Any other Monorail Obsessives out there?

I am a huge monorail obsessive!!! I love those things. Ever since I was little one of my fav things to do at Disney was ride the monorail.

My fav experience was when I got to ride in the front, SO COOL!
(Tink shamefully admits she is a 17 yr old LOL)

I even say the lines "Please stand clear of the doors" and though I can't type it I can SAY the Spanish version

So are there any other people who are monorail obsessed like me?

The monorail is one of the best attractions at Disney. We don't care that it takes less time to walk from the CR to MK. We're taking the monorail! We'll be riding it the first night we get there even though we won't be going into a park. We always make sure we take the monorail, but I must say that I have to defer to your obsessiveness. I don't have the script memorized.

The monorail is one of the best "rides" at WDW. My favorite "ride" is between 4-5 pm taking the monorail from the MK to Epcot. It is a much longer ride than the trip to/from the TTC. At this time of day their aren't too many people on it, so you might not only get a section, but a whole car to yourself. I love to spread out and relax after that long day fighting crowds and heat at MK, look out the window at the beautiful landscaping, listen to the monorail spiel, and think about the yummy dinner we will have at Le Cellier and that moment, when watching Illuminations, that the world just seems ok.

ME TOO! ME TOO! ME TOO! ;)

And I thought I was the only one! ;) SnackyStacky, you just beat me to it. ;) I always say the safety spiel along with the announcer.

Does anyone's obsession extend outwith WDW? Mine does. I love all monorails (but WDW's is sooooooo the best!) and I HAVE to ride one if I see one. I've done the WDW monorails, Orlando Int. Airport monorails, the Seattle Space needle monorail, one in Gatwick airport, London, ..................................... WOW! Maybe I am a little too obsessed! :D I love the WDW monorail so much that I'd been to WDW 4 times before I ever took the ferry to the MK!

So are any of you guys as bad as me? (Please say yes :D LOL!)

Ona ;)

Hey Ona....watch out for the green ribbon!!! My stay overlaps with yours, and will have on my ribbon!

I'll have mine on too!

So if I spot someone else going round on the monorail on the same loop for the fifth time I'll know who it is. ;)

Not long now. WOO HOO!

I think that my love for the monorail goes back to when I was a kid. We didn't have lots of money to go vacations but we had the basics to life. We went to WDW when I was 2 weeks away from my 15th birthday I had always wanted to get on the monorail. It was so magical for me.

My favorite WDW personal memory is looking at the castle as the monorial pulled away to take us back to the TTC. We were going home the next day and I wanted one last look. The sky was deep blue and there was a full moon above. I think I will remember that picyure in my head for the rest of my life.

Now it is special to me, since DD gets such a big kick out of it. Last year we upgraded to the Poly, and DD though the monorail was a ride (which came in handy the night of 9/11, when that's all she could do. It kept her happy). Now she tells me and DH that she wants to stay at the monorail hotel, not the bus hotel. The kid is in for a surprise when we check into POFQ!

This Oct. will be our 1st trip to WDW. We are staying offsite at HIFS. Where is the best place to get on the monorail? Will it take us all the way around? How long does it take? Anyplace in particular we should get off and explore? I also think it looks like a blast! Is this the best way to "tour" the parks without going inside? We arrive late our 1st day there and I thought this might be a good start, followed by DisneyQuest and Illuminations. Then inside the parks the next day!!!

And since this is our 1st trip, I'm packed full of questions!!! Thank goodness for these boards!

The monorail is actually more of a transportation system around WDW than a true "ride" as I called it before. There are a few places you can get on/off the monorail. At the TTC you can board different monorails. These will go to the MK, Epcot, or the monorail resorts. I have found that they occasionally have a security person at the TTC gate to check if people have passes. You might not incur this if you are arriving later. If you go to the MK you can take a ferry boat back to the TTC for a change of scenery. If you go to Epcot you really can not get off and do anything if you aren't going into the park, but you can ride it the full circle and get a wonderful view of future world at Epcot. If you take the resort monorail you can get off at any of the monorail resorts and explore. The contemporary is the tall resort which the monorail actually goes through the middle of. The polynesian and Grand Floridian also have monorail stops. Since you are staying off site you will have to drive into WDW. That means you will have to park somewhere and incur parking fees. I do not know how late in the day you are arriving but I am not sure you will have time to explore the monorail resorts, go to Disneyquest and see Illuminations. If you do not have an AP than you might not want to use a whole days ticket to see Illuminations. Plan that on another day when you are going to be in the parks. If you drive into Downtown Disney you can park there and then take the bus system to the TTC or a monorail resort. You can then explore and go to DQ.

You are not alone. I LOVE the Monorail. I don't feel like I have arrived at WDW until I see it whoosh by. I too have ridden in the front. I memorize the spanish version of the speech. I may not go to the park but I always ride the monorail. It's a great way to preview Epcot since the Monorail goes inside and then back out.

I love riding the monorail. We got to ride up front on our last trip-very cool!

I just rode the ferry for the first time this past May, my 9th trip to the World. I really enjoy the monorail at DL, it is even more of a ride attraction that WDW.

You can never be to old for the moorail! I love that, and the spanish 'please stand clear of the doors' is my favorite saying (though I havent figured out how to spell it yet!). My most prized possesion is a monorail 'honorary pilot' certificate i got when I was younger after riding in the frount. My younger brothers also love them, and they compare the color stipe on the side of the monorail. They always check to see if it's a 'good color' when we travel on them!

I've always loved the monorails since I was a kid too. They are very pleasing to the eye with their sleek design and the white color of the train with the different color stripe. I like the fact that they were designed in the late 1960's and still look futuristic today.

I am....:D I LOVE the Monorail! We honeymooned at DL and stayed at DLH, so we could hop on tne Monorail to go to DL. As it happened, the Monorail was closed that week. We were depressed and a little angry. Oh well...:D

I did buy the toy monorail last year. I put it around my Christmas tree. It was awesome...:D

For me, nothing is more Disney than that monorail. Just love it.... love the feeling I get looking around and seeing MK in the distance. SIGH... I wish I was there right now. :)

In December 1989 the WDW monorail system was refitted with all-new Mark VI trains (fromhttp://www.wdisneyw.co.uk/tranfact.html

If you drive into Downtown Disney you can park there and then take the bus system to the TTC or a monorail resort.

You have to go to one of the monorail resorts from DTD, there are no buses to or from the TTC @ DTD (this is so that guest will not park at DTD all day while enjoying the parks... (since there isnt much parking on the market place side anyways during the day)

A trip isn't complete without riding in the Front car!!! We love the monorail. My goal is to drive it sometime when I'm retired!!!:bounce:
