I'm vegetarian and have eaten at San Angel Inn twice (the second time on Christmas Day 2005!). The setting and service were absolutely SUPERB both times. In fact, on Christmas Day, my DH asked the cast member who was checking people in, "I know this is probably a silly questions because you are so busy, but is there anyway we could have a table next to the river? We sat there once before and really loved it. We would be willing to wait for it, but we understand if it's just not possible."
The cast member seemed very pleased to be able to grant our request and wished us Merry Christmas, with a big smile, several times when we were thanking him profusely. What a wonderful time we had! The server was also a delight, and took a couple of pictures of us with our camera at our request.
OK, the food: there is a separate vegetarian menu with 2 items on it. I had the combination platter both times. (I think the other item on the menu was a salad, if I remember correctly.) The first time, I thought it was very good. The second time, it wasn't very hot and I thought it was just OK. Worth every penny, though, for the experience of sitting by the River of Time on Christmas Day!
