Ok Stayers is not a word but I was wondering what offering did they have for appetizers and snacks on your recent visit?

I am trying to decide if it's worth upgrading too....

Plus did you get checked in early? We will be arriving at 8 am and it would be very nice if we could get check in early..

I want to know too! Staying at Poly in Oct and wondering to upgrade!

We're leaving tomorrow for Poly Concierge! I'll let you know the offerings and maybe snap a few pix if I can!

We will be trying to check in around 11:30am. I'll see if anyone got in earlier to check in and if we will have a room ready.

Hi! :wave2:

We arrived at Poly concierge (Feb 23, 2004) at 9 am and our room was ready.

This wasn't a big deal, but no one met at the Ceremonial House. Instead, we valet parked and told the valet we were concierge guests. He called and then the bellhop came in a golf cart and whisked us away!

In the mornings, they had juice, coffee, tea and soda
Muffins, maybe danish, cereals and milk, fruit
Bagels and Enlglish muffins. It was good but the same everyday

From noon to 4 (I think)
All Beverages
For kids: pbj sandwiches (YUMMY!) gummi worms and goldfish crackers
fruit cookies brownies

At 5pm
Wine and the other bevvies
They had samplings from Ohana - chicken and beef skewers
pork fried rice
cheese and crackers
veggies
more pbj for the kids
fruit cookies brownies

After dinner, they had desserts and more wine and some liquor
The dessert were little cakes. They were okay but nothing fabulous

We're going in November with the Poly Lagoon View Concierge. What floor do you suggest? We want a balcony so that we can view the water and fireworks.

We regularly check-in by 8:00 a.m. on our arrival day. Checking in is no problem whatsoever. You may or may not have your room ready at that point. It's been about 50/50 for us when we arrive in the early a.m.

If the room is ready we will usually take the time to unpack. If not, we dump the luggage in lock-up, check-in, and head off to the parks. We will call the concierge desk periodically to get an updated status on our room readiness and return when it is ready OR when we are ready for our swim, whichever comes first.

We always pack our swim gear in a separate small pool bag so that we are able to leave that with the concierge desk in the event that our room is late in becoming available. That did happen on at least one occasion--the guests wouldn't vacate the room. We didn't get our room until 6:00 p.m. despite the after 3:00 p.m. promises. It really fouled up our evening plans, but it all turned out fine.

I'll be awaiting your report on offerings cortegro--I doubt it's changed though--the concierge offerings have pretty much stayed the same over the years.

I want to add something but I do not want anyone to think this is meant in an anti-concierge way!

We loved staying concierge but want to mention that if you are upgrading for the food alone, you will not get your money's worth!

It is the extra service that we enjoyed but was hard to put a price on. A lot of our friends keep asking if they should upgrade, and we aren't sure what to say! Even with a baby, we still were hardly at the hotel.

The extras that we enjoyed: not standing in the long line we saw at check-in, getting in our room at 9 am, good times for PS, the Poly concierge lounge, unlimited cookies and sodas, walking downstairs and sitting with the concierges and having them answer our questions.

We felt taken care of - they helped us get medication, mailed our international postcards (!) and suggested dinner places.

This isn't to say that you wouldn't get exception customer service for the CMs if you didn't stay concierge!

I know concierge is more than just food offerings... I just wanted to make sure we would be able to enjoy some of the offerings since DH is VERY picky eater.... I don't want to pay the upgrade if we do not eat there at all...

Actually I like the idea of an earlier/easier check in too!

Last week was our first non-concierge stay in 7 or 8 years. We can't wait to get back to our concierg "home" in May!

In January the food items were as described by another poster, but they vary day to day. It is always a good assortment, sometimes Mexican or Italian "themed" for snacks rather than Polynesian. They even get an uncrustable for DH when they're not out, because he loves them. In addition to what was already mentioned there is also oatmeal at breakfast. For snacks we've had teriyaki wings, chicken satay, awesome egg rolls, pot stickers, a chili-mac type casserole, antipasto salad, plus fresh fruit, vegetable crudites, cheese & crackers...

RHZamora - Only the 1st & third floors have balconies or patios, but even if you are on the second floor, as long as you have lagoon view, you'll have a great view. With garden view you can always watch from the lounge.

Like Tess we always check in early. Sometimes the room is ready, sometimes not. It's no problem if it's not, because you have access to the lounge as soon as you check in and they store your luggage for you even if it can't be put in the room. They have even stored our laptop & DVcam in the concierge office so it would stay cool and be safe.

Can't wait to return "home"!

Last September we statyed at the Ploynesian LVC and we were in our room at 7:03 am. I dropped one bag and ran to the parks with my family. We had a great room and a FABULOUS staff. Concierge really added to our experiene. They do such a nice job! I can't say enough nice things about our experience! We are going again this September, LVC. It is the only way to travel.
We have two small DDs and spent some time at the resort, nap time. The convenience of the monrail and the PBJ sandwiches, the water and juice boxes. Oh and the chocoalte milk (they had white milk too) were just too convenient.
Rich form conierge bent over backwards to make us feel welcom. We were also the reciepients of Disney magic here.
If it is in the budget, do it. They go out of their way to make you feel special.

Callie, do I take what you posted to mean that the water bottles are back at Poly concierge?

Ann:earsgirl:

The plastic water bottles in concierge were discontinued in the middle of our November 2003 stay, so they might have still been available during the other poster's stay. The poor CM's just about had a riot on their hands the day the bottles disappeared. I felt really bad for them, and they seemed to sympathize with the guests. They said corporate had given various reasons for the discontinuation, ranging from environmental responsibility to abuse of the free bottles by guests who would pack their little nylon coolers with a dozen to take to the parks.

What's to stop the guests from doing likewise with the sodas? I think that's a bogus explanation. Sodas have to cost more than a bottle of water. I would bet it has more to do with distribution agreements with the soda provider. The more bottles consumed at no cost are fewer bottles sold elsewhere. Just a guess, but that was always the excuse given for the discontinuation of beer at CL in favor of wine.

I don't doubt that guests took full advantage of the water bottle supply. Heck, we would grab one on our way out the door--which we drank before ever arriving at a park. We'd also grab one for our room or by the pool in the afternoon/evening. Still, just how much does a bottle of water actually cost versus that of a soda?

The variety of explanations given tells me there's more to the story than simply guest abuse. I personally have never witnessed anyone taking a cooler of water bottles during the many years we've stayed at Polynesian and other resorts. We go in summer, too--one would think that would be prime time for abuse.

We said pretty much the same thing in a letter we wrote to Guest Relations. We have seen people filling backpacks and such with the bottled water, but we've also seen people taking tons of food and leaving it wasted on their table, so do they plan to limit our food intake as well?
Also, what's to stop the people who were greedy with the plastic bottles from doing the same by filling up sport bottles or whatever from the glass bottles now provided. If the "abuse" was really part of the reason for the change (and we, too, feel it had more to do with spurring water sales in the parks) then the real answer is to address the greedy guests, rather than penalize the rest of us. We liked to keep the bottles in our minibar for late at night, tooth brushing, a drink of water upon rising, etc. We have made do with tap water in our Brita fill 'n' go on the last 2 trips.
We love Disney and we're not going to let a bad corporate decision change that, but this move is certainly an example of the short-sighted bottom-line tunnel vision that current management is noted for.
