Right now our plan is to drive from Houston to WDW in early March. But we have been contemplating flying if the price is right. Are there any chances that we find a good deal on a flight between now and then? What are some tips to maybe try to find hidden or surprise low rates? I was hoping to get a flight around $300 a ticket. Southwest would be ideal as my wife has the companions fly free deal since she is a frequent flyer.

You might get lucky with priceline but be prepared to have to take the every early flights. But I would not try priceline till 3-4 weeks from your travel date

I would never use name your own price on Priceline for airline tickets. It's too risky; terrible routings, bad seats, no frequent flyer miles, etc.

Right now, I saw some RT tickets on Spirit for early March for $206 (if you're willing to fly them); and around $369.00 nonstop on United. Southwest was very expensive for the same dates, over $400. So much for a discount airline!

Don't put off your purchase too long.

We booked RT from lake charles to orlando (with a stop in Houston) for $250 apiece on united for feb 8th. I don't know why but It was cheaper flying out of lake charles instead of driving to Houston and flying from there. Maybe check smaller airports that will have a connecting flight through Houston.

Don't despair; there is still a chance that prices will come down. Keep checking back. Prices keep changing, sometimes several times a week.

You're in a good position geographically to wait out a good fare from the airlines. If nothing good comes along, then you can drive without too much difficulty.
