We have a good group of walkers that post on the Events and Competition section. I was wondering if there were any other walkers over here on the main WISH section.

Walking and running are completely different sports, but they are both good healthy sports, hobbies and ways to get your exercise for a healthier lifestyle. Walking is a great way to build strength if your goal is to move up to running or to run/walking. But walking doesn't have to be a stepping stone to running, it's a wonderfull sport all it's on.

In many ways walking is better for you than running. There isn't the pounding on your joints like running. Running is lifting your knees and landing with a lot of force, walking is more glide. Walkers do take longer to complete a distance than most runners, and training takes more time out of your schedule. When you walk at speed or distance or both you do still get sore and there are injuryies.

The walking stride starts at your (butt, lower back and abs) core and uses more of your whole leg. When you start out doing speed and distance you will need to keep up a good stretching routine. I learned this the hard way by spending all my time walk training and not paying my dues with the stretching.

Since a walker doesn't have the bouncing and pounding, you can eat soon before you walk without the stomach problems a runner usually gets if they do more than nibble. Even racing I eat a good breakfast an hour or two before a race. When my pretty princess and I do our LSD days we start with a good breakfast.

A good shoe fitted to you is every bit as important to a walker as it is to a runner. If you do marathons like Erica and I you are doing training and race days that are many hours long. Spending the time to get the right shoes is time well spent.

I truely believe that walking is going to be THE sport for this millinium just as running was for the last couple of decades. We civilized people are going to have to start leading a healthier lifestyle or we are going to let the good life destroy us.

Ok now y'all know I'm a big fan of walking. I love walking, training and racing. Like everyone on the WISH I'm on a quest to feel good in my skin and to be the best and healthest person I can be.

Anyone else on this section a fan of walking for exercise and health. How about walking races?

Or if you think someone should just shoot the panda and make a rug, that's ok to. I tend to get motor mouth when talking about my passions.
