Mom and girls only trip. We would like to rent a convertible, not too grand, just for fun. I am not sure which company to look in to.
Thanks :D

We rented a great Chrysler Sebring a few summers back....loved it, but trunk space was minimal, if that's a factor (sort of goes with the body style  ). I think it was with National, but can't remember. Also, Hertz has Mustang convertibles.

I actually own a Sebring and love it. I must say that although the car has lots of room for passengers it is seriously lacking in trunk space. It is ideally suited for cruising long distances in comfort in the sun.

Convertibles are usually about the same price as a minivan. The best deals I have found have been either with Dollar or National. Check out Mousesavers for some discount codes.

Just a tip if you have never been in a convertible - make sure you have on your sunscreen and bring a hat (the only thing worse than hat-hair is stringy wind-blown convertible hair).

Actually I have one reserved in February and the best deal by far is Alamo. The rate is $282, all the others are between $400-500. I am just wondering if there is a reason Alamo is so much cheaper.

We rented from National last Oct-it was a nice navy blue sebring.
In March we are renting from Alamo (again, I think it is a Sebring)-great coupon from the entertainment book ($25 off) and the rate was already
lower than the competition's.

Did you have a long wait for Alamo? I've read a few posts where there was a LONG wait for Alamo. This is our 2nd trip the first time we rented from Hertz and it was off site which was inconvienent, so I was looking for something in the terminal. I'm just worried there will be long lines and we won't get the Sebring that we are hoping for.

You know I really do think it depends on season, time of day and day of week.
We usually get in pretty early on a Fri or Sat and have never waited more than 5 minutes (the exception was the time there were no vehicles available and the guy in front of us - who did not have a reserv. at all-insisted on arguing with the clerk, then the manager and still walked away with no vehicle after 20-25 minutes. It really was NOT Alamo's fault that time-they had a large sign on their desk stating there were no cars available.)

Thanks for your replies, I appreciate it. We arrive at 9:30pm on a Friday night which I'm sure is a busy time. But we do have reservations so I'm hoping we don't have any problems I've been looking forward to renting a convertible since the last time we went (2002), I wanted one then but it wasn't in the budget!

We really had a great time-drove all the way to Daytona Beach and back for the day with the top down (a little wind blown but no worse for the wear). It was alot of fun for a family that drives SUV's and minivans normally!

Hertz rents Mustangs, the new ones should be with the rental companies in the late spring.

Pack light. You really are not guranteed a "brand" of convertible. Just a convertible. Most companies use Sebrings, but Hertz does use the Mustangs and I understand that National/Alamo also have the PT Cruiser Convertible.

I have a convertible. The top goes in the trunk. Therefore, there is a VERY small trunk. (In my experience the Mustangs trunk is the worst!)

Mustangs also have VERY little leg room in the back seat.

Either Budget or Dollar also has Mustangs, can't recall which.
