Any truth to this? certain bags flagged at security checkpoint?

I got stopped every day last trip until a security officer finally told me that my sunglass case has a little metal in the hinges, so now I carry a cloth one!

It's actually the metal that reinforces the shell of the case, not the hinges. (Not that it matters, its annoying either way and I'm glad you've found an alternative.)

I'm a 71 year old grandma who needs an ECV...hardly your typical threat! I used to carry a tank of oxygen in case my portable oxygen battery ran out. I can't go through the metal detector, but my bag got flagged EVERY DARN TIME! Turns out that the regulator for the tank which was in my purse) looked awfully similar to any number of dangerous items. Bought a tiny battery operated power source and haven't had that problem since.

I never have a bag with me and I still get dinged about 50% of the time. All i carry with my is my wallet keys and phone. I now always hold my keys and phone out.

My wife, 8 year old granddaughter and just returned from a trip to WDW. Being the group pack mule, carried a backpack containing battery chargers, an umbrella, metal water bottle and portable neck fans. I expected to be sent to secondary search every time and did. My granddaughter carried a small Loungefly backpack with a few stuffed and was never pulled aside.

The last day was a non park day, but we scheduled breakfast at Ohana's. I didn't bring my backpack with me this time so I thought I was in the clear. Heading through security on the monorail while leaving the the Polynesian I happened to be carrying that Loungefly. "Please step over there, sir."

The security guy and I had a good laugh as he emptied the backpack of a pile of nonmetal stuffed animals.
