Any Refurbishment for the Wonder?

I am starting the planning stages of our second Disney cruise and I was looking for information on any refurbishments coming up for the Wonder but found next to nothing. Our first cruise was on the Wonder and we love the smaller ship size but the pools did not have anything to offer for my tween and our cabins were really starting to show their wear. The new Magic setup looks great and we wanted to sail the Magic this time but there are no Magic cruises that would work for us and some 5 nights on the Wonder that I am considering but the pool and cabin situation is making me think about it.....

Sept/Oct 2016 the rumor is. That's what came up in the latest CDC report...

That also works since the Canal expansion shouldbe completed by this time frame enabling larger ships to fit through. It is my understanding that the reimagined magic currently cannot fit through and neither can any of the dream class...

"Panamax" is the term used for ships size to fit through the current Panama Canal Locks. The Magic can not fit now due the duck tail, and the slide going over the side. Thus the reason for the Wonder not getting the major facelift.
"New Panamax" will define the size restrictions for the wider locks. The Panamax specifications have in effect since 1914.
If you ever get a chance, do the DCL Panama Canal cruise. It was amazing going through the locks, and in true Disney ways.. They had a Captain on board who was a Canal Pilot his most of his career. he gave amazing lectures during the whole cruise.

I don't believe that the pool areas will change (much). Wonder might get the AquaDUNK like the Magic.

Unfortunately, I'm afraid that the re-imagine will probably be a lot like what was done to the Magic. Trying to make the classics like a mini-me of the Dream class ships. I wish they would leave one ship with the classic look. :worried:

The slide doesn't really affect it as the walls of the canal when the water is at it's lowest only come to about deck four

RE: Panamax and the Magic

Haven't been on the "new Magic" yet -- so I don't really know how much over the side of the ship the AquaDunk slide sticks out. There are two potiential "issues" - depending upon how far the slide sticks out ... 1) the lightpoles along the sides of the locks and 2) the visitor center at the Miraflores locks. I don't think either would be an issue.

It's the "duck tail" that was added to the Magic that makes her to long to fit through the current PC locks.

I agree with you. I wish they would leave the Wonder alone. Maybe some new furniture in the staterooms but other than that i love it the way it is!

After having been on the Wonder and then on the re-imagined Magic, I'm not that concerned. I think the changes are subtle and work. Loved Cariocas, the new Cabanas (cause the free flow works!) and even the changes to the Atrium make the space seem bigger. And AP changes also work nice since the original show stayed instead of being replaced with the animation show.

The only drawback is the loss of the secret deck. Also, we'll have to see how AquaDunk works. It's not for everyone like AquaDuck is. But at least they've removed the height restriction on Twist 'N Spout, cause there's no way I'll do AquaDunk after seeing DS16 white face after he came out of it...

Does that mean that anyone can go on Twist 'N Spout? Or is it still kids only?

Agreed. This is my jihad. What exactly is wrong with the Wonder now? Do people think she is being held together with duct tape and prayer?

She is a fine ship in fine shape, and there are many on these boards who prefer her over her hefty sisters.

It's funny - our 7 year old daughter, who has been on 11 cruises over all 4 ships, asked if we could be sure to get on the Wonder before she gets reimagined in 2016 :thumbsup2 We switched our spring break cruise to the Wonder next year :goodvibes

Two things that I noticed this weekend on the Wonder that were welcomed changes (since we were on it in 2012) were the stateroom doors and Shutters. They changed Shutters to use the Book system used on all the other ships. That is so much easier than having all the pictures displayed on the walls.

They also changed out all the door locks to the touchpad. This is so much easier than having to remove your KTTW card from the lanyard every time you go to your room.

I guess these are pretty minor since I don't think I have seen them mentioned much but I appreciated those two things :thumbsup2
