Any unsafe exits off 95 I should avoid?

I'll be driving down alone with my kids on a Sunday. We're going to leave PA around 2am and I drive straight through. Hoping to arrive in time for dinner at our resort. I remember reading posts about exits that aren't safe. I drove down in February, but my mom was with me then. I felt fine since I had another adult with me. So, are there any exits I should avoid? We don't go to rest stops. We only use bathroom at gas stations.

I'm not sure about unsafe exits, but if you see an exit w/ a major hotel chain, I would stop at the hotel to use the bathrooms if its still early morning.

Last year driving down 95, I told my wife if she needs a bathroom, wait until there is a Cracker Barrel. :)

I go to McDonald's for bathrooms if I'm alone. I won't use gas station restrooms, there's no reason to. Most exits on I-95 are safe as most have hotels, fast food places, etc and even rest stops are monitored. Leaving at 2am, you probably won't stop before daylight so you should be okay anywhere along I-95 that you stop. Just use common sense.

Don't stop at South of the Border. That place scared me during the daytime.:scared1:

If your leaving at 2am, you'll only have a few hours before daylight. Any of the rest stops off 95 between Philly and Baltimore are the large, heavily traveled variety with lots of people- even in the wee hours. I would hit those if needed before daybreak, and not take your chances off highway as your headed thru the major metro areas. Once suns up, I prefer to hit the rest areas, which are very nice, and very busy! I've driven NJ to FL alone with my kiddos and understand the reasoning, but I'd take a brightly lit, populated rest stop over an unfamiliar, filthy gas station any day! I've never felt unsafe at a rest stop. We often leave NJ around the same time, and the Harbor House is a great rest stop to grab fresh coffee and stretch your legs before hitting the balti/DC metro areas. I never stop between those cities - mostly because I'm trying to beat traffic on the beltway! Safe travels!! :)

The Md. House rest area around the 81 mile marker on 95 is closed (rebuilding) and I would avoid almost any exit in the major cities. There is another rest area, just restrooms, around mile marker 37.

You can also check out i95exitguide.com. It tells you what's at each exit (food, gas, hotels etc) which may help with your planning. :)
