Hi, Flo. Sorry to hear about your mom. I hope the doctor can get her a med that will help with her problems. I'm sending her and you some extra prayers and a :grouphug: .

Yesterday was three weeks that my mom has been in the hospital. I'm so lucky I work for a great lady, as I've been able to run over to the hospital a lot. The good news is that her cancer has not metastazized. I got an early morning call two weeks ago tomorrow from the doctor that they found that she had a compressed fracture compressing her spine. They also found that she had a mild stroke sometime recently. The neurosurgeon evaluated her and said she was a poor candidate for surgery (because of her overall health) but they decided to try the surgery since it was her only hope to walk again. First they decided to take her to radiology to have a filter inserted to catch any more blood clots (she already had two in her lungs), then to surgery. It all happened quickly -- in fact, my Dad didn't make it to the hospital until she had already been taken in for the filter. I was packed for our annual trip to San Antonio for Sea World, so I went ahead and sent Randy down there with the kids. The right decision, but it left me feeling all alone for the long weekend. She came through the surgery great, then spent a week in ICU. My dad and I took turns spending the night at the hotel in the hospital while she was in ICU. She's now on a regular floor. She's asking for so many pain killers (she takes pain killers for sinus infections and has no pain tolerance) that she hasn't made much progress. I finally was able to straighten out some problems yesterday and she should stop hallucinating now and hopefully start participating in her PT.

Andrew, my oldest, who I THOUGHT was fairly responsible, shot himself in the eye with a NERF gun on Sunday, so after going to our ER in Kaufman, they sent him to Children's in Dallas. I was already at Presby in Dallas with mom, so I ran over there to be with him. Luckily, he didn't permanently damage his eye.

I have definitely had enough trauma lately! I have to say I have renewed respect for nurses. My mom has been very difficult, but she's had great nurses who have been very patient.

Oh, did I tell you one of my assistant's quit by voice-mail on Sunday? She had too much stress in her life and needed to make some changes.

Through all of this I've done pretty well. (Other than the night they had to call me to come back to the ICU after visiting hours.... that's a story for it's own post sometime!) I'm tired and don't even ask what my house looks like, as I pretty much fall in to bed when I get home, but I still have my mom, two wonderful kids and a fantastic husband. My DIS family has also helped a lot! Especially the people on the DDA thread and on this one. I'm a lucky girl!

Any updates on the other mom's with health problems?

Have a great day, everyone, and thanks for "listening."

Flo...sorry to hear about your mom. Have you ever considered a chiropractor??? It may be just another option, but a good one will tell you if he can't help her. If he can, she may not have to be on many meds.

Marci...you poor thing! I am so sorry to hear about ALL the negative and stress in your life. But knowing you, you are finding the blessings in the situations. We will continue to send up those prayers and pixie dust!
Is Andrew doing okay??? Even the responsible ones mess up now and again! Keep your faith in him!

When things do settle down for you, you must think about a bit of time away with the girls!!!!

By the way, you have "In Loving Memory of June" I missed that earlier...who is it in reference to??

Here is a bit of Pixie Dust to all that things go well. Jen...how is the pool?????

Aloha to All!

I was just wondering how everyone was doing and was glad to see you all still chatting :sunny:

Tif: The pool is great! Still no solar yet but since its been 90's here lately the water is nice. At least it is working. Jaclyn must go in 4x a day...truly a mermaid.

Since Jackie started preschool I've been more busy at the office. I sure miss staying home with Jackie but its nice to be back in the flow of things at work....but I still spend too much time on these boards and planning our next trips to WDW.

I was getting really excited about our March cruise and then we found out that Justin's 3rd grade luau in on the Friday before we were supposed to leave and then Jonathan's 5th grade camp is the following week after that.......soooo........ .....looks like I'm gonna have to cancel it :sad2: :sad2: :sad2: So bummed about it....got such a good price for a cat. 4...oh well.

At least we are for sure going to WDW this December.

Hope all the Moms are feeling better :grouphug:

Jen :sunny:

Marci,
:wizard: to you for Keepping the fairth. :sunny: Hope Andrew's eys is ok. Hope everything gets better for you. :grouphug:

Jen, Sorry you may have to cancel your cruise. Looks like you will be quite busy though. ;)

Take care everyone.

I finally caught up with reading all the posts on the board. I'm sorry I didn't do it earlier. Marci - I'm so sorry to hear about your mom and andrew - I hope his eye is ok. You must be feeling so overwhelmed. I'm sending thoughts of peace and happiness your way. Helen - where was Dave diving? sharm el sheikh? If so, thats Marks dream. (my DH). He wants me to learn to dive so we can take a trip together - but I have to admit I'm nervous about it. Do you dive? As Jif's #1 fan - I would be happy to send some to the UK for you if you like - the reduced fat tastes very good and is only 2 pts - Jen - I'm sorry you won't be able to go on your cruise - thats disappointing - but we do all kinds of things as moms for our kids - to be there for those important school activites. The pictures of your pool are beautiful. What fun the kids must be having. Flo - I hope your mom starts feeling better. Have you taken your son back to college yet? I took danielle back labor day weekend - she's having a hard adjustment this time. She sent her dad a text message at 4:33 am asking him if she was having a heart attack because her arm hurt. This is after several "do you think I have cancer" phone calls. I'm not sure about how to handle all this - I wish I knew what was causing her such anxiety. I guess just having to move closer to adulthood. Have you had to go through anything like this with your son? (or something like it). Tif - I'm glad you and tom enjoyed your cruise. I'm sorry I missed the part about the fact that you were going to go, Your offer is very generous and I'm in if there is still an offer. When is homecoming? She must be soo excited. Valerie & Carla - how are things? hectic I'm sure - I sure hope I didn't leave someone out - I just got so far behind - I have to admit that since July 22 - I've only been home for 4 days (prior to this last week). I keep thinking about everyone and hope you all are well. Take care.

Hi all

Marci & Flo I hope your mom's are doing better, IM sending my prayers for them. My mam still has not got any movement in her arm and we are waiting a consult from the upper limb specialist. She does not reckon she is going to get back to work and is understandibly worried and down.

Its my mams 60th birthday on Friday and I am hosting a big party @ mine on Saturday. So I will be cooking a lot. I dont know how I am going to fit everyone in.

Well Dave went on Friday - yes Lisa he has gone to sharm, well he is on a live abord boat for the week. He had a list of jobs to get done before he went and I was getting quite cross (PMT) as I found he hadn't done some when there was a knock @ the door. A florist brought a huge boquet of flowers with a touching note, so he was forgiven. Lisa I would love to dive but unfortunaly Im not allowed to because of my back.

I am having a bit of a hard time at the mo. one of my best friends has just had a baby boy last week and my other friend told me she was pregnant. I am really happy for them, but its really hard for me. My gynea has refrerred me to the hospital that specialises in Endometriosis and hopefully I should get to see the consultant before Christmas. Please think of me.

Any way IM back at work - Carla I know I should finish my trip report, but I am finding it difficult. I have scrapped 3 versions - I think I just dont want to acknowledge the end of the cruise.

Oh well the dogs are barking - better go to see what they are up to.

Take care all

H xx

PS Lisa I did not know you could get reduced fat Jif

Helen, how sweet of Dave. :sunny: Good luck with the party, let us know how it went. ;)

Marci, Helen, and Flo pixiedust: for Moms. My mom is doing so well! She is losing her hair from the radiation but is back to eating, talking and of course doing anything and everything for us. Thank goodness! Helen, it's my mom's 60th next month as well and I'm not sure what I am going to do for her. She deserves a lot!

As for me, I have a very challenging class this year, actually one very challenging boy who needs lots of planning ahead and I am not very good at that. So I spend my Saturdays at school planning and planning and planning.
My two college courses are getting tough too and to top it off, the new TV shows are coming on (I am a TVaholic!) :happytv:
Nicholas and Nolan have started baseball and are doing very well. They send their thoughts to Andrew and miss all their friends from the cruise.
I have also started going to the chiropractor (I'm a first timer) three times a week and it is helping so much! I found out I have what's called a "spondy" which is a nickname for a cracked vertabrae (sp?). It probably happened to me when I was little or it's hereditary. But I guess it's treatable because the Dr. jumping on top of me and making these horrible cracking noises seems to be helping. :rotfl2:
A girls meet would be so fun but I'm on the Pacific side and probably can't afford to go to Florida again but maybe we can have a conference call or something fun like that. But we can plan for years from now. Remember, I am good at planning!

Hey guys!

Tif -- June was a wonderful lady on our DDA thread on the DISigns board. She had been a regular poster with us, and had been sick for quite a while -- colds and then pneumonia. She went on a short vacation with her family and got sick while there. They put her in the hospital and found out she had lung cancer. She died within two weeks. She was so kind and generous to her kids and grandkids, and just an all-around nice person. The flower is in her memory. I hope you will post pictures of the homecoming dance.

Valerie -- June was a huge goofy fan. She had a picture of her with the goofy bench in front of Exposition Hall at the MK. All of the DDA people had started having their picture made in front of the bench, and posting them for everyone to enjoy. I had mine taken before the cruise. Now, we are trying to figure out how to honor June's memory, incorporating the bench.

I'm glad the chiropractor is helping you. Sounds like Nicholas and Nolan are off to a good start with baseball. Good luck and patience to you with the little boy in your class. I hope your own classes go well, too. Happy Birthday to your mom -- I hope she continues doing well!

Helen -- continuing prayers for your mom, and sending some to you for the specialist appointment. Hooray for Dave for sending flowers! Good luck with the party. My parents are the same age and have birthday's within two months, so we threw them a surprise 60th party between their two big days.

Lisa -- I'm sending prayers and PD to Danielle. I hope school and the separation get easier for her. That has to be hard to get those kinds of calls/messages.

Hi, Flo. Yes, Andrew's eye is much better. We went back for the follow-up on Friday and he pronounced the eye healed. He is one lucky little boy!

Jen -- sorry you are going to have to cancel the cruise. I hope Jackie is enjoying preschool.

Have a great week, everyone!

Valerie - I missed that your mom has cancer. I'm so sorry. I really hope she is doing better. My mom had breast cancer so I know how much everyone is going through with their moms - especially when the moms turn 60. My mom turned 60 last November. I took her to Atlantis offseason for 4 days for her birthday. She had seen it on Oprah - anyway she loved it and we had a good time. Good luck with your classes. Teaching and taking classes and having tough students and a mom who needs extra time and attention sure are draining. :sunny: sending good thoughts your way.

Lisa - Thanks for the nice thoughts. My mom luckily does not have cancer. She had this really strange rare cell sitting on the nerve going to her tongue and it was imbedded in the corroded artery wall. So they tried to remove it at UCLA (thank goodness we live close) and they only got half of it. Because it spreads like cancer they decided to treat it like cancer with radiation. They almost did chemo but didn't. So she's much better now and the ironic thing is that she is thinner than she has ever been before which makes her feel much better.
Off to work I go......hopefully my lovely student won't have a tantrum today! :teacher:

Valerie

PS - All those who remember Nicholas' scorpion getting out - now his hissing cockroach is gone - Lovely!! :furious:

A hissing cockroach???? EEWWW!!! Good luck in finding it! Where would it go, or do we want to know???

We are getting ready for a soccer game for Alec. Talk with all soon. More pixie dust for all moms!!!

Oh...asking for pixie dust for us. You know the DCL commercial where they say "Mom and Dad's little souvenier...." well, we are way past the time I should have started. In fact, on the ship I took a test and it registered as a negative. Since then, I have had a couple more negatives...but still haven't started. Yes, would would be grateful but...well, turning 40 is not such a great time to START with a new one. Remember, Tom is 7.5 years older than me! We are definitely worried.

Best of days all!
tif

Oh Boy Tif! Are you going to be doing the next comercial? :wizard: :wizard:
Best of luck with what ever happens.

flo

Valerie.....I don't even want to know what a hissing roach looks like

We have some big roaches here...tropical warm climate makes things grow big....we call the roaches here 747 since they like to fly at you!

Tif..keep us posted!

Jen

ditto the "hissing cockroach??!!" comments. I don't know how you do it with all the creatures in your house. Does this collection also include a snake or a big hairy spider?

Tif- good luck with however things turn out.

Good morning to all :sunny:

Thanks guys!!!

747 is an awesome psuedonym!-forgive misspellings please! We tease people here in Illinois. They complain when they see a roach...not a pet kind...we tell them how the bugs here die in the winter. In Florida they just keep growing and growing!!! We put the bug barrier thing into the house when we built...and I have a bug service every month...even when we aren't there! Very bug phobic!!! Someone also recommended putting Bounce sheets in cabinets, around windows and doors when going to be gone for extended periods. It supposedly keeps out spiders, and ants, and other crawlies! So far, the combo seems to be working!!!

Have a great day all! Jen, take a break out by the pool with Jaclyn for us! :sunny: The midwest is currently COLD! Abby has a tournament today that will have me frozen!

Bye for now!

Tif -- sending PD your way! :wizard: :wizard:

Hope Abby does well in the tournament

Have a great day everyone! :sunny: :sunny:

Good Morning! I'll spare you a pic of the lovely creature. We do have lots of creatures (2 scorpions, a gecko lizard and lots of crickets). No sign of our missing pet.

Jen- Nicholas wants to go to Hawaii so bad because he has heard about the ones there. He's been trying to get Carla's girls to send him a dead one from Georgia. I told him it was against the law. :confused3 Could be true?? So we'll have to come visit you!

Tif - We can't even mention the word exterminator because Nicholas thinks they are evil! We do have a bit of a black widow problem. We've caught and studied lots of those. So I am going to call a you know what and have him come while we are at school!

Have a great day everyone!
Valerie
