Any Steelers fans?

I'm from Pittsburgh. DH and I are HUGE Steeler fans. Our entire basement is themed in Steelers. We have everything you need to watch the game - Pittsburgh Style - bar, yellow walls, Steelers neon signs, rugs, mugs, Ward and Bettis jerseys on the wall. Everyone knows we collect Steeler items so when they see things at yard sales, they grab them for us. There's one rule to the basement - No non Steelers fans allowed!

BTW, I always hear about "Steeler bars" in different cities around the US. I know Steeler fans have a huge presense and will travel to the away games more than any other NFL team - but it's so weird to hear of these bars. I can't imagine Pittsburgh having another NFL team bar!! It would be an outrage.
Your basement sounds awesome. Does your tp look out of place though? We have a local bar where Steelers fans flock to when its game time, its a place where every one knows your name... a Steelers fan!:cool1:

So you're the "what's with the lamp" peope, love that commercial!

We have Barnacles near Atlanta and the Oyster Pub when we go to Daytona or Disney.... we'll drive to the Oyster Pub from Orlando if we're at Disney

About 10 years ago, dh wanted a shirt, I called everywhere, found one about 45 miles away, told the person to hold it. Got home, dh was furious and said, "well I found a shirt, but they wouldn't sell it to me because they were holding it for someone". I whipped it out of the bag and said, "you mean this one?" :lmao:

It's not easy being black and gold!
Thanks for sharing, what a great story.

The Colts are my 2nd favorite team!

I ordered some Hickory Farms baskets 75% off (thank you, Budget Board!) and my order shipped today so our football munchies should be here in plenty of the for the weekend.

Pierogies (I probably butchered the spelling) would be OK to serve as a side dish at a Pittsburgh meal.
Ditto the Colts are our second favorite team too.

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Anytime you want a shirt...just let me know. I'll be happy to send one. :teeth:

No one is allowed any new ones right now however....no ruining the mojo! :teeth: :rotfl:
That's what my dh said too.

:lmao: Oh, thanks so much, but dh went up last fall and brought so many jerseys, shirts and hats back it's embarrassing, actually went to a Brown's game with some friends, forget who they lost to ;) , but someone near him asked, "dude, what's up?", so dh lifted his shirt to reveal a Steeler's shirt on underneath and dh said the guy was trashed and his reaction was hillarious....over the top shocked and then he couldn't stop laughing and then he started ssshhhing and promising to keep his new bff's secret :lmao:
:rotfl:

Our Father,

Who Art in Pittsburgh,

Football Be Thy Game.

The Kingdom Come,

5 Super Bowls Won,

On Earth as it is in Heinz Field.

Give us this Day a playoff Victory,

And forgive us our penalties,

As we defeat those who play against us.

But lead us into a victory,

And deliver us to Tampa!

A-Ben

Being a Steeler fan means so much more than football.
It means being from a corner of the world unlike any other.
It means being from a place where the people are so tough-minded that they
have survived the Homestead strikes, the Johnstown flood and most recently
the Etna Floods.
These people have the DNA of hard work, in mills and mines, without the
necessity of complaint.
They live simply, with no frills. They don't have movie stars or fancy
cars.
Instead, they have simple traditions like kielbasa, Kennywood, and
celebrations.
They live in distinctive neighborhoods like Polish Hill and the Hill
District and all of the surrounding counties.

These people are genuine.
They don't have chic internet cafes and cappuccinos, but they have
Primanti's, Eat n' Park and Iron City Beer.
People from Pittsburgh don't have sunny beaches or fancy boats, but the
rivers roll gently, connecting the small towns of people whose histories
have been built on strength and humility.
People from Pittsburgh don't have the biggest shopping malls or the best
nightclubs, but they'll take Friday night high school football and Steeler
Sunday over anything.
Steeler football means so much more than you think. It symbolizes a
Diaspora of generations who had the best childhood they could imagine.
They ran free without a care or concern in the valleys of those Allegheny
Mountains. Their blue-collar world was easy ... there was no one to tell
them that they lacked material things. There was no one to tell them that
they needed more.
As the steel mills closed and the jobs disappeared, some of these people
had to leave. While the world benefits because they spread their
Pittsburgh values, they long for their home where things were simpler and
more pure.
They teach their kids about Jack Lambert, Lynn Swann, Terry Bradshaw,
Franco Harris, Jack Ham, L.C. Greenwood, Joe Greene, and Myron Cope in
hopes of departing not just the knowledge, but the feeling that they
represented.
They are everywhere, those Terrible Towels. They wave, not just for the
team, but for the hearts they left behind. They wave in living rooms in
Fort Lauderdale and in the bars of Washington, D.C. They wave all the way
to the Seattle Superdome! They wave for the Rooney family, whose values
mirror our own - loyalty, grit, and humility.
They wave for football players like Jerome Bettis whose unselfishness and
toughness have allowed sports to be about the game and the team.
Make no mistake that Steeler football is not just about football.

I could not be prouder to be from the Pittsburgh Area than I am right now!
Even if you no longer live in the area, you have South Western
Pennsylvania in your blood no matter where you go. And deep down in your
heart of hearts, you can still hear the Super Bowls of times past, the
excitement in everyone's voices especially our fathers, cousins, and
anyone else who gathered around the TV on Football Sundays!! Make no
mistake, its just as exciting right now!! It's not just about rivalries
and who is better than the other, it's about family, tradition and roots!

It's more than football, but its football at its finest!! If you now live
in Arizona, Colorado, Ohio, Indiana, California, Florida, Nevada, or
Texas, be proud of where you were born and who your FIRST favorite
football team was!

I just seen on the news that Pittsburgh Mayor Luke "Raven"stall just changed his name for the week to Luke STEELERstall....nice!!!!!!!!

Members of the Steeler Nation know all too well the story of the Terrible Towel.
It was a brainchild of beloved and dearly departed Myron Cope during the Noll
Dynasty. The magic of the towel lasted beyond the retirement of Chuck Noll,
maintained its staying power throughout the entire Cowher age, and is still
going strong in the early years of the Tomlin era. The towels are manufactured
in Wisconsin by Chippewa River Industries. Proceeds from the sale of the towels
benefit Chippewa, which employs the mentally disabled, and helps to pay for
their care. Myron Cope also collected royalties and donated all of them to the
Allegheny Valley School , a special needs place where his autistic son is a
resident. Before he died, Cope bequeathed the Towel rights to the school,
ensuring proper care for his son and for many others.

What you may not know is that greed has found its way in to this benevolent
endeavor. The NFL is quietly working on a promotion to produce larger towels
for every other team in the league besides the Steelers. They plan to unveil
this gimmick after the conference championships this week and push it through
the super bowl. The plan is to market these towels and capture the enthusiasm
of the super bowl contestants. To get things moving, free towels were handed
out at every stadium during the divisional playoffs this week. You may have
seen the Tennessee fans waving those powder blue things. Of course, they would
not have brought their own.
Did anyone notice the complete backfire? All the home teams lost EXCEPT the
Steelers!

This is why the Steelers need to win the Superbowl. The sanctity of the
Terrible Towel must be preserved!
Also of note:

After the 2005 season members of the Cincinnati Bengals, AFC North division
champs, stomped all over the Terrible Towel before their playoff game with the
wild card Steelers. The Bengals still have not recovered from their loss that
day. The Steelers went on to win their Fifth Super Bowl.

On Dec. 21, 2008 members of the Titans stomped on the towel. Three weeks later,
the Titans took an early dismissal from the playoffs. Early on in that game with
the Ravens, many fans were waving their freebie blue towels marked TITANS!
Later, as the rain began to fall, and it got colder, they put the towels on
their necks to stay warm. Appropriately, as the game went on, their necks began
to TIGHTEN! And their team choked.

If the Steelers win the Superbowl this year, they will have to win two games
against teams named after birds. Then the opposing fans can use their new
towels to clean up all the bird S&%#. Also, a Steeler Super Bowl victory
will make the sacrilegious theft of the spirit of the Terrible Towel the worst
marketing idea since the NFL network!

GO STILLERS !

Thanks so much, haven't thought about the root of my values in a long time. My grandma survived the Johnstown flood.

Love the prayer, and LOVE the picture of "that's Hines Ward Baby!" Not really sure why we started saying that in our house :upsidedow but it's fun.

You're kidding me, they can't copy the Terrible Towel can they?

I hope they always have the terrible towel. I did a lot of volunteer work with Myron Cope. I took my kids to the Allegheny Valley school as part of my volunteering to show my kids just how lucky they were. It really made an impression on them.

His invention raised a lot of funds for Autism and the AVS. I hope it continues for years.

My heart's starting to pitter-patter faster any one else? Again, I can't wait for game day, but I'm going to be in knots until the final 30 seconds or so of the game.

What awesome posts I've been seeing. :)

Every time I think about it, I get the shiver jitters, I could live with a blow out :thumbsup2

Awesome Pic! I just printed it out here at work on our really good printer and it's frame worthy. Thanks!
