Any QSFB All Star Resort Alum out there?

My daughter just started the college program and has started training at the All Star Movies food court. So far she is miserable. She has to be at work at 5:00 am and she said that the majority of the staff speaks Spanish for the most part...which she does not. She is definitely going to hang in there but I just wondered if anyone had any thoughts??? The shoes they gave her are killing her feet so I sent her out to find new shoes. Any suggestions on that would also be appreciated. She never talked in her interview about QSFB and she really did not want it. she is bummed because she really wanted to work with guests. I feel so bad for her since she has wanted to work for Disney since she was a little girl and now it is not turning out as she had hoped.

It's very very common for CPs in all roles to have very early training shifts with the older more experienced cast members. Once she has earned her ears and has a little bit of experience under her belt she'll probably get the less desirable closing shifts with other CPs. As for the shoes, I was merch so I really can't comment, but maybe Dr. Scholls could help? As for how she ended up as QSFB, if she didn't both mark "no interest" on the application AND specifically tell the phone interviewer that she had 0 interest in QSFB then the option to place her there existed even if she wasn't given any questions about it. Usually at some point during the interview the interviewer will ask if you are willing to consider QSFB Custodial or Housekeeping. Those 3 positions tend to be high turnover high demand positions. I'm confused about your comment that she wanted to work with guests; QSFB tends to be very very high guest interaction positions. Tell her to stay with it! It gets better and there are many things to do outside of work that makes the program SOOO worth it. If your daughter chooses to extend her program she can switch roles if she likes. Good luck and I hope things turn around for her! :thumbsup2

My S22 did QSFB last spring, didn't like it at first since in the beginning they stuck him in the kitchen too. Later, he was a food runner at ESPN WWOS and loved it. He also worked the water parks when they opened.

BTW: He was spring adv and started in early Feb.

I understand custodial for females isn't that great bc they take turns cleaning the restrooms at the parks. There are more guys than gals. So the rotation for cleaning restrooms for females is more frequent.

Thanks for the responses. I am sure that things will get better for her. It sounds like some kids get moved around to other areas. Is this likely?

If you mean moved to a new location. Sort of. Some roles can be "deployed" to other locations as needed. For example they often deploy merchandise cast members to other locations where they are needed like EPCOT during Flower and Garden Festival, or Hollywoood Studios during Star Wars Weekend.

If you mean moved to a new role. No. It is not likely unless she has some sort of medical accommodation that they cannot accommodate or cannot pass some sort of safety test (like in attractions). I had to change roles after my merch location could not accommodate me. It was made clear to me that this other role was my only option or I could go home.

I didn't work QSFB but I did work merch at All Star and often got scheduled 5 am shifts. I know what your daughter means. My 5 am shifts included setting up some food products from Merch in the food court. It's pretty empty in there that early in the morning, not much guest interaction (but for me at 5 am was prob a good thing....lol) Working that early just pretty much meant prepping stuff for the day.

Also, sometimes I would get off at 11 am or 1 pm while most of my CP friends were just beginning their shifts at their respective locations.

I had friends that worked QSFB and their scheduled was ALWAYS consistent...5 am shifts.

Tell her to stick it out, they still have arrivals coming in...I'm sure another CP will join her.

Good luck to her!!

I'd be careful about buying new shoes. I believe that all F&B cast members are issued a pair of non-slip shoes, and they have to be worn at all times on the job.

Regarding the Spanish-speaking co-workers, when I've worked with multi-lingual co-workers, I found even if I didn't really know any of the language, as long as I made an effort to try and learn the basics (hello, good morning, good afternoon, how are you, etc), then i was treated with more friendliness than others that didn't make the effort. (Not that anyone was really unfriendly)

When I worked QSFB at DHS I was not given any shoes, it wasn't until later in my program when I started Blizzard Beach that they gave me shoes. So if I remember correctly I just wore white sneakers and when I was asked if they were non slip I said yes, obviously I shouldnt have done that but I had no money to buy new sneakers. So I think she should talk to someone where she works and just tell them the sneakers are hurting her and they will tell her what kind of sneakers to buy.
Also, while working QSFB when she gets the chance to work cashier, tell her to give it 110%, I did very well as cashier and it seemed like that wasn't common (mainly because there was a lot of spanish speaking people that had broken english so they didn't do well at cashier) So they put me on cashier whenever I asked them too, it really changed my experience because there is so much guest interaction and you don't need to touch food the entire day. Tell her to request being cashier and as long as she does well at it I'm sure they will try to keep her on it.

One more thing... I totally feel her pain, I had 3 roommates and all three spoke spanish with very broken english. The first week was a nightmare but as time went on it got better and better. They were very nice roommates, it's just that having 3 on 1 like that was very hard to deal with. Good luck to her!

Thanks for the repliew! I will pass along the info about being the cashier. I really think she would like that.

Oh no! I worked QSFB at All Star Music and LOVED it! But I know from experience that the first month was really, really rough. It takes a while to get used to everything at first, but it's a lot of fun! She might know one or two of my old managers that I *think* transferred to Movies after I left, and I loved them so hopefully she'll get to interact with them a little.

And she will definitely appreciate having the Spanish-speaking Cast around when things start to get busier. Trust me. The All Stars are Value Resorts, so you get a lot of Guests (just like in the parks, I'm sure) coming who don't speak very fluent English, so having Cast around who can interact with them is a huge bonus!

And the nice part about QSFB at the All Stars is the amazing consistent schedule. I was trained on nights, but I knew quite a few CPs who were trained mornings, and I think a couple of them actually preferred waking up early as opposed to going home so late every night. (I would, too. I would sleep in from working so late, that by the time I actually woke up I had to get ready for work--this way she has the rest of the day to do what she wants.)

My best advice to your daughter is to wait it out and see how things go. Once she gets more comfortable with where she works, and once she meets more CPs (A LOT work at the All Stars, trust me) her experience will change. I was terrified my first few days and had to set goals for myself to keep me at Disney rather than self-terming, but I ended up making it to graduation AND went Seasonal because I loved it so much. :) The people really made the experience worth it for me (and the comfy costume didn't hurt, either). Plus, I heard that Movies is the better of the 3 food courts to work at from friends who picked up shifts there. :) (Oh! That's another thing! There's always open shifts at the All Stars and it's super easy to get extra hours because you'll have a good idea of what to do, and you don't have to worry about getting a new costume.)

Hopefully my too-wordy posts helps! :goodvibes

Hollsey...thank you so much! I will pass this on to her. She seems a little better now but this will surely help.
