Well I'm turning 30 next month (my warranty expires :p) and for my birthday present my fiancé got me tickets to BOTH Aladdin and the Lion King!

Has the podcast done and episode reviewing these offerings / has any of them seen it and recommend it?

Apparently Aladdin has stellar reviews as well as the countless awards Lion King has won.

Have any of YOU guys seen Disney on Broadway be it Mary Poppins Aladdin Little Mermaid ect?

I saw a touring production of The Lion King. It was incredible!!!!! With The Little Mermaid and Mary Poppins, listen to the cast album first. They both are different from the movies. The Little Mermaid is a love/hate musical. You either love it, this is me, or you hate it, basically everyone else I know. Mary Poppins is a great show, I sent my parents to the touring production a few years ago. They loved it. I like the music, but the staging and script, I am not a fan of. Enjoy the shows and Happy early birthday!!!!

We saw Aladdin and really enjoyed it. James Monroe Iglehart is phenomenal as the Genie and the set design is really cool. Also neat that Jonathan Freeman plays Jafar - he was the voice in the original movie. Also great that they added in back some songs that were cut from the original movie - particularly Proud of Your Boy

Only other Disney production we've seen on Broadway is Aida - which I thought was only ok

Hey Thanks! Turning 30 isn't as bad as I thought it would be in fact, it's pretty cool!

Thank you everyone for the input! I cant not WAIT to go to a broadway show I'm kind of excited :D

Awesome birthday gifts, and early happy birthday, my friend! I saw Beauty & The Beast numerous times while it was playing, and it was awesome, made me cry every single time, and I bought the cast recordings. I've also seen Lion King several times (took several friends over the years as birthday gifts, matter of fact), and it was also stunning. For my one friend's 50th, I was also taking another friend as a birthday gift, and couldn't afford orchestra seats for all of us, so I made sure to have the "50th friend" in the orchestra, on the aisle, so she could get the full effect - won't spoil it, but it makes it all the better to sit on an aisle :) - I asked, and she didn't mind sitting alone when I told her she "needed " to. :)

You will have an awesome, wonderful time, and I hope you'll come back and tell us all about it. If you get "bitten by the Broadway bug", I have a hint for you. Sign up at Playbill.Com (they're the same ones that publish the booklet you get @ the show) for their e-mails. Very little personal info needed, and even though I haven't used them in awhile, I have gotten some spectacular deals from them over the years with special codes to use for special pricing. I remember one of the last showings of B&B we got orchestra seats for like 40% off,on a Saturday.

Is Jonathan Freeman still playing Jafar...?
MUST...SEE...THIS...!!

We saw James Monroe Iglehart at D23....
Man, that guy can entertain like nobody's business, he's phenomenal...!!

I saw the original tour of Mary Poppins, and I loved it so much I saw it twice (I never see a show twice in one run). However, I saw a local production of it at a generally well respected regional theater and it was less impressive.

I've never been impressed with the changes made to The Little Mermaid, but I really wanted to see the recent mini revival of it that changed a lot of the sillier elements like the heeley shoes, and the floating arms. The ship wreck scene was pretty impressive though...

I saw Tarzan...once...it...wan't my favorite. That's about the nicest thing I can say about it.

Have fun on Broadway...!

Having seen the Tarzan show @ AK when it was there, I could not believe they had made a whole Broadway show. I know that show @ AK sucked. I guess it's been too long now, but I wish they would have turned the Hunchback of Notre Dame show from the Studios into a Broadway show - it was definitely B'Way caliber, and made me cry every time I saw it!

The Broadway version wasn't much better...the Cirque elements were cool, but it just took so much of the fun of the movie out that it was one of the dullest things I've ever seen.

The Paper Mill Playhouse in New Jersey did a new staging of Hunchback, and while it's not "technically" Broadway it's where Disney Theatricals tries out some of their newer shows; most recently they did the first run of Newsies there. We saw the new Hunchback when it premiered in San Diego at the La Jolla PLayhouse, although in our opinion it didn't even come close to the old Festival of Fools at Disneyland. It was darker than the film version, and kept many of the book elements but it still tried to keep a lot of that Disney feel....it ended up just feeling confused.

The opening number (Bells of Notre Dame) was probably the best number...

Wow - thanx for that. I am definitely familiar with the Paper Mill Playhouse, and have friends who are members, but I sure didn't know they put this on. And it's quite a different story than I remember from the Disney movie and the Studios show. Still touching though.

I want this soundtrak so bad!!!! I love this version!

My Aladdin event was tonight and the theater was PACKED...I work in lower Manhatten and it took me an HOUR and A HALF to get there...what is going on this week that it seems more packed than normal in New York.

Anyway the show was AMAZING I didn't honestly think I'd like it, I'm not a huge fan of Broadway and it was simply amazing...everyone always focuses on the amazing performance of the genie but the entire cast was on point...really an amazing show.

To see a whole new world and friend like me done in person like that was simply fantastic and made me feel so proud to be a Disneyfan

RUN and get your tickets to this amazing show - and yes to the most beautiful girl in Australia I will def go again :)

This makes me so so SO happy!!!
Can't wait to go see this with some of the best company i can ask for!!!

So very glad you had a great experience, especially since it was for your birthday. Now - since I'm sure you were thinking of your very fave Princess Jes during Aladdin (which I haven't seen), can you think of l'il ole me for a quick nanosecond while you're enjoying Lion King? (which I have seen?). Pretty please? :) (Especially where they raise Simba up @ the beginning - gets me every time, even in the movie, and the show in AK!) :)

Very glad to hear you enjoyed the show. I must say that some of the performers must have stepped up their game or just gotten more comfortable as when we saw it (which was when it first opened) James Monroe Iglehart was significantly better than the others and really stood out. Particularly I thought the actress playing Jasmine underpeformed ... Not that they were terrible or anything, but not amazing - so glad to see it has improved in that regard

I think being the first or opening show there is SO MUCH PRESSURE to deliver or to make expectations. However, they were all wonderful - it was VERY VERY well done.

Again to note though Manhattan was insane yesterday - I guess we're becoming like Disney where there is no slow time!

I have never been to New York so haven't seen any actually ON BROADWAY (lucky!), but I have seen the touring productions and/or local theater groups for Mary Popping, The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, and will be seeing Newsies and The Little Mermaid this year. I saw The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast as part of the national touring productions, and will be seeing Newsies the same in May. My 11-year-old son is my theater partner, and I saw The Lion King before he was born, and I really wish it would come back again - he would LOVE it! (Shhh, don't say anything because it is not Disney, but we are dying to see Matilda when it hits the West Coast!)
