thank you CathrynRose!CathrynRose said:I didnt find it offensive - and both my boys are latino/hispanic/Puerto Rican and neither one of them can speak Spanish or anything else, for that matter.
Good Grief. This isnt a debate board nor is it a "correct my un-PC-ness" board.
I had no idea I was expected to present a string of labels for my ethnic extraction ID

And no, I do not wish to be nasty or not be understanding, but take a breath AllyCatTapia~
Some of my cousins find Latina to be Euro-centric(spelling?) & offensive & do not use it at all, but DSis & I grew up with it, we use it.
Actually, AllyCatTapia, you may call yourself what you please, it is no business of mine.
Where I live, 'Hispanic' is a term with which the overwhelming majority of people here are familiar. As you may, or may not know, that label, as well as others, mean different things to different people. There are sometimes different meanings from Latin country to Latin country & yet again, those same labels, go in & out of favor in, often, a short period of time. I am no 'spring chicken' but how many times, for instance, has the term chicana been received differently in just the past 30 years?
Is 'Hispanic' the only term I use to refer to myself & children by?
Most definately not. I use 'Christian', 'mother', 'woman', 'wife', 'daughter', 'American' 'Latina' and on...
Anyway, sorry for the 'off topic' everyone! I did feel as if I had to respond
