Any reviews of Red Fish Restaurant on Hilton Head Island?

I was just looking at their website and the menu sounds really good. Okay, the low carb chocolate dessert is what really caught my attention. I'm looking for reviews from anyone that has eaten at this restaurant. How is the early bird menu? Is the restaurant far from the DVCHH resort?

Any and all help is appreciated! Thanks!

We've eaten there a couple of times and have liked it! The restaurant itself is great. It's owned by the same group that owns Old Oyster Factory and Alexander's. All three restaurants are great, but each definitely has a distinct "personality" and menu.

What I really like about RedFish is that it's like 4 places in one -- there's the restaurant. Next to it is a wine bar, with a more casual setting of tables. (Kind of like a bar in a many restaurants.) Next to the wine bar is a retail store with cute little "things" related to food -- serving pieces, paper goods, decorations, etc. At the end is a gourmet food shop/bakery. You can even order whole dinners from there to take back to your villa to warm up.

Red Fish is not far from Sea Pines Circle. From the resort, you turn right on 278 and go to the circle. You do 1/4 turn (equivalent of right turn) and go about 1/2 mile down. The restaurant is on the right. (If you get to the Food Lion grocery store, you've gone too far...)

Thanks so much for the info on this restaurant. It sounds like a place DH and I would like to try.

I knew my fellow DVCers would have the answers I was looking for!

We ate at the Red Fish October 03. We enjoyed the meal there quite a bit. I felt a little underdressed in our casual vacation clothing (don't remember what I was wearing, but was probably either shorts or capris). There was also a really large party next to us who were really dressed up - so that made me feel even more inappropriately dressed. We had the kids along and I remember thinking that it might be a nice place to go without the kids if we ever have that opportunity while at HH. Anyway, to answer your question, yes - we liked it and would recommend it.

I haven't eaten there but have heard of a number who have. And all said good things, never heard anything bad.

We really like it. We also do the Early bird dinner. It was $13.95 This included a soup or salad. Main entree with starch and veggie of the day. I had the New York Strip. It was good. It was cooked with a jamacian spiced infused butter. That same steak would have been around 28 dollars on the regular menu. The early dinning is not crowded and nice casual dress would be fine. late dinner would be more upscale. We needed not to order an appetizer. they kept us with pleanty of bread with a flavored dipping oil and a flavored butter. it was good.

I also suggest Alexanders. they have the same early bird dinning and they also have a great screen porch to eat in that sits right on a river.

I have seen several folks mention early bird dining at HHI. Is this something that requires a coupon or do all these restaurants have a specific early bird menu before a particular time?

Thanks!

PJ

Thanks again everyone for your suggestions. I was thinking about trying Alexander's as well since it's closer to the resort. I didn't know Alexander's had early bird dining too. But Red Fish sounds great and has gotten such wonderful reviews. Decisions, decisions . . . :)

PJ - I read on Red Fish's site that they have early bird dining from 5:00-5:45 and they even list the menu items. I assume that Alexander's is similar. Can someone verify? Thanks!

Early Dinning is mostly from 5-6 on area rest. Many stop the dinning at 5:45. I have seen people come in a few minutes late and be refused the early dinning menu. There is no coupon needed. The Island dinning guide that you get at checkin will list pleanty of places that offer early dinning. I think it is around 50 places. each place has their own prices, offerings, and times.

If I had to choose between Alexander's and Red fish, personally I would choose Alexanders. We love to sit on the patio and the food is great. There is atleast 6 items or more to choose from on the EB. Red Fish is great, too, but at the beach, we like to sit on patios. Red fish is a darker romantic type place, though it can be very loud if it is busy. Alexanders is classic American steak and seafood, RedFish is American,Cuban,Asian fusion type cuisine. Both are good, so it is just you are more in the mood of.

IF you want the patio at Alexanders, you need to ask for it, or they will seat you inside. it is a covered screen porch, so it is open even it is raining.

As of June Early Bird at Alexander's was 5-5:45. I know the old Oyster Factory was on the DVC discount list. I know that Alexander's was on either the DVC list or Marriott list but I'm not sure about redfish. One thing to note is that in EVERY case where I had a discount and another special, I was able to use both. Whether it was 10% off AND the early bird at Alexander's or 10% off and coupon for a free salad at Old Oyster Factory.

We've eaten in Red Fish a few times and it's been great. It also has been on the DVC list of 10% off for dinner restaurants

Rachael Ray's "$40 a Day" show on the Food Network just started airing their Hilton Head show! The restaurants featured are Signe's Bakery, The Sea Shack, Old Fort Pub, and Hudson's. You can check the schedule at: http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/show_ad/episode/0,1976,FOOD_9947_35147,00.html

The first showing was last night and overnight. Unfortunately, it won't air again until AFTER Thanksgiving, but it still might be interesting to check out the recipes, etc!
