Well, I just got through my first day of Atkins Induction. Just wondering, anyone else going through it for the first time? Either I'm doing something wrong or this first day wasn't too bad. Alright all you veterans, which is it? Hoping some others are there with me.

I'm not going through induction right now, but I didn't have any trouble during induction. I didn't give up all caffeine either though. I think it's much harder if you try to kick caffeine at the same time.

I love the food allowed on Atkins and feel it's been relatively easy for me, especially after I got into ketosis and my appetite disappeared.

I hope all of your days on Atkins continue this well. :)

I'm in day two and I plan to allow myself one Diet Coke a day. (I know that is not the "approved" plan, but.... that is as far as I am willing to go!)

I actually had a headache today, but I think it is sinus so I guess I can't blame that on Atkins!

My big challenge will be starting Tuesday when I go on a business trip until Sunday! We will see how induction goes while traveling!

I was thumbing through the book last nigh and ran across an comment about the problems with pain during induction was usually wiht people who aren't taking suplements, or the right suplements.

When I tried Atkins via the rumor mill I had terrible joint and stomache pain and had to stop the diet. I think part of my problem was I over did the carbs for 2 days because I wanted to get in those last bitefuls before the diet.

I officially start the induction on Monday but I'm cutting back on the carbs for the weekend. Hopefully between that and taking enough suplements I won't have the problems I did before. The stomache problems I think came from too much dairy and fatty foods. My IBS just can't handle them.

well, DH and i both started induction on 1-1, I had cut my carb intake down, no caffine and no added sugar the Saturday prior. I didn't eliminate everything, cept caffine. I stopped eating crap for snacks, and began eating veggies. DH did not start anything until the morning of 1-1. Neither of us are having any ill effects, no cravings, nada. Matter of fact, I'm usually full most of the day. The hardest part for me is later at night, when I'm on the computer. However, a piece of gum and I'm good.

I noticed that we are actually eating more food than we did before, I never ate breakfast, hardly had lunch, and snacked my way through dinner. DH never at BF, and did eat lunch most days, but usually not a good dinner. Now, we are actually consuming probably twice the amount of food, so we're not craving anything since we're actually full.

I think, though I may be wrong, the people who cheat, or fall off the plan are actually not eating enough of the food that they are suppose to. Now, I'm by no means a pro at this, however when I read other people's journals, I see that the days they had trouble, is the days they didn't consume as much "good" foods. Seems to be a pattern.

The only supplements that DH and I are taking are a 1 a day multi vitamin. Not something we use to do. Which is actually a good thing, as I know my pediatrician recommends them for my DD's, I never really pushed the issue with them, now when we eat breakfast together, we take ours, and they take theres.

First timer here!
First time on Atkins Induction, and first time ever on any diet!

Officially starting on Monday. We live in a very small town, and I wanted to have the weekend to shop and get everything together. I plan to try and find all of the supplements they suggest in the book tomorrow, the Atkins #3 formula, and the Essential Oils formula. I feel like I'm gonna need all the help I can get!
Over the past few days I've tried to get myself ready by cutting out all of the caffine I'm used to everyday,(big time Coke drinker), and have been having headaches.

Glad there's another first timer here too, maybe we can help each other figure this thing out!
I've read both the Atkins Diet Revolution and the Atkins Essentials, but I still feel a little lost.

Welcome to the world of Atkins. I started the program the Sunday before Thanksgiving and boy was that tough. (I survived with deviled eggs, broccoli and Jello.) After seeing me lose 20#'s pretty effortlessly my DH started on 1/1/04. He is a big time gourmet eater and cook. The first thing he did was go to Atkins.com and print out some recipes for the Induction Phase. He spent most of yesterday shopping for ingredients and today he has already fried 3#'s of bacon, made a pot of Creamy Mushroom Soup (very tasty) and the Ancho Macho Chili (Unbelieveable!!! You must try it!!!).
The thing that got me through the first week of induction was Sugar Free Jello and Whipped Cream!!! I have already been drinking caffeine free pop for about a year so switching to diet was no big deal. Also if you crave something sweet try Orange Tic-Tacs. Much better for you than gum, and NO carbs!!! Also try the Fruit2o flavored waters, they are FAB!!! Sam's club carries them in 2 different varieties, sweetened with Splenda, they are carb free.

Good Luck!!

I started on Jan 2. Today is my third day and so far I am feeling and doing fine. I accidently ate cottage cheese last night. I didn't realize it was NOT allowed until after I ate about 2 ounces. Oh well.

I lost 60 lbs on Weight Watchers. I started in March 2002 and had lost it by October 2002. Since then I gained back 10 lbs. I am sooooo sick of WW. It was a very effective program, but I just could not face going back to those meetings and counting points again.

My mom lost 30 lbs on Atkins so I decided to give it a try.

Sugar free jello and whipped cream sounds great!

I've read the Atkins book, bought a scale and have been trying to wean myself from carbs for the last few days. I'm actually excited about starting this diet!! (A first!!) I hope my first day goes as well as yours did, Simba.

I must say I've been lurking here on the WISH board for the last few weeks and have been very inspired by so many of your stories. I've only posted on Disney topics before so this is my first WISH post.

We're going to WDW in May and my goal is to feel comfortable enough in a bathing suit to really enjoy Blizzard Beach with my kids!!

Wish me luck tomorrow!!

I'm starting tomorrow. It's going to be very hard to give up soda.:( Other than that, I'm looking forward to doing this. I've seen so many outfits I want to buy, but I refuse to get them until the weight is gone.

One of the teachers I work with saw me reading the book. After asking me about it, she took it upon herself to let several other teachers know what I was about to do. Of course they all felt the need to let me know why it WILL NOT work.

I can not wait to prove them wrong.:bounce: :Pinkbounc

disneyjunkie----I ran into the same problem with a good friend who believes the food pyramid was designed to meet the nutritional needs of every human and we shouldn't challenge it.

It's about a year later and her husband is now on Atkins. She still won't try it.

.....still sticking with induction foods. DH started 11/16 and I started 11/28 after Thanksgiving - when I saw DH 'make' it thru the holoiday without difficulty, I decided I could, too.:jester:

I guess my biggest challenge is understanding the carb count in veggies......and estimating daily total carbs (I just bought the little carb bok, started reading last night!)......because in induction, it is not so much about counting the veggies but getting a jump start on ketosis and weight loss..

...and I am counting my 'start' date when I bought a scale last Wed. 12/31 as I could only estimate about a 15 lb. weight loss in the past month........so yes, I guess I am still in induction:wave2: !

My son and I start on Wednesday because today is his birthday and we have to get this JUNK out of here first!

I've just about read everything I could get my hands on. I've very good as long as I know WHY it works so educating myself will be a plus. So far everything I've read makes good sense. My only concern, like sha_lyn's, is my recurring IBS and how it will affect it. Hopefully I'll get better!

When I told Michael what we'll be eating he was shocked. We've never been big meat eaters so this is a shock to us. He's just thrilled that he'll be able to eat cheese!

Just lost a long post. Lets try this again...

My IBS is usually constipation and water retension, so I think adding an extra cup of high fiber veggies, and 3 TBS of flax seed will help with that.

If the high fat low fiber of Atkins agravates your IBS try the south beach diet instead. It is higher fiber and lower fat than Atkins. My slight modificaitons to Atkins puts it pretty close to South beach I believe.

Thanks for the advice, sha_lyn!

My IBS gets much better with every salad and glass of water, though. I swear if I go on a binge my body suffers for it!

I'm doing research on both diets so I'll see how it works also!
