Any one use essential oils?

I figure I will try asking this question on this thread since it is related to EO.

I have a body spray I buy called "Alive and Energize." It comes in a 4oz bottle for $15. I would like to try and make it since it seems pricey to me.

The ingredients are witch hazel, lavender hydrosol, aloe, EO: peppermint, lavender, sage, rosemary.

I have everything except the lavender hydrosol. The problem is that I don't have a clue how much to use of each ingredients. I don't want to waste a bunch of product. Any guesses as how I can replicate this spray?

you can leave out the hydrosol or the glycerine in this recipe. I have seen recipes that just use alcohol or witch hazel aloe and water, with the eo's
I would probably do 10 drops of each to start then adjust.

this blog always has great ideas and recipes

It's not that the oils are toxic it's if they are not pure. So many low grade oils have impurities that's why you have to be absolutely certain the oils you use internally are pure and tested.
The oil you might find at cvs is not going to be the same quality you get from say DoTerra or Young Living

Any essential oil can indeed be toxic if it isn't used with caution. Yes, they have many benefits for health, skin care etc, but just because they are 'natural' doesn't mean they are safe in all circumstances. I'm not knocking the use of oils. Quite the opposite, I use them every day for a wide range of things, from skin care, cleaning, health etc...I'm just saying, I don't think anyone should be ingesting any oil without professional advice.

So do I need to tell my mother to be careful using the frankincense directly on her skin? Should she be mixing it with something first (and if so, what)? :confused3

The woman on TV was dabbing it onto a cotton ball from the bottle and then right onto her face for the dark spot treatment, so I just assumed it was safe to do that (which is what I told my mom).

I think one or two neat drops on the face with Frankincense should be ok. When I say don't put it direct on the skin, that's the general rule for using oils since they do get absorbed through the skin, like anything else we put on our skin...I'd be more careful with children, babies and pets...

I have used oils on my daughter since she was a baby. She was born extremely preemie and we were told to expect a lot of respiratory problems with her. I would massage her twice a day with lavender and chamomile diluted in almond oil. I swear, this is one reason she is healthy today, no respiratory issues at all and she rarely gets sick...I love my oils, I do however use them with caution. I also burn them in a vaporiser every day.

I am always making up blends for my work mates and friends. They are magic in a bottle :thumbsup2

Yes I guess I worded my response badly. We do have to use common sense and know how to use an oil properly.and you are right natural does not mean don't use caution.
We all have to educate ourselves on any type of therapy we use whether it is traditional medicine or alternative treatments of any kind.
There are lots of resources out there.
I personally would never ingest an oil that was not strictly tested for purity.
I also use oils every day.

I use essential oils and I feel that these oils are the best remedy for physical , emotional and mental health. This will help us to get relief from any type of pain and disorder. The oils like rosemary and lavender are good for the skin and also cherish the mood. I think essential oil provides total health benefits. I use the website useessentialoil.com to get more updated in this area.

Thanks to the OP for this thread and those that contributed.

Our whole family was coming down with some sort of upper respiratory thing. I think I was heading towards a sinus infection. After reading this thread, I bought some essential oils and I think it really helped us all!

I used the oil of oregano on our feet before bedtime. The kids joked that they smelled like lasagna but they went with it. After a few nights our symptoms were almost gone. I have a little bit of a cough now and then. That's all. I used eucalyptus oil in steamy water. That was so soothing. Lastly I drank a lot of peppermint tea. Maybe it was the combination of things for me, but I feel a lot better!

Thanks again to all!
