I live in the portland Oregon area and am planning on my first trip to WDW in Nov 2015 to run in the Wine and Dine 1/2 marathon. As a reward for my hard work my husband and son will come with me and make it a family vacation. I love to plan my DL trips far in advance so I'm starting now so I can budget the trip because I'll also be running in the Tinkerbell 1/2 marathon in DL just 6 months before the WDW trip woohoo!!! Let the panning begin. So I was looking into flights to get budget ideas and noticed that there are no direct flights from PDX that I could find and the flights that I did find where around 9 hours with 1 stop... Yuck. I would like to see what other people did that live in Oregon.

I live in Eugene Oregon and am flying

PDX to Denver to Orlando we leave at 545am and land at Orlando just after 4

Orlando to San Francisco to Eugene we leave about 6pm and land in Eugene about midnight

First off congrats on the runner(also a runner)

Second you are correct about a non direct flight. I found flights either to Salt Lake, New York, Texas and Denver.

My biggest thing with flights was land time going and take off coming home. I could have saved a bit of money by taking a longer layover going to WDW but it landed after 6pm. I could have also flown a red eye into WDW but I didn't know how the family would take it. It landed at 10am on Friday(the day we are now flying out) now if we landed at 10am and our room was not ready until 4 and we wanted a nap/change/etc then what.

As for coming home again we could have saved a bit by going earlier but the airfare is about 1/3 the budget so we opted for the last plane out. For you it may not effect you but for us we had to do 2 1 way flights as PDX was best going but to land at midnight and then drive 2 hours was not what I wanted to do. So we opted for Eugene which was a small amount more but if you add in a car it saved us money.

Lastly since you are in Portland I would look at SeaTac for flights out if possible. May be a better time/cost. Can do like we did and do that out and PDX home.

I looked at Kayak for the dates we fly and out of Sea Tac Alaska does a direct flight to Orlando with an 8am out and 425pm landing and it is $528

1 stop out each way out of Sea Tac is $418

1 stop out each way out of PDX is $387

We live in Portland and fly to WDW almost every year. Delta usually has the most flight choices, changing planes in Atlanta. Their prices are high if you book too far out, and they're also prone to changing flights/times. We've also flown Southwest quite a bit. Regardless of airline, our flights are usually around 7 hours with layover.

Just did a quick look at SWA for later this year, and there are connecting flights and direct flights (though not many), but no non stop. Direct and non stop are not the same thing

Did you look into going to TPA instead of MCO? Alaska is starting non-stop service this summer SEA-TPA. Fares are $149 one way in the fall and lots of availability. We are in GEG and it was 179 each way...assume that would be the same for PDX. Easy shuttle flight to Seattle from either place, and, IMHO, if you are renting a car anyway, Tampa is A more laid back airport and only 60-70 minutes away.

Thank you. This might just save me a few hundred dollars. Appreciate it.

We flew from PDX last year. We applied for the southwest credit card and got 50000 points after charging a certain amount. We were able to get 3 free flights out of it. No non stops but the flights were free and no bag fees. We stayed on property so did magical express and our bags showed up at the hotel- it was great.

We live across the river near Vancouver and fly out of PDX. We have made at least one trip, but normally two trips a year, to WDW for the past 20 years. Flights to Orlando have gotten so expensive and then you have to add extra $ to make sure you have the seat you requested when booking, watch that flights don't change, and deal with some really rude airline people. (at least this has been our experience). We flew Southwest for the first time last year, and even though it was not direct, we really liked their service. For our trip in September we are going to watch their prices. They have not posted past middle of August yet. Have been watching other airlines and they are about 344.00. Alaska did a nonstop from Seattle but that stopped after a couple years. Don't know any other airline that has nonstop. Never thought of flying in to Tampa but that has just given me something else to look at.

I work for an airline (the largest one out there now) and just did a quick glance at our fares for this November to see what they would cost.....if the inventory holds, the lowest fare round trip is 300 before taxes which is consistent with all the other "major" carriers. You may find a slightly lower fare on Frontier but they only really offer 1 trip a day.

I know you aren't planning on going until 2015 but its a ballpark figure. While flights on us are not non stop, the connections are quick either through PHX or DFW. It appears that Southwest is the only airline currently offering direct flights (meaning 1 stop, but no change of planes). All the others will make plane changes enroute.

Sounds like a great time to both run and combine it with a family vacation!

GO DUCKS! I miss Oregon!

Another Portlander here. I travel to WDW at least once a year and usually fly Delta or United. I like leaving early so upon arrival I can utilize Magical Express and the luggage service. This year I have a trip planned for August and the prices right now are ghastly...I am hoping they drop soon. My husband just applied for a Southwest Visa card and if we're lucky maybe the bonus points will be available for booking but I've been reading that people aren't seeing those points as quickly as they would like.
