Any tips on how to get used to walking at WDW???

This is what I am doing to get ready for our next trip (it is a long ways off so I should be ready :thumbsup2 )

1. lose weight
2. Bought a treadmill and walking at least three miles every night. While I am walking I put in the vacation planning DVD's or the park DVD's to keep me motivated. We also have posters of pictures we took hanging all over the walls!
3. I buy these socks from Dicks Sporting goods that are really expensive I think but they are for running/walking. They have support in the arch and really helped on our last trip.
4. Bodyglide

I feel your pain....I found a tip here before we went on our last trip to take aspirin or ibuprofin before going to the parks. I was skeptical but it certainly worked for me. I also wore croc flip flops. I will certainly do that again come September. Good luck and have a wonderful trip.

all these tips are great, I'll like to add one more. At night I rub my feet with a nice lotion, leave it on a little thick then put on cotton socks. Take ibuprofin & When i wake up in the AM my feet feel great. Boy do my Dogs enjoy this! I'm also walking the treadmill 2 miles a day to help with the walking part. Have a magical trip.:thumbsup2

I've read all the posts and the extra walking before leaving to go to the world are great. Losing some weight, comfortable shoes, good socks, my only hitch in this scenerio is straight walking around the neighborhood. In Disney, its alot of stop and go travel which puts a shock load on your shins and added strain to the calfs. I'ld practice stopping, starting, spinning around, anything to simulate the weird touring style of Disney walking. I tend to do a strolling kind of shuffle while there, no rapid straight walk. Quick stops, guests stopping in front of you, quick veers and turns and complete reversals to see something you missed. Even though WDW is fairly flat, little step ups here and there, curbs, ramps is a totally different walk than a walk at home for exercise but building cardio, and stretching there and home are a big plus and keeping hydrated to avoid muscle cramps are a big plus before entering Mickeys world.

An easy way to get in shape while donig everyday things is not to go for that close parking spot
Going to walmart park in the back spots, or at work
Though a treadmill is a good way to talk, I think walking on the actual surfaces you will beon is much better
Also if you walk a lot make sure you are getting enough potassium or you will get leg cramps

I am a type 2 diabetic and my doctor told me to get the New Balance tennis shoes. THE BEST THING I'VE EVER DONE !!!!! I live in Louisiana so you know I have to walk in the HIGIH HUMIDITY every day and they keep my feet in great shape. You can also get a product at any runner's sports store that is similar in appearance to a stick deoderant for your feet that I've use in the warmer months the arok well too. I sorry I don't remember the name of it though. The clerks will know what your talking about. I can relate to your plight as I missed the last two days of our first trip with hurting feet also.
