Any one here belong to a country club?

I joined one of the two clubs on my island. Only $1000 a year since I am under 25. I play at least once a week and free range balls and pool use make it worth it for me. It is a course than anyone can play at but its price is pretty steep, mostly for vacationers. Carambola Golf Course on St. Croix if anyone wants to look it up.

Sorry to hijack the thread but I have to ask someone....

I have been invited to an evening Wedding Reception at a Country Club, in Sept, in NJ (near NYC). One of the boys I nannied for got married a few weeks ago in Mexico. When I worked for the family they didn't belong so I have never been.

What to wear to "fit" in? I don't want to look like a poor country girl, even if I am. :rotfl: I am thinking I have to wear a little black dress or cocktail dress. Is this the usual?

I haven't seen my "family" in a few years and I want to impress.:lovestruc

TIA!!!

Simple black dress works. It's the accessories that will dress it up more or less. If you're worried about how fancy it is, just take an extra necklace and earrings in your purse.

PinkRhombus is right. Dress up your black dress with accessories. A black dress is always in fashion.

I was at our CC today. It costs $100 per year per child for my kids to golf. Jr. Golf ended today with a free buffet for the kids and adults and awards for all the kids who participated.

The thing I like about our club is the activities. There is no where locally that we can go out to dinner and dance. There are a number of dinner dances each year. Some are black tie, others aren't. There is a luau this weekend around the pool and lobsterfest is in a week... all you can eat lobster for $65 per person. YUMMY!

We go to the Kentucky Derby party on the first Saturday in May. All of the women wear their hats and we drink mint juleps. There is also a Jimmy Buffett party during the summer and a mid-winter casual party and a fourth of July party with fireworks for the whole family.

We know a lot of the members and make new friends at each event. We aren't members for the exclusivity, but because DH golfs 4-5 times per week and it feels like home when we go there. During the winter, he goes to the men's clubhouse to watch football, basketball, etc., and smoke a cigar. He can't do that in our house or in any other local bar.

We take my kids' friends with us sometimes, especially to the pool in the summer. The kids really do get a kick out of giving our number at the snack shack instead of having to ask me for money. My 5 yo neice calls the pool a water park since there is a slide and other water things in the shallow end.

Send your kids with their friends. Find out if there is a dress code because you don't want your kids to be embarrassed if they can't do something the host wanted because of the dress code. If anyone has a problem with your kids being there, it's their problem and NOT yours. Members bring guests all the time.

Thanks for the tips! LOVE the idea of of extra jewerly in case.
