Any Suggestions??

We're heading down in a week for our first trip home to SSR. I told Member Services that we will be celebrating DS's 5th Birthday while down there. I have a request for Congress Park. I have all my ADRs in place and my touring plans all set up (TourGuide Mike).

We spent a week last summer at FW cabins and we had a very nice time, but I'm hoping for a more relaxing vacation this time around. Last summer, I was quite the Disney commando. We bought into DVC and we're planning a more relaxing vacation this time around, I hope!!

Any suggestions for something we shouldn't miss?? Or something that's a little bit off the beaten track? I have 3 very active boys. I'm really excited about going, but I'm trying to take care of a whole bunch of PTA stuff before we leave (crazy PTA president, you know), and I'm thinking that I'm missing something.

This is my first time starting a new thread, so please respond, even if it's just to say hi and wish me fun!!

We just returned from SSR last week of June and even though we didn't get any of our request and was in the furthest Paddocks building .It really wasn't that bad we had a blast as I'm sure you will.

Everest was great make sure you hit that a few times.

Other then that just have FUN.

Now that you have DVC I would suggest taking things slowly.....it will be extemely hot when you are down there....spend early mornings in the park, and the mid day taking naps and swimming in the pools....the best part of DVC is when I tell my wife "dont worry we always have next year to get to that. It is very comforting and much more relaxing

Definitely check out Soarin' in Epcot if you haven't already done so. It is quite the ride!!! Your boys will love it!!

I'd bet that the kids would like the Summer Block Party on Thursdays 5-7 pm. We have heard good things from last year's and my kids heard something about games and became very excited I'd also add that the pool tends to be a hit w/my kids and sometimes they have pool games etc... Goofy's Candy Company was also fun to make your own treats. And one more thing...beware of pin trading--we all started this 2 years ago and now we are hooked! It is a lot of fun though

This might be your last chance to try out Disney Quest as it is slated to close in October '07. Depends how much they're into gaming but it may be neat to see once before it's gone. I've heard mixed reviews but my 2 sons really want to see it before it goes away so we're going to hit in in October while @ MNSSHP. Hope you have a fantastic time!

If you're looking for something different you can pop over to Cape Canaveral and vist the Kennedy Space Center (serious boy stuff ) and no ressies needed.

My only advice beyond what you have planned is to give yourself a reminder EVERY DAY to SLOW down and smell the roses! Just remember, with DVC, you will be back many more times.

This is sound advice. We went the first week of June and would go to which ever park we felt like in the morning, then rest until 6'ish and head to what ever park had the extra hours. We beat the heat and were able to cut wait times down a bunch by taken advantage of the extra hours.

I would also highly suggest the character breakfast at the Crystal Palace. The food is excellent and if you do like we did and go around 10:30 you a lot of the cost will be absorbed by the fact you won’t eat lunch. We were stuffed and didn’t even think about food until late that evening.

My suggestion: Typhoon Lagoon! The wave pool is wonderful, slides pretty good and lots of people love the Crush n Gusher, water coaster.

I second the recommendation for the Crystal Palace; with younger kids, you will find it a haven from the hectic pace of MK It is a great place to eat, and you can't beat having Winnie the Pooh and friends visiting the table. They do a little parade, too.

I would suggest either an early lunch seating, or a late lunch seating. If you plan to stay the day in MK, afternoon thru evening, do the late lunch seating. You miss the crowds in the park that way, and your time in CP will be more relaxed, too.

One of our favorites is always Pirates of the Caribbean. (even before the movies came out) That's a staple for the family.

If you like ice cream/capaccino treats, stop at the ice cream/drink stand right next to Aladdin's Magic Carpet Ride. It has some very good soft serve ice cream, serves root beer floats and a capaccino float that is wonderful in the hot hot August weather.

One of my daughter's favorites is over in AK--I can't remember the name, but it's in the kid's area--Primeval Whirl, I think. We all love it!

Definitely plan for some down time in the afternoons--it is a wonderful way to relax and yet the kids can blow off steam.

We usually go back to the room and the resort pool. Community Hall at SSR has games for the kids, if you want to be inside out of the heat during the afternoon. You can also rent bikes (or bring your own, if you're driving!) to use around the resort.

The large pool has a pool bar with a refill drink station--you can refill your SSR mug there, if you decide to buy one. We usually do, since there are 4 of us it makes sense to get one or two mugs while we are there.

If your kids enjoy boats, take them on one of boats to DD or even OKW. If memory serves me correctly, you may be able to pool hop in August. Your checkin information will tell you if you can do that during your visit. Why not take a boat ride over to OKW and take a swim in their pool? (Just remember to check w/the OKW front desk and see if they are accepting pool hoppers that day.)

It's the DVC party for members-- you can find information on the DVC website.
We went to it last year: they opened up parts of PI early just for DVC--gave away cotton candy/peanuts/drinks. Had some midway kind of games--a lot of fun. I don't know where it is this year, but the website can tell you.
