Any Pittsburghers here?

We drove from Dubois down with a 2 1/2 year old. Straight thru....NEVER AGAIN...next time we stop enroute. LOL Took about 24 hours...we made a lot of stops for the little one. On the way back it was so hot as we went thru South Carolina we spent the nite at a hotel just to get cool...lol That was a lot better. We had both of us driving(mostly my BF tho-I can only do short stretches at a time and not at nite at all) We are planning a trip for next year and hope we have enuf to take the auto train down. I dont want to fly-too much hassle and I like to drag stuff along just in case, so that pretty much rules out that choice anyway. If we cant we will drive again but take our time this time.

We've driven to WDW three times. Two times, we stopped overnight in GA or SC. Once, we drove straight through, and I would never do that again. It was way too tiring for us and I was afraid one of us would fall asleep at the wheel.

Usually, our total driving time from Cranberry has averaged 16-17 hours.

I've been practicing my WHOLE flight home!!!! :goodvibes

Oh, my gosh, where do I start? First of all, let me be tell each of you thank you so much for all of the advice and thoughts coming our way as we were there in the 'Burgh ( :thumbsup2 ) for the past 5 days. I have to say...I LOVE PITTSBURGH!!!!!!!!!

I had my reservations, because I had lived in new York for a while and did not care for it. However, I cannot tell you enough how wonderful and gracious everyone we met were. I think I am going to love the city, and all of the fun things there.

We stayed dahntahn (is that right? ;) ) at the William Penn Omni, and it is a beautiful, old hotel. We got in Friday afternoon and DH had a meeting to attend so I rested and relaxed. Then we met a co-worker of his at Benihana's for dinner. Saturday, we started looking at houses in Cranberry, Seven Fields, Wexford and the Treesdale area. We found two houses there that we liked, but my favorite got a contract on it before we could offer anything. The second favorite was still a contender.

Saturday night, Dh's best friend drove in from Baltimore (he's a UVA grad) and we got to go to the Pitt/UVA game. We actually went to Outback at PNC field and had drinks before, and when we came out, they were in the middle of the Panther Prowl with all of the cheerleaders, band members and old football players walking to the field. It was a lot of fun, and we went to the game. Froze our butts off, then went for a late supper.

Sunday was late breakfast, then met with another realtor for the USC, Mt Lebanon area. I think the market is cool for our price range, because we saw a lot of neat homes, but all were in need of restoration, and we don't have the energy for a major overhaul. Supper was at The Fish Market and back to the hotel.

Monday, we met with the realtor from Sunday and she showed us a neat house in Peter's Twp that would work for us, but it, too, needed more work than we could give, especially to the yard. So, we went back to the house in Cranberry and looked at it again. Talked all night about it, and yesterday, we made an offer on it! Right now, we are in the phase of counter-offers and such, but so we don't know exactly how it will turn out. It is in our higher price range, so we will see. If it doesn't work out for us with that one, something else will come along.

Thanks to all who have helped along the way. I was very sad to hear of the mayor passing. He looked like a fine, distinguished gentleman.

Magalex, thanks for the weather order! Even though it was raining, it was a nice breather from our 95 degree temps down here!

Phisigprincess, thanks for the link. I didn't get it until today, but I will still look at it.

Buckylarue, I think you will love the area! Hope you have lots of luck finding your perfect home! :thumbsup2

Thanks again, everyone! I will keep you posted!

Jodi :sunny:

:wave2: from Cranberry too!

For our DS's first trip(April 2005) we drove! We loved it but it was also spring so the weather was great. He was 4 1/2 yrs at the time. We did stop in Orangeburg SC. It took two days but we encounter no stressfull events with our trip. So I can say it was lots of fun  :moped:

JoBird: I glad you had a nice and informative weekend in Pittsburgh!

Okay, all you Cranberry residents... it seems that Cranberry and the surrounding areas are full of ghosts. (At least according to a web site I stumbled across). Especially a subdivision called Pinehurst..? No, that's not the subdivision I'm trying to buy into. However, if I get into a house with a ghost, I might faint. Any other subdivisions that are, well, wrought with "energy"? :teeth:

Jodi

PS...The William Penn Omni where I stayed was also on that list! Oh good heavens! Thank goodness I didn't encounter anything other than partying neighbors in room 2211! :rotfl:

:teeth:
I hope I never SEE any ghosts in Cranberry!!!!! :rotfl:

Well I am more Harmony/Zelienople area and we have an awesome little watering hole , the Harmony Inn. They claim to have ghosts present, but in my 6 years of going I have never had the fun of seeing one! But it is a great place for dinner and hanging out at the pub part for a beer! They also have an outside patio for the summer too! I think it is worth a drive!

I haven't had the chance to read all of the postings, but thought I would chime in. I am a born/bred Piksburgher, but now live in Harrisburg due to my husban'd's job. My brother actually lives in Beechview on Rockland Ave and loves it. He is litterally 3 houses up from the T. I say "up" because it is all hills and one-way streets. I absolutley love the burgh and am dying to move back home. There are so many amazing wonderful things to see/do and the people are all very friendly and sarcastic and smart-*** at the same time! :rotfl: We lived in the North Hills and took Rt 8 to the city. i parked at PNC park and walked over the Clemente bridge to get to work (KDKA-TV). I so miss my daily brueggers bagels and lunch at the gardens at PPG place. My brother owns his own mortage company and is an excellent broker if I do say so myself! If you need some more info about him or from him, PM me.

I hope you have a great time visiting the city!

I love it there! :teeth: :thumbsup2

Mind you, this is Beechview, in the city, but we were having trouble with mice. (Well it was one mouse. I called it the "Lone Mouse Theory" and named him Lee Harvey Mousewald.) We called the landlord about it, and his wife said that they didn't have mice, but had the ghost of a guy dressed as a lumberjack in the house.

For days, I went around singing the Lumberjack Song, trying to get him to come out. Nothing.

Don't know any ghosts in the Pittsburgh area. Gambier, Ohio, where Kenyon College is? That's a whole 'nother story.

Well, I am just tickled with all of the history that comes with the area. I can't wait to get there and check out all of the towns and shops! :goodvibes

Dh just called from downtown. He is near Heinz field, where his job is and said that it is so much fun walking to his car and seeing all the people tailgating and waiting for the big night. He gets to go to a game in a couple of weeks and sit in his company's box. Lucky dog... :teeth: Unfortunately, I won't be there. :guilty:

I guess we're Steeler's fans now!!! :thumbsup2

Ok Please bare with me. Where in the heck is Cranberry? I have my Pittsburgh Map out and dont see it. My husband is military and we are thinking of doing his last tour in Pittsburgh. I have found the other towns that have been mentioned like Bethel and Mt Lebanon.

My husbands family is from Carrick and no offence to anyone but the schools are our main priority and Carrick doesnt meet out needs.

Hey...if he needs a date! I'd be happy to sacrifice myself and go with him to the game! :teeth: ;) :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

My husband is there tonight but there wasnt a ticket for me!! :sad2:

Doodlebug,

Cranberry Township is North of Pittsburgh.....79 North....past North Hills, Wexford, etc. In Butler county. :teeth: Good schools...lower taxes than Allegheny County.

and my DH went to Carrick high school and would be the FIRST one to tell you: Don't send your kid there!

Thanks for the reply. How long does it take to get to the city. I will probably work in the federal building downtown.

It takes about 35-40 mins depending on where you park. It's not a bad drive at all....no tunnels to go through.

:teeth: Would that be "the INCIDENT" or "THE incident"? :teeth:

Someone wrote a book about ghosts and hauntings in Pittsburgh. There are quite a few of them.
