My kids get out May 20th but not all Oklahoma schools do. My oldest daughter teaches in a different district and doesn't get out till the 6th of June.

Lori

We are in Oklahoma as well, and my DD's last day is supposed to be May 23. However, that is with snow days built in, and since we haven't had to use any, I'm sure it will be earlier than that, like the 18th or 19th.

BTW, Lori, I love what you say in your location line! ! (See my tag) I only wish it could say "TWO-time Heisman Trophy winner AND QB for the National Champion OU Sooners"! Oh well, sigh! :sad2:

I don't mind at all...we are right down the road in Statesboro!

Do you mind disclosing what you are paying for your flights? I've never really considered flying but 2 hours sure does sound great! :flower:

May 20th here in Columbus, GA.

I too am concerned over this new starting date issue. I am a teacher and we go back the first week and the kids come back the second week. I have gotten quite accustomed to getting out in May and not June.

I have a question for you Florida residents. Up north here, we had heard that because of the hurricanes many kids had missed up to a month of school. Due to this a couple weeks would be added to the end of the school year - putting most of you out sometime in early June. Is there any truth to this? How many hurricane days did you miss? How have/will those days be made up?

Just curious.

In Okaloosa County, which is NW Florida, we get out on May 18th also. And we were fortunate, we only missed about a week of school, of which 2 days were made up by losing holidays, and the others are made up because we go to school a few minutes longer every day than we have to, so the extra time is made up that way. Other school systems were not so lucky.

No I don't mind at all. I have been watching the fare since I found out about the flight. It stated out at 236 then dropped to 188.90 back in Jan. it was as low as 113.90 but I had signed up with Travelocity fare watcher and then Orbits Deal Detector and they let me know the fare dropped again. We were able to get it at 136.90 for May 18 out and returning May 24th. Checked 6 hours later and it was back to 186.90.

Now I wish we were leaving on the 17th because then we could have the extnded hours in MK on Wednesday. :sad2:

Thanks for the info - I am going to have to check into this! We are only 40 minutes from Savannah airport.

Sorry about the flight - but sending pixie dust your way for LOW CROWDS that week! :flower:

I'm from Brevard County in Florida. We get out on the 24th.

As far as hurricanes go, we missed a little over a week but are only making up four days which we have already done. They cut short the winter break and used teacher in-service days.

don't worry about us up north due to snow, as of now my kids won't be out till
June 23rd! I hope no more snow days cause as of now our plane to Disney leaves June 25!!!!!!!!!! :cool1:

Thanks to eryone fot the info. :flower: :flower:

Iwannaboback: Here is alittle extra pixie dust to keep the snow away. :wizard:

Pixie dust needed up here also! DD gets out on June 17, as long as we don't have any more snow days! Aarrrgh! Last year we flew to WDW on 6/16, and they'd been out of school for a week! What really burns me is that they won't DO anything for the last 2 weeks, just play games, watch movies, have field days, etc. I'd rather be in WDW!

BTW, all you folks who get out of school in May...when did school start for your kids? And how does going to school a few extra minutes "make up" for missed days? Maybe for missed time, but for missed learning?

leebee -

Why do they make your kids stay in school if they didn't USE the snow days? Hmmm....sounds strange to me too!

We get out of school 5/20. Kids started school on August 3rd. Back when I was in school down here in good ole 'ga we started after Labor Day but the idea is now to end the semester prior to Christmas break.
:flower: In Ga, it is too hot and humid to do much in August anyway, so I'd rather be out in May or early June.

Have fun on your trip! :flower:

No kidding, with the way this winter is going around here, they'll be in school until July!

School started on August 5th or 7th--sorry, can't remember which! The high schools like to have the semester over in December before Christmas break. (It started about December 18th). And we haven't figured out the extra minute thing yet--once again, clueless parents. I guess we just already exceed the number of hours required for a year of school, so they could justify it. Besides, the state can forgive up to four days of school missed, if the state wants to, that is.
