I was in WDW in November and heard/seen several rumors that Journey Into Imagination with Figment would be closing by January 31 for a refurbishment. Does anyone have an update on the status?:figment::figment:

no closing a have been reporter since the rumors last year. If they were to close the imagination pavilion that would have been told by now.

Agree...major renovations are almost always started on or just after jan 02...

I've heard the closure is on hold....but no further details than that :confused3

I think they'll probably do an entire change with a new movie and a new ride, but that all depends on sponsorship or if Disney actually decides to spend money on something.

Doubt we will ever see the original again, but an updated reimagined Journey with Dreamfinder and Figment would be a breath of fresh air.

I hope they don't replace Figment altogether. I do hope if they are closing, that they will bring back dreamfinder and figment together. Figment has been my favorite since i was small... I will be devastated if he does "disappear". :sad1:

I will be down Feb 4 - 14 and that will be my question to see if anyone working in the store there knows or has updates. Would be great if they could bring back Dreamfinder with Figment in any way!

Hoping someone at or going soon could do me a favor. Could you take some pictures of the gift shop. My DH went when he was younger and remembers a cool sounding cup. I am starting to plan our next trip and would love to see what kind of figment goodies we could bring home with us.

Thanks bunches,
Sil

Figment is one of my favorites -- happy to take photos when I'm there the first week of June!

As long as Figment is around in some incarnation, I'll be happy! :goodvibes

Agreed!

I was so disappointed in myself when I was there for a weekend of F&W festival that me and my SO didn't make it into the Imagination Pavilion (we did however get our passport complete in 2 days!). I hope hope hope hope it is still there in December. I want to introduce SO to Figment, silly Figment. And I want to get a Figment plush to hang out as we travel around the world.

We love Figment, especially my nephew, and we'd be really upset if they closed it! It's one thing to refurbish, another to replace; hoping it'll just be refurbished. :confused3

Unfortunately for me, simply having Figment "present" just isn't enough. He wasn't even part of the "new" ride when it was first introduced, and was later added back in as a complete afterthought in a feeble attempt to appease those of us who were outraged at what the ride had become. To me, this was more of a slap in the face than the intended olive branch peace-offering that Disney intended it to be. Simply throwing a character into that steam-pile of a ride did nothing to overcome the fact that the attraction simply stinks and was a far cry from the original (perhaps the understatement of the century).

I've never seen this attraction with more than a 5 minute wait (more times than not, it's a walk-on). Meanwhile, Soarin' and Test Track have 2 hour plus standing lines consistently. I can't wait for the day that Disney decides to level this trainwreck and put something truly good in its place. It's taking up valuable Future World realestate, and having a third (fourth if you count Mission Space) signature attraction might help to balance out the heavy traffic always found at Soarin' / TT.

This is coming from a kid who's favorite childhood memorabilia included a purple Figment hat w/ horns, a large Figment stuffed animal that stayed on my bed for longer than I should willingly admit, and countless other Figment-related trinkets, and I still say blow the sucker up (figuratively, not literally) because I know that bringing back the original is simply never going to be an option.

There's no reason why Figment (and Dreamfinder) couldn't be featured in a signature attraction. Ironically, the problem isn't with the characters, it's with the lack of imagination.

As for Mission Space, in our eyes that one is a mess. I would give anything if the original attraction was still there in some form.

I don't necessarily disagree with you. However, basing this on past attractions that have come and gone, I don't see Disney giving Figment and his jolly friend a third chance with yet another retread of the same thing. If and when they decide to pull the pin on this attraction, I suspect we'd see something totally different. That's just my educated guess, and once again, this is coming from someone who loves Figment and pines for one last ride on the original. Unfortunately for Disney Imaginering, it appears that their "Idea Bag is full" :confused3

I wouldn't call MS a total mess. It has it's following and I appreciate it for what it is, but again, I agree with you - It's no Horizons.

I, like many people, got attached to Figment when I was really young back in the 80s. I think there is potential to create a signature attraction themed around Figment, the problem is, I don't believe WDW would be willing to do it. He's really just a park mascot, not a franchise character they can easily monetize beyond park merchandise.

I actually got a little depressed when I walked into One Man's Dream Walt Disney display at Hollywood Studios, and saw one of the original Figments behind museum glass.
