.

I'm still gonna come back. Probably sooner rather than later. It actually flew by so fast! We did everything we had planned on but there were multiple little things like walking the dog walk area and looking for old train tracks that we just didn't have time to do which was wild.

So according to the timeline earlier in this thread it looks like all original cabin loops should now be closed or converted except for loop 2700- (also, according to google maps, it looks like some of the loop names in the cabin area may have been changed?)

Anyone have some free time and an inclination to head over to the cabin loops to confirm?
I check in on Sunday and can report back if someone doesn't beat me to it.

Here now and checked it out yesterday.

2200 fully converted
2300 fully converted
2400 under conversion (about half sites have new cabins and decks underway and other half empty or under cabin construction)
2500 fully converted
2600 some legacy cabins removed, piles of debris from legacy decks, steps, and coverings (it's like a mini tornado zone). No new cabins yet
2700 legacy cabin loop still operating during Halloween
2800 under conversion (cabins within view of the main road are new DVC)

Pics:

2400 finished cabins need decks

2400 cabins under construction

2600 some legacy cabins left with debris

2600 cabins removed with debris

2700 legacy cabins still operating.

There is a better angle to see the debris/no cabins in 2600 which I'll get maybe tomorrow.

I had no idea legacy cabins were still in operation concurrent with the new DVC cabins. I figured it was all DVC now.

IIRC the original press release said the plan was they would be done sometime in 2025 and it would be a mixture of new and old for the majority of the construction. Might have said by the summer.

Makes sense that either the 2800 or 2700 loops were the last of the original to remain open as they are the two biggest loops in terms of number of cabins.

We saw three old cabins being hauled Wednesday and Thursday. I wasn't able to grab my phone quickly enough to take pictures. Very strange to see them rolling away!

A better/good look at one half of 2600 loop that looks like this temporarily.

The other half has new cabins started with just the floor section in place.

If you make a DVC reservation for Cabins at Fort Wilderness, is it automatically a new cabin? Or could it be a legacy one?

The last remaining legacy cabins will be taken out of service before the end of 2024 (end of November or so?) to begin the conversion process.

So if you book anything thru DVC, you will get a new DVC cabin. Legacy cabins get booked thru the hotel/resort system for a little longer only.

NOTE: I apologize for my opinion . . .

1. I think adding DVC to The Fort will ruin the atmosphere and "feeling" of the resort.
. . . campers and RVers are a different type of people
. . . typically, DVCers are just vacationers
2. I have worked at DVC, Deluxe Resorts, and Fort Wilderness as a Concierge
. . . DVC - Key West ("OKW") & Saratoga Springs ("SSR")
. . . Resorts - Wilderness Lodge ("The Lodge") & Grand Floridian ("The Grand")
. . . Campground - Fort Wilderness (my most favorite resort due to both employees and guests)
3. At The Fort,
. . . folks say "hello" as you pass, and mean it
. . . folks will easily and frequently join in conversation with strangers
. . . if lost or have questions, their is ALWAYS someone who is (overly) willing to help
4. At resorts and DVC
. . . people pass each other and seldom even wave or nod their head
. . . if you try to engage them, you get a look of astonishment

I firmly believe that the general feeling of comradery at The Fort will wain.
Sure, great for the pocket books of Disney, but bad for the guest experience.
I am not looking forward to the implementation of a Fort DVC.
