Any truth to BWV mold/mildew rumors?

Just when we thought we'd finally decided where to stay, the plot thickens once again.

Having stayed at BCV and SSR, we thought we'd give BWV a try. But I've been scouring the online reviews and keep coming across mentions of mold. We have some allergy sufferers in the family, and this could really make things uncomfortable for them. Has anyone run into this problem?

Also (and this is not that big of a deal): several posts mention unusually rude front desk workers. What's up with that? I was also a little disappointed to find out that BW doesn't have the kids' TV area; silly, I suppose, but it's sort of a tradition for them to hang out there while we do business at the front desk.

Do you really have to go outside the hotel to refill your mugs? Is that as big of a problem as one reviewer said it was?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I really like the idea of trying out all the resorts, but I sure don't want to wish we were somewhere else the whole time.

We have checked in to BWV at least 6 or 7 times. Only once did we encounter a very rude CM...at the Registration desk. Actually, he was beyond rude; more like insulting, loud, and obnoxious! All the other times, we were treated courteously, and with efficiency.

We, also, have some family members sensitive to mold, with allergies, or asthma, but never once have we had mold or mildew in our rooms. In fact, we never had housekeeping problems..well, once, but a call to housekeeping resolved that immediately!

I love BWV and the surrounding area. There are lots of fun and interesting things to do and see. Things that the entire family will enjoy.:goodvibes

We have not run into this issue in our stays at BWV. And my daughter has pretty severe allergies so we'd know if that was a problem quickly!

We also haven't had one issue with a rude CM at the check-ins...just the opposite in fact.

Keep in mind that when you say you have read room reports or threads, people usually don't talk about the wonderful things. It's human nature to point out the less than magical aspects. And when people do post positive things with no problems, those threads disappear quickly because they don't lend themselves to a discussion.

Same with the room reports. People are anxious to file reports when things are bad. They are much less inclined when the room was satisfactory.

So take it all with a grain of salt, and don't stress out about that sort of thing. If your room has mold, bring it to the attention of housekeeping. If they don't remedy it quickly, ask for a room re-assignment...perfectly legitimate if the room is in poor condition. But my guess is you'll have nice CM's checking you in and a room in good condition. :)

We don't do refillable mugs since there is a refrigerator in the room and it's easier just to keep soft drinks and such there. So I can't speak to that question but I wouldn't think that refillable mugs would be very convenient at BWV.

I would be very surprised if that were the case. Anyone can have a bad experience at any resort, but the odds are very much in your favor of having a wonderful trip at a first class resort. :)

Thank you so much, everyone, for your input. Granny, of course you're right about the review business and how the negatives get more attention. And here I go perpetuating the whole thing.

Good to hear that the mold seems to be a non-issue. We'll be celebrating my dad's 60th while we're there and I'd hate for him to be miserable. He also likes the whole concept of refillable mugs, but I think he'd actually be quite happy to wander out to the boardwalk and refill his mug.

Sounds like the problems I mentioned are non-issues or can easily be dealt with. On with the vacation planning.....

You can refill at the bakery on the Boardwalk, the Bellview lounge (coffee in the am) and Leaping Horse Libations at the pool . I believe Boardwalk Joes also refills coffee.

We've stayed there twice--once on the Inn side and once (last Sept) in a studio. No sign of mold. In fact--our standard view studio was so immaculate, we didn't want to switch over to BCV. We love BWV! I don't think the refillable mugs are any more inconvenient then, say, BCV and the 4 mile lug to the gift shop or Hurricane Hannah's. I suppose if you were running down from your room to fill and then back, that may be a little bit of a hike. At that point, I might be more inclined to use our refrigerator for soda. But if you were at the pool or on your way to the parks, it's no big deal.

Have a great time!

Just got back from there and no mold problems for us! Also, I thought the front desk staff was outstanding and more than willing to help with whatever needs we had.:thumbsup2

We were at the BW in January and didn't have any mold/mildew problems. Our room did have maintanence problems - not bit - but we did call maintanence and even told the front desk when we checked out. It didn't ruin our stay at all.

We didn't have a rude front desk person either, bell services was not totally on the ball but mistakes happen. There were a lot of new people "earning their ears" behind the desk when we were checking in.

Never noticed any Mold problems but several stays I have noticed a musty smell in the room which I attributed to the airconditioning. Both times it was in a room in the wing that I would label as the Boardwalk Wing as opposed to the Parking Lot/Driveway Wing. However my last stay at OKW the Carpet was totally flooded by the front door. It never dried out the whole time we were there.

We are BW owners and have been there several times. I have NEVER encountered a CM with a poor or rude attitude. Just the opposite, I have always had great service, happy attitudes, very friendly. I even had a CM at the bus stop once go out of his way to get in touch with a restaurant to tell my party waiting for me that I was running late and when I would be expected due to the bus timing. I love the CM's at BW.

As far as mold, only once did I notice some mold on the grout in the bathroom on the bottom of the shower tiles (just a couple of tiles). I called mousekeeping and they came and cleaned it for me. From now on, though I will take some tilex with me because even just a little skeeves me. It was certainly no big deal, and my husband (allergies) didn't even notice. Mousekeeping was prompt and efficient in cleaning it off and that was the end of that.

You can get refills at the Bakery, the coffee stand, the lounge (on the inn side, just off the lobby) and the pool. My DH usually hooks the mug on his belt and when we are walking around the boardwalk he'll refill here and there. If we eat lunch at the pool snack bar (good sandwiches!), it comes in handy there, and every morning when we get breakfast at the bakery we fill them with coffee. Not so inconvenient when you are at or close to those places throughout the day anyway.

The BW is a great location, our favorite. Lots going on a night, Jellyrolls is awesome, ESPN Zone is fun and we like the good salads and appetizers. The boat will take you just across the lake to Y&BC, which has Beaches and Cream - good burgers & ice cream, or you can walk around the lake. Most people prefer the pool at Y&BC - Stormalong Bay - but we prefer the pool at BW, awesome slide. Stormalong Bay is a great mini water park for the little ones, but with older kids we are out of the stage of tons of little ones running around. I usually hang by the quiet pool while my teens hang by the big pool and snack bar. The atmosphere is wonderful and transportation (boat or walking) to Epcot and MGM make it a great location.

Give it a try, I doubt you'll be disappointed. Good luck with your decision and have a great vacation.

we stayed there last summer for almost 2 weeks and had no problems with mold ! My daughter actually uses an inhaler every night for slight asthma and she was great-she is normally very quick to react to any sort of mold.
I actually really loved the feeling of the BW and have thought about adding on points there. But-I figure before I do another add-on I should stay at them all to see if there is another one I want! But-back to the point of the story-it is a wonderful resort, the pool is great, and you are going to have a blast!!!

Just returned from BWV yesterday....

CM's were very polite. although they were training one on my check-in. She took a looonnnngggggg time. But I was patient. She was very sweet and nervous. Check-in took over 1/2 hour!!!

CM's all very polite as usual.

Mold: No mold in rooms (we had two) However, the complaints are probably from the "musty smell" in the hallways. The rooms smelled "normal". The hallways had this "basement-like" smell. Who knows why! also, they were pressure washing the face of the villas and inn. Mold/moss on siding is pretty normal in spring (esp near water). I wash my house once a year too.

have fun!
