Any of you have an extra mom?

There's a lady I work with. She's a bit older, but she has declared herself my mom. Just yesterday she told me to button my coat cause it was cold and she stood there until I did.
And there is someone extra friendly there at work too. Today she asked him his intentions.

I don't know why but she seems to think I need protecting. :confused3

I don't have one, I have FIVE! :rotfl2: I am the 'baby' at work and so everybody always feels the need to look ou t for me, make sure I'm wearing a coat wh en it's cold, etc. :)

I had a 'sorta second mom' as I introduced Marcella!

Growing up, there was this couple around the corner that was childless. They 'adopted' all the neighborhood kids. Over time, my younger sister and I were considered family. If I wasn't at my own house, odds were I was there. After several years of treatments, when I was ten, they succeeded in having a child, so I have a 'sorta sister',too.

Marcella passed away in early 2002, and I miss her terribly.

I've had an assortment of "second moms" (as I call them) over the years - some "voluntarily" chosen, some who sort of chose me. Most of the time I've loved it, and a couple of those women have become amazing mentors and friends. One of them was my best freinds' mom, and a couple years after my mom died, she married my dad! She knew and loved my mom, too, so it's become a wonderful blending of families. She's not threatened by my family's traditions and memories, and she encourages us to remember and honor my mom. And her 5 kids were our best friends growing up, so it's fun to be step-siblings now. She really is my "second mom" now!

There's also been a handful of women like the one described by the OP - they just seem to think I need some mothering and they take that role upon themselves. Occasionally it's okay, but often I find it annoying, especially once I got into my late twenties. I know I look young, but really! Once the woman who was trying to mother me was 8 years younger than I was! :confused3

I've picked up at least one at every place I have ever worked! (I am a diabetic so there always comes a time where I have a low blood sugar episode and from then on I have an extra "mom" coworker looking out for me and making sure I get my breaks and snacks! :thumbsup2 )

An extra mom chiming in here. In the work place I am usually the baby but I am also the one doing the mothering. How odd is that?

All of my friends know to expect it by now. Usually it doesn't drive them too crazy.

In our culture, we need more moms...as annoying as they are....we need more people who care.

My oldest sister 'mothers' me. It is a love hate kind of thing. Guess it is kind of like that with a real mom too, lol.

I bet she just wants to see you happy all the time and wants to do what she can to keep you happy.

like spare change?

lemme give a look-see under the couch cushions...

Yep, my older sister. She's 10 years older than me and has always been my extra mom. :teeth: Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's bad but I sure do love her a whole lot.
