We stayed at a hotel on the opposite end of the island as Georgeown. I t is called the Morrtis Tortuga Club and I think they have another one there too. They are vacation rentals, my parents had a time share (at that time) so that is how we got there. I found out later that Cayman is really $$. The airfare from Philadelphia to GC was something like $700 each. Food and alcohol on the island are very expensive. When we were there the Dollar was $1.25 Cayman so everything seemed 25% more, that coupled with the fact that they have to import everything makes things expensive. As the vacation wore on it ecame sort of a joke, I think at the end we spent almost $2000 not counting the hotel or the airfare. We also didn't buy alot of souvenirs other than the Cathy Church pictures.
A quick funny story, we went to the grocery store to get some things for lunch and breakfast, we bought one loaf of bread, one pack of Oscar Mayer bologna, one pack of Kraft chhese singles, one box of cereal, and one gallon of milk and the bill was over $30.00(cayman dollars) I think th milk was like $6 CD. It was definitely sticker shock!
Also, it is really hot there in the summer, we went in AUgust and everday is was in the 90s with 85% humidity, however I would go back in a heartbeat, althoughh I would definitely consider an all-inclusive this time!!
One other thing about Cathy Church, she is originall y from Altoona, PA, which is near where my DH grew up. Small world!!
If you need any mor information, PM me and I will tell you what we did. It truly is a fabulous place!!!!
