our 2 princesses: I know women can ovulate late in their cycle - it varies for everyone. But, I think no matter when you ovulate, you will get AF about 14 days after. So, ovulating late may mean a longer cycle and later period - but it could happen. I could be wrong....but remember reading this somewhere!
From what I understand that isn't entirely correct. The luteal phase (after ovulation) can be about 14 days but it can be less than that. From what I read it needs at least 10 dpo before AF comes to make sure a pregnancy would stick. Anything shorter than 10dpo, would mean that a pregnancy possibly will not happen. One thing I did read is that the luteal phase doesn't seem to vary as much w/in a person... the time between day 1 of cycle and ovulation can vary more. Most women do have their luteal phase between 10-16 days.
That all said, if I didn't get pregnant by the end of the year, my doctor was going to run blood tests to check on everything to make sure I was ovulating and all that "correctly" I know you can chart, but this was her sure fire way of telling what was going on.

Becky, I hope I don't have issues either. Of course people keep saying morning sickness is a sign of a healthy pregnancy. I just take it to mean I hate throwing up and refuse to ;) I actually seem to be able to push off the whole nauseaus feeling quite well in general. I just keep hoping that as long as I eat little bits through the day, I won't feel it so bad. I had one Sunday where it was awful and I stayed in bed all day, but nothing really horrid since. Then again, there is a small number of foods I feel like I can eat now, so I am sure that has a lot to do with it too. Considering I'll be 8 weeks on Saturday, I'm kind of feeling this is more or less it for me.

I am so laughing at the little brown bikini!!! Wear that often :teeth: Oh and good luck with the whole TTC talk. I have found that men in general are much more afraid to have kids than women. I don't think they ever feel that push the way some women do.

As for the whole BD thing... I wish I could tell you what worked for us. I apparently ovulated early due to me being stressed (my period always shortens when I am... it's a curse I swear) by about 4-5 days. We hardly did any BD and it would have been the day before I O'd. My doc always suggested doing it every other day with BDing on teh day you O'd. If that makes sense...

Carla, have you found out when your first u/s is?

Anyways, back to my question - I feel like I am ovulating late in my cycle. I should be starting my period in 6-7 days yet feel because of ewcm that I could be ovulating now. I have used those ovulation kits but I can never seem to get them to work for me?? So, how late is too late to ovulate in your cycle and still get pregnant? I cannot seem to find much info about that question on the net.

Conventional wisdom (and what many ob/gyn will tell you) is that every woman has 14 days between when you O and when AF shows up. And for most women, that's true, so if you O later than usual one month, it probably means AF will show up later.
Reality is that some women have a shorter time - like me - between O and AF (called the luteal phase - I think I have the spelling right on that). The shorter time could(but not necessarily) mean that a fertilized egg doesn't have time to implant before AF arrives, so if a dr. diagnoses it, it's easily "fixable" with progesterone. My luteal phase varies from 9 to 12 days each month, so if I don't get a BFP in the next 6-8 months (and we've been BD around O time regularly), then my dr. will (hopefully) prescribe the progesterone to help with that.

Hope that helps!

So....update on me....another 97.3 for me this morning. Where is my temp spike? I am waiting to o!!

Still none? If I remember right, your cycle is just a little ahead of mine. Have you tried a home opk? I'm sure you're checking your temp at the same time each day, but it may not work for some women. Just be sure to bd anyway!

Elaine...thank you for clarifying that info on o and AF coming. I am still new to all of this, so am not always sure I have all the facts right! ;)

Kelly - yes, I have been using an OPK. The last 5 days I have barely seen the line on the left. Today, I just took one, and the line on the left was much stronger - but not as quite as strong as the baseline line. I have had a major increase in EWCF - so maybe tonight/tomorrow will be it!! We have been bd'ing every-other day, and tonight is our night - so I think we will bd tomorrow night just in case! I think DH is feeling a bit overwhelmed with all this bd'ing!!

Thank you everyone for explaining the luteal phase better for me. So, just one more question about this subject, please... Last time I was pregnant, I miscarried at 9 weeks but the baby had stopped growing at 5 1/2 weeks. Does that mean it could have been a low progesterone problem (if I am having a short luteal phase) or wouldn't I have been able to sustain a pregnancy for 5 1/2 weeks? Hope that question makes sense. I am so super paranoid about everything now that I am older. Whenever I read anything on the internet, I feel like I am 80 years old and trying to conceive. I feel like times is running out on me!! :guilty:
Thank you again everyone!

Please someone correct me if I am wrong. I am under the impression when a baby dies in utero it is often because of a chromosomal problem, and not low progesterone.

I know what you mean.

Does anyone else's DH's feel way overwhelmed? I thought my DH would be so excited to BDing all the time, but instead I think I have scared him off! It's too planned and so much pressure for him. I think my last cycle was really hard for us since it was the first time TTC since the m/c, and one night it was really hard for him just to BD at all so we couldn't and we missed a prime night :sad2: . How do you girls do it? I need some pointers because I am almost done with AF and I need to get him back into this.

Also, someone told me saliva kills sperm, so we tried not to have OS but that made things WAY more difficult for him, but I know the first time I got pregnant we did have OS. (sorry if TMI)

Help!!!

Yes, Denae I do believe you are right but just wanted to cover all the bases. Your girls are adorable by the way. How old are they? One of ours just turned 7 and the other one is almost 11. Where does time go? Isn't it great having girls? :)

Glad to help out on the cycle stuff. I quit my job over a year ago and like to read stuff like this. I'm a wealth of "useless information" ;)

As for the low progesterone and causing a miscarriage. I don't know enough about that to say one way or another. I'd ask the doctor to make sure and they can test for that if you are fearing that. From all I've read, it does make the pregnancy not as viable, but in reality the low progesterone in most cases is a symptom of miscarriage, not a cause. There are exceptions to this of course, but that was all I read. Usually if a fetus stops growing it just means there was a choromosomal abnormality... nothing else. And everything I have read (I was big on reading about that when I thought I was miscarrying) shows that one miscarriage is not considered anything bad when it comes to TTC again (if that makes sense). It happens a lot, and not considered a worry unless it is reocurring.

Of course take this all from a chick who got it off the internet reading while lazing in bed :p I would think that if you are concerned you can talk to your doctor about it all.

Wish I could help with the DHs not wanting to BD. That is never a problem for mine  Of course he didn't know near as much about my cycle as I did so I am not sure he was even paying attention to when we did or didn't. But we've always had a healthy sex life so this was easy on him ;) I have no clue on the saliva though... learn something new here every day :teeth:

I think in general, the idea of having fun while trying to make a baby is the biggest thing. Don't make it out to be work for him. Granted my husband is *very* easy to seduce, so it wasn't near of an issue. But I have heard making it fun... taking it to different rooms of the house and just bringing the love back into it makes for better results anyway... less stress and more natural "secretions" when you aren't just doing it to do it.

 Hi all!

Carla YAY for the great numbers!! I'm so overwhelmingly happy for you.

Elaine thanks for the info on weight loss. I had great success on Weight Watchers before but when I went off of the plan I gained all the weight back :( So this time I'm just trying to eat correctly and control my portions. I'm also trying to exercise.

I started at weight 245 and when I weighed this morning I was at 238.6 Just 18.6 more pounds to go before my doc will start the next round of IVF.

Thank goodness so many of you can answer the BD'ing and AF cycle questions. Since I don't have to deal with that anymore I've forgotten about counting days.

Good luck to all the 2ww's and those TTC.

Thanks! :goodvibes Hannah is 7 and Emily is 6. They were born so close together that they are in the same grade in school. Don't ask me how I did it, because the entire time before they were 3 and 4 is a blur of sleep deprivation and dirty diapers. They are a lot of fun, and I am so glad I have two girls. They are best friends, wear the same size clothes, are interested in the same activities and same friends - which makes it easier for us. We have often thought of trying for a boy, but I think we have decided it's a no go. We don't want to press our luck, and we are pretty content with our family now.

Welcome to the thread! And good luck to you.

I have heard the same thing about saliva!!

So...question....are OPK's always right? Could you have lots of EWCV, but not be O'ing? :confused3

Yep, my DH is overwhelmed with it all, too. He just doesn't want to know anything about my cycle, and would really like it if we could just BD one time without BC and that would be it. He hates the planned part and definitely feels like he's under pressure, so that makes it no fun for him. Some of it is his health issues, and he already feels bad about that so adding TTC on top of it makes him grumpier than usual. Like others have said, I'm just trying to bring the fun back into it (bring on the brown bikini! :teeth: ) and I've stopped telling him anything about my cycle except when AF arrives.

Your girls look very similar! Mine are 4 years apart but because the first-born is very petite and the "baby" is very tall, they look maybe 2 years apart. My husband and I wanted the third baby to be a girl. i don't think we'd know what to do with a boy. Even our pet bunny is a girl!!

I know! Anything you read whether in books or on the internet makes you feel like a sr. citizen!! I have turned into a real worry-wart this time around. Hope everything turns out well with you :)

Good evening girls! :) I'm still new to learning about my cycle since this is my first month charting. I'm on CD 12 & I think I have EWCM this evening - can someone out there tell me - do you normally have this for just one day & then O, or should I have this for a couple of days & not O until Sat, or Sun...

So confused this evening - any advice would be greatly appreciated!! :goodvibes

arizona...I had EWCM for about 3 days and then my temp spiked.

But I have another question for those of you that have been temp'ing in the past....

I had a huge spike this morning in my temp. :cheer2: Does that mean that I probably O'd yesterday?? Or does that mean I am O'ing today? I don't know when to start counting DPO? Would today be 1 DPO?

Thanks for your help!! :thumbsup2

This also happened with dh and I. After TTC for 10 months it became more of a "chore" than anything else. So just last month we took a "break." I told dh we were taking the month off and would start trying again the next month. I still watched the signs for impending O days, but not as diligently. There was so much more spontaneity than usual.....and I think it might have paid off!

I'm trying to contain my excitement, but after AF did not show up on her regular day (I always get AF 16 days after O)....and after taking 3 pregnancy tests.....I think I am finally pregnant! Everytimt I use the bathroom I check to see if AF is there.....even after the positive pregnancy tests. I am very skeptical at this point.....seems like it can't be true. Although I do have many signs of pregnancy at this point.....extremely tender in certain areas, little waves of lightheadedness.....My SIL thought she was pregnant only to find out at 8 weeks that she had a cyst....plus it is so early...so I am trying to hold out on the extreme excitement until my 8 week appt.

I had just posted for the 1st time on this thread on 10/14 and asked for some Pixie Dust....so I think it has paid off!! Thank you to all!! :Pinkbounc

Cari - pregnancy tests are VERY reliable. If you have had three BFP's, then you are PG! Congrats! :cheer2:
