Any other Florida residents feeling slighted?

Sorry, but I have to agree Florida residents do deserve more benefits than those who don't. Florida residents (like us & many people I know) make quite a few more trips annually than out-of-staters. Even though we hold season passes, we spend big bucks on dining, lodging, and whatever else you can buy at Disney. Disney knows this, that is why we get the added benefits. They want us coming as often as possible.
And yes! we get great rates on cruises, so definitely don't discount that. TEE HEE..... :bitelip:
Don't be a hater because you don't live here, that's all.

If you want to make a decent six digit figure or above not in Fl, if there is a great job let me know and i'll come back.
So are you saying there are no 6 figure jobs in Florida?

gardener14,
I think it's fairly common for theme parks to offer discounts & special promotions to what their definition of a "local resident" is. I know my sisters get discounts to Dollywood that I am not eligible for when I go with them. I suppose it's their way of getting the local's money that would be spent elsewhere.

FLAsomeday,
Maybe I was unclear in some of my post. I didn't mean to imply that we all should agree. My point was: If I see a post that's titled "New Jersey residents, do you feel offended when people bash us, during Jersey week", or "DISers from Massachusetts please read", obviously I'm not from either of those states, so I don't even read it, let alone change the post to fit my situation. Personally, I just find it sad when anyone is flamed so badly, and I feel that the replies wouldn't have been so harsh if it were only FL residents, who were replying, which is whom they were addressing. While I don't have a problem with anyone receiving discounts, as a FL res., I wasn't offended by the post, and didn't feel a need to respond negatively. If I were from another state, I may feel differently about the post.

I am catching up on all the new things happenning and as a Florida resident (native I might add) I am thinking that there really is NO added benefits for being a resident....well, seasonal passes....

it seems all the things offered to us as a "Florida" resident are also offered to AP holders....

we should get some additional benefits for all the additional tourism we have to fight.......

not trying to start a debate or anything, but it just doesn't seem fair.

You get an almost $100 break on your Annual or Premium passes (Annual with tax Florida resident-$318. Annual with tax non Florida resident- $403). You could have to pay the price non Florida residents pay, then you would have reason to feel slighted.

I must have missed this Florida Resident Memo. :earseek:

Good Point! My hubby is a CM, but since we are not FL resident's we have to pay non-Florida resident price (minus the 10% discount). A lot to pay for an employee of the WDC. I'm feeling slighted!! Eeyore0062, can't you put the good word out that there are people like us that need a break. Why not let out of state CMs pay the FL price, like they do on the DCL???

Without tourism and the money that outsiders from all over the world bring to the state of FL, Fl would not be anything. So I would not be gripping since we are giving the floridians a somewhat of a paycheck. As everyone knows you can not may a decent living in Fl unless if you own and operate your own business.

it's still be a beautiful state with wide open white sand beaches. and I'll give you my address so you can start sending me the checks directly. and I'm not going near the last comment. I'll just scan in my W2.

that's why we deserve more of a break, we've got to hear how everyone else supports poor florida. if you want some of the perks, come on down. then you get to witness people smacking their kids around, complaining about the money they're spending, demanding justice for the money they're spending, driving I-4 with a map unfolded on their lap, etc. we need better breaks because we deal with the influx of tourons 365 days a year. is everyone a touron?, of course not, most people are here to have a great family vacation, and we've got ample venues to offer. 95% of the people are great, it's the other 5% we need a dicount plan for. For example, we were at US/IOA Fri and Saturday.

1. I got repeatedly jabbed in the ribs on Jaws because a woman was FREAKING OUT trying to put a poncho because she thought the shark was really going to attack the boat, and I guess the poncho was going to save her.
2. at lunch, a family was looking at their map frustrated. he asked me 'where in the hell is the tower of terror?'. that's at MGM studios, we're at US. so he started with the F-bombs.
3. in line for the mummy, near the top of the platform 'so is this walk-through tour?' no it's a high-speed roller coaster. 'I don't see that' I'm wrong, it's actually a ride-through tour, very educational.

don't give me discounts, give me a free lunch everytime I encounter a touron. I'll be way ahead at the end of the year. :D

Oh those are TOO funny... kinda like the ones who come into Downtown Disney and want to know "where the monorail station is that will take us to Walt Disney World".

The family in line for Epcot and the kid asking when they will see the castle..."oh, honey its just on the other side of the park... you just can't see it from here.. you will see it when we get over there"... wonder which castle she is going to show the child... Akersus in Norway?

And of course, the classic "What time is the Three O Clock parade?"

Yes... it is that 5%

people's you seem to miss one point of my whole post, that is why I left FL!! Too many tourists, and the bashing etc, etc, etc. . .I could go on and on about the horror that is on the news but I do not feel that it is needed. I still visit my homestate and believe me I do not regret my move. I may have to deal with traffic in a larger metro area, but that's life. It's like I have said one day after retirement,. . . .

Not to mention a better advancement in my line of work with the extra$$

Thanks to the Fl residents that have responded....I do realize that we are lucky to live so close and be offered the discounts that we are offered, but I am sick of hearing how lucky we are that the rest of the US (and world) are supporting us and that we (Florida) would be nothing without all of them. (maybe I should just quit my job and you all can start sending me checks...)

Yes, I suppose I could move, but I am a native and this is my home. October through April/May I get to enjoy higher prices at the grocery store, people on Sunday drives everyday of the week....I could go on and on....I guess I am more respectful of the people around me while I am on vacation....I mean I do realize some people have to go to work, etc...

I don't begrudge anyone a dicount....BUT as someone who has been "loyal" to Disney for so many years (as they tell me) and I am sure as a family we spend well over the average amount per year at Disney than the out of stater...it just seems that Disney could offer something truly "ours" (meaning the FL resident) - it doesn't have to be huge discounts, just something....

this reminds me of a lesson I use in my classes:

Most people say "yes". But, it makes no sense. You are getting something ($10 or the DDE discount) for nothing. You recieved something simply because you happened to be somewhere at the right time. Why would you care about what someone else recieves? You ought to be happy for the 10 dollars, & happy for the person recieving the 1000....not angry at them or "slighted" because it wasn't you.

This is all too common in our society...Something to think about...

Ok - the DDE is not "for nothing" = it still costs $70 (I think or $75)...I think it was a great Fl resident benefit as we probably visit a lot more restaurants over the course of a year and spend more money in those restaurants than non Fl residents (only because we are so close and have the opportunity to visit more often). Now that they are offering this to AP holders I would bet that the dining rates are going to go up.

precisely. and how many of us 'poor floridians' will be able to afford that. just the ones with the $15 million dollar gulf estates. I'm glad they're fortunate to own a business. I'm thinking of starting one, so I can start making some real money. I'll test your IQ in front of the parks, to make sure you're intelligent enough to behave yourself when you enter. thanks for all you do for us, America. keep those checks coming in.

"Florida - We're Nothing Without You" (well, less congested, safer, less expensive, happier....)

how many people outside of Florida would totally flip if WDW just quit giving out discount codes? (we can't afford to go now...you need US...we're paying your salaries...blah blah blah)

We don't get special rates at our local amusement park. At some parks, I can buy a season pass, but anyone can buy those. I wouldn't be complaining about the resident perks.

Nobody would have brought up the Tourism Supports FL argument if someone hadn't stated they were more entitled to benefits because they "have to fight the tourists"

You attack, you best be ready to defend.

Launching the "fighting tourists" bomb on a board primarily made up of tourists is bound to provoke some anger, don't you think?

I am a FL resident and I don't feel slighted in the least, the passes are a great deal, most of the time we can go anytime we want, we can make day trips or weekend trips, they give us hotel discounts and with the passes also discounts on some meals. We FL residents do not spend what a guest does that makes it a destination visit. We also can go at times others can not and truely enjoy the parks...........what more could you want? We have Disney in our backyards!

I highly disagree....what a family of four or five spends on a weeks destination visit I easily spend in two four day trips....

It isn't that I feel entitled..but Disney has promoted Fl resident benefits for sooooo long...and they used to be just that. I don't really want to hear how loyal I am and what great deals they are offering when anyone anywhere can buy an AP and get essentially the same hotel rate etc that I can.

Don't get me wrong I love the benefits we get, god forbid anything happen to them - but if you want to thank my loyalty do something just for me Disney!

As far as fighting tourists....I wasn't attacking and this was a question DIRECTED to Fl residents, so yes, while this is primarily a board made up of tourists I wasn't looking for a fight...I just wanted to know if it was my pregnancy hormones getting me down about Disney or what. I live in a beach town and we fight them everyday and most anyone who lives here who is native - it drives them nuts. Then you have to deal with the 6 month snow birds as well....

I'm not a FL resident, but I, for one, would not be opposed to WDW offering you all more discounts if that would be in the best interest of everyone.
As for the FL natives complaining about tourists and crowds and snow birds etc.....well that's the same as the comment made here :
as far as all who live in taxed states - you can move here and enjoy that benefit....
I find the statement a little glib/flip ? Because those "complaining" FL residents could apply that suggestion to themselves and move elsewhere if they are that unhappy. But in reality, there are many things that keep people situated in the state they're in (jobs, family, school etc) and the option to move is not that simplistic.

As for theme park atmosphere.....one is simply gonna find that in a setting of that sort. I'm a PA native but don't get discounts at Sesame Place, or Hershey Park or Dorney Park etc for living in PA.....or any of the ski resorts in the mountain areas. During the limited seasons we have for these destinations, I find I have to contend with large crowds and ill manners of native and out-of-staters. I think anyone, in any state is going to put up with things like this. Sure WDW is a much larger tourist destination and these concerns are all on a larger scale. BUT, FL is blessed with a great climate year 'round and your theme parks etc can stay open 365 days a year. What a perk that is in itself ! It's totally dead here from Nov through Memorial Day (unless you ski, which we don't. We hate the cold weather). Our theme parks/water parks/mini golf courses are all closed---like a ghost town. My kids are bored silly....can't ride their bikes or roller blade because it's too cold outside and there's snow/ice on the ground.....etc. I have to deal with sheer boredom for over 5 months out of the year because our weather doesn't support much outside activity during that time period. We primarily go to the movies or a local inside roller skating rink. That's all there is around here.

I'm not trying to flame anyone, but instead, asking you all not to focus on what you "don't" have, but look at what you "do" have. A beautiful state that has so much to offer it's residents in way of mild weather, various theme parks, an abundance of wildlife, gorgeous beaches on both coasts and a state that doesn't "go to sleep" ,so to say, for 6 months out of the year. I have several family members who retired to FL and say they'd never come back to PA (I even asked them this question point-blank after the hurricanes last year).

We'd love to be able to hit a water park or theme park on our weekends off during the fall, winter & spring season. I'm very happy with the recent DVC AP discount. But overall, I'm paying the same amount as a FL resident is and only getting to actually visit the parks a fraction of the time that a resident would. So I'm getting nowhere near the value out of that perk as a FL native would (if that makes some FL residents feel any better about what they have ?).

One day I hope to retire to FL ---I consider you Floridians a pretty lucky group (and I say that in a sincere way !). I'd move now except for my husband's job and my kids have said they don't want to leave their friends/relatives. And I'll repeat, if WDW offered you even more discounts/perks than you already had, I would not be resentful of that.

Perhaps if Disney started offering "other" state residents discounts then THEY would come more often and spend alot of money. I always wondered why the locals were targeted when they are right there anyway. Why not try to bring in people from other states and give them incentives?

There are many out there who live in other states that go many times a year..some probably more then residents do
