Not everyone has a/c down here. I understand people not being used to the hot weather, but the same thing seems to happen every year. You would think local govts. might try and prepare people for hot weather before it actually gets hot. Kind of like hurricanes and winter storms?

There are water stations they hand out water... and the news keeps saying to check on your neighbors... and they open hydrants for children but that doesn't do much for the poor and old who cant get out.

the humid heat up here is also different than dessert heat... The people here just aren't used to it.. I think Fla and TX residents are and know what to do.. people were just can't handle it.

Last off topic note. I promise.

I suppose you're right CinRell. Hopefully things cool down soon.

HOT and HUMID here in Maine too --- today and tomorrow then back down to breathable temps for us!! One of the few times I am glad to be at work vs home since I don't have A/C -- rer1972 hurry and get hooked up at home so we can chat soon!! Michelle

hey guys I'm working in Mississippi and live in Alabama...we hate the heat and have a hard time living in it toooooooo....ya just slow down...take lots of breaks...and cool showers...and drink LOTS of fluids...and we know NOT to go to WDW in August ...its just tooo blinkin hot for fun!!! :joker: :cool1:  pirate:

I lived in Texas and Florida and both were humid and hot, but then again, Montana and Michigan and Ohio are hot and humid too. Even Vegas with it's 'dry' heat is getting more humid all the time. It is the older people and children who are affected the most no matter where they live. If you live in the South, you almost NEVER see the elderly outside during the summer. It's the newbies to the local that are affected, the homeless and the stupid.

Consider how many 'macho' men think slamming down a 12 pack of beer on the golf course in a 90/90 situation poses no danger? or sitting in the driveway staring at a car that they are 'working' on killing a case in 100 degree heat. This isn't just men either. Parents leaving children and animals in a hot car for 'a few minutes" or uncovered in the sun. When I moved to Florida I stopped beering it up on the golf course or even at the pool. Disney World was never pleasant during the summer. I would golf early, hit the pool and then hit the parks in the evening. I would lose 8-10 pounds on the golf course and feel obligated to put it back on at the Beirgarten.

Stay in the shade, drink tons of water, use fans, do indoor activities (yes, that too) go to a matinee movie and sneak into several so ou can stay all day, go to the pool but wear plenty of sunscreen, wear a hat!

Just my 3 cents

Bill

june and july are no picnic either. I remember when I went for the 4th of July, stayed at OKW, by the time we left our room and got to the bus stop we were drenched in sweet....and we had a room right by the bus stop :rotfl:

I was just there in June and I thought I'd die from the heat. My next trip is November-nice and cool...

Very nice - and oh you play hockey !!! my son is 9 and made our Tier 1 Elite Travel team for this fall.. He has been playing since he was 4! he just came back from a week long hockey camp in Nova Scotia! cute dog too!!

Another Steamy day here in Maine - they are saying inland - where I live could reach over 100 too !! UGH

It's like your reading my mind mickeysbestfriend. Every year there are parents who leave their child in the car in the heat. I just don't know what they're thinking :sad2: (guess they're not thinking).

I stopped going to WDW in the summer when I started planning my own vacations. It's sooo much better. Fewer crowds and a lot less heat!

Thanks Michelle. I wish I could have started playing when I was that young. IMO it's the greatest sport there is, and I've played just about everything.

I have been going in late August for the past few years and love it. Yes its hot - but you just have to be smart about it. and the crowds, generally are low. Ill take the heat and no lines over the alternative.

Of curse there are times with no lines (little lines) and little heat but I cant take DS out of school then, so late August works for us.

I went the first week in sept last year and it wasn't unbearable. It was hot but. it's florida. it's supposed to be. I loved it. Crowds were PERFECT (none)

I love the idea of a sept trip because of the crowds, but I also worry since its still prime hurricane time

Hurricanes are a rarity in Central Florida. Yes, a couple years ago was the exception - but remember that - the exception.

You will find great deals from Mid August - through Spetember. Originally, Thats whey I decided to come to Disney during that time - the rates were much lower (I got a DTD hotel for $25/night in 2003) and while there found that crowds were so manageable that you had time to take lots of breaks for the heat and be back in the hotel for a swim or just to relax each day.

Also, the last year and this we will have free dining to take advantage of. Again, the heat is manageable, just be smart!

It's uncommon for hurricanes to really hit orlando... we got some rain everyday but it just kept the crowds even more away;)

Seeing as this thread deals with single guys I though I would share this. I just read this off another site and it was funny and creepy at the same time. K-RAZY!

Oh, and I was staying at ASM when one of the many hurricanes was coming through in 2004. We ended up leaving a day early. Good thing too. The airport was closed the next day. From what I read about being in WDW during a hurricane they are very organized and prepared. The day we left they were putting away every loose item in the resort, and delivering instructions to all the rooms on hurricane preparedness (sp?).
