Any restrictions on Points transferred?

I am out of town right now and do not have access to my DVC guide. I have placed a condo that we are buying in Hawaii to trade for DVC points on the rent/trade board. I have received a lot more interest than I expected and now I am concerned about having the excess points in my account. I currently have 600 points available a year which takes care of our 4-5 visits per year pretty well. But I had thought I might use the extra points from the Hawaii trade to maybe take a cruise. My question is...are transferred points treated any differently than my own. I just want to make sure that I can rent them out if I need to and if there are any restrictions on those transferred points.

Thanks,
Melanie

Transferred points will be your own! ;)

The only restriction is that they maintain their original home resort and use year- and thus are subject to those banking/use deadlines.

Enjoy!

You can even bank those points transfered to you. What you cannot do is actually transfer them again to someone else. Nevertheless, that does not effect a rental that is done by you using those points to make a ressie in the name of another (that act is not considered a "transfer" of points).

Thanks so much for the speedy replies. I can go forward with the request for the Hawaii trades now.

I did not know that - is that in the latest guidebook and I missed it. Two years ago that was not the case! Systems limitations precluded tracking of transferred pts other than manual expiration from the original use year.

Interesting.... Very Interesting.

I don't think it's been put in writing to the members. The change was made at the same time they changed the usage on holding account points from 30 to 60 days, I think that was fall of 2000. I have been told by MS it's true but haven't tried it out myself.

Thanks Dean!!

Good to know. I'll ask next time on the phone with MS. I would probably only use the option if I wanted to move pts between my two home resorts, but good to know the option exists.

Thanks again.
