Any other families planning for a furlough?

DH is upper management, so it is at minimum dress pants, collared shirt and tie. Tomorrow he has to brief a General, so he has to wear a full suit. It is in the 80s here this week. :scared:

I am sure the General won't be very happy either. :(

Well, I started this thread, but now it's looking like DH will be exempted. I also have a possible line on a job for next year after my contract ends in August. My college aged kids are very relieved, as are we!:) Added bonus is that we've been saving extra money the last few months.

Good luck to all the people that are still facing furloughs!

That's WONDERFUL news! :goodvibes

We received notice this past week that we will begin our furlough the week of July 8 and it will last one day a week for 11 weeks. As a result I am taking on a part time job. I am training to be a travel agent who specializes in Disney. ;) I plan trips for people at work all the time so I figured I might as well get paid for it and this seemed as good a time as any to start.

Not yet. DH will start in June. Received word yesterday that the buildings on base that do not have windows that can open will have the temperature controlled to 78 degrees through Sept. 30. The buildings that do have windows that can open will not be allowed to run ANY air conditioning whatsoever. Utterly ridiculous.

I have been told unofficially that we will begin this soon also. The AC set to 78 degrees part. We live in South MS so there is no way they can say no AC, our computers would all crash from the heat and humidity. As it is we are concerned about the computer labs. But this is NASA doings not the DoD. NASA is trying to save $$ so they don't have to do a furlough. They have already cut a lot of contractors.

I won't be surprised at all if ours starts July 8 also, because God forbid they get a 4 day weekend over July 4th! They have been told they will be off every Friday. :headache::mad::confused3:crazy2::sad:

We still do not have official word yet. Though DH did say he looked at a furlough calculator. I almost cried. LOL... this is gonna be a rough summer.

We cancelled cable in an effort to reduce our bills. I thought it would be hard but we are doing just fine with it. I will see how I feel about that when Big Brother comes back on though.

We are having a town hall meeting to discuss the furlough impacts to us(federal employees). We will be starting furloughs as some stated on July 8 for 11 days (6 pay periods). Given the fact of this impact, I pre-paid both of my kids daycare/summer camps so that we won't be in rough shape due to pay check shrinking. I will have every Friday off with a 20% pay cut. It sucks but it's manageable for my family since our childcare runs about $1500.00 a month. There is still talk that if Congress allows DoD more flexibility that the number of furlough days would be reduced again. Time will tell....

I don;t know if anyone here listens to Mike Causey on fed news radio...But a few weeks back he had a guest speaker on, and she said that this is just the beginning of a 10 year plan....:confused3

It might get worse, and they still haven;t decided ona budget for next year, and they are talking CR.....

Of course they are talking CR... AGAIN!

It's easy to kick the can further down the road and worry about it later.. It's hard to make decisions now.

I received a union news letter yesterday that said if they don't put a stop to this it's going to last till 2021.

This is such a nightmare....

So far, we have not been allowed to fund or contractors past March 27. Right now, they will be on the street come March 28 unless they lift the restriction!

Washington (all of them) really love the game of poker. It's just that WE are the losers. :confused3

I asked my husband who will be teaching his class on Fridays and he said contractors!

If they would cut the waste and use some common sense...........

You know you can be whipped with a wet noodle for saying those words (common sense)
Lol

I don't want to get into a political debate on the boards, but the problem is who determines what is "waste"? What might be government waste to one person maybe a necessity to someone else. I think both sides agree that we need to cut spending, but no one wants cuts made to "their" programs. So instead we get these "across the board" cuts. :(

I don't think anyone is disagreeing your point but if your agency is told how and where to spend the waste may continue on things that aren't necessities

My agency gave out notices today. 11 days beginning July 8 through end of fiscal year. They had a choice of Monday or Friday.

DH received his yesterday. 11 days starting July 8th. But they get to choose the day they get off as long as there is always someone in the office. One guy chose Tuesdays since that is the day his wife has off. DH is thinking of taking Wednesdays.

DH's letter should be given tomorrow for the July 8 start. He was told that his employees should be "strongly encouraged" to take every Friday off.

I called Disney yesterday and found out that we had the latest FD PIN, so I was able to apply it to our trip in October. I could see the weight lift off of his shoulders when I told him the news. One less thing to stress over. :goodvibes

Well, DH wasn't given any official notice yet, but w/ all the recent posts, maybe it will be coming soon?

The timing is really bad, as we really need a new car, and DD18 will be starting college this fall. Typical.

We will not be getting the awnings for the house I have wanted for years. :(
I wanted to take a family vacation before DD started college, but that is out. :(
New mattress/bed is out, newer car, carpet for family room, no more dining out, no $$ summer activities for kids. :(

Nothing devastating, just disappointing. We've survived worse.

DH just called and they should be getting official notice within the week. Supposedly they will be off on Fridays.
