 I'm so excited - leaving on the Wonder 8/19/04. Are any of the adult shows or lounges non-smoking?:earsgirl:

Unfortunately, no. The places that restrict smoking all permit children, and I've never been there when there haven't been a number of families who brought their young kids to the bar. I wish Disney would designate an adult club to be both offlimits to kids and smoke-free!

Whenever we've been on board and people have brought children into Wavebands after 9 p.m., they have been asked to leave. But I agree about the smoking...bad, especially since most of the non-smoking areas are literally right in front of smoking. The people right behind you could be puffing away, and smoke does not know how to stop at an "invisible" barrier. I know that many smokers like to light up while drinking, but I think the bars should be non-smoking during shows like Match Your Mate and the 70s party. Let people light up to their heart's content before and after the shows.

What I think is funny is, DCL seems to be much better than other cruise lines I have been on when it comes to smokers. I have to avoid them more on other ships. I still wish they would make an area non-smoking for those of us that don't care for that sort of thing. My wife and I will not do any of the activities in the lounges because of her asthma. The only thing keeping us here in California is the non-smoking law for restuarants and public areas. If Florida had this law I would move in a heartbeat.

JJ..start packing! Florida now has a no smoking law for all restuarants and public areas. I think smoking is permitted if the restuarant has an outdoor area, but I'm not 100% on this.

Florida is in fact smoke free all bars and eating or public places are smoke free the only thing is that if they have an outside eating area then smokers can sit there, we found all this out after we moved here LOL

I absolutely agree about the need for smoke-free clubs for adults. We just got back from the Wonder and although I would have loved to dance, I just couldn't stand going into the smoke-filled clubs.

Promenade Lounge is non-smoking. They have nightly entertainment, a bar, etc.

FL restaurants are smoke free, but bars are NOT unless they derive at least a certain percentage of their revenue from food.

DW is VERY smoke sensitive..........I don't remember her complaining once on any of our sailings.......Hi Barb, long time no see good to see ya back on the boards........

You mean I can eat at the Waffle House without choking on smoke? I am looking for a job right now!

I keep reading that Disney people read this board. So I for one want to go on record that

I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE A NON-SMOKING lounge also.

So if someone in charge at Disney Cruise Line is reading this, give us a non-smoking lounge. I'm not asking for a smoke free ship but at least one lounge would be nice for those who have health related issues with smoke or like my wife and I, can not stand to be around it.

Promenade Lounge is non-smoking. They have nightly entertainment, a bar, etc.

Is there anyway that we could start a petition or something to Disney to officially request one lounge to be designated as a non-smoking lounge? I hate smoke and will not go to the clubs, bars etc if there is alot of smoking. Any suggestions how we could contact Disney about this?

Bev:confused:

The Prominade Lounge is a great lounge. Although it isn't a dance club. They make great martinis, have lovely entertainment in the evening, and there is something about sitting in that lounge for a before dinner drink that is really nice.

Here's a copy of the email I sent to DCL Guest Relations a while back
To Whom it May Concern,

While I understand and respect Disney Cruise Line's policy of allowing smoking in the cruise ship nightclubs after 9 PM, I felt that I had to tell you how disappointed I am with this policy. I suffer from severe allergies to cigarette smoke and cannot enter any of the following venues because of the lingering 'stench' left from the night before:

WaveBands
The Cadillac Lounge
Barrel of Laughs

I would love to be able to sit down to a nice game of bingo in WaveBands. Unfortunately I can't even walk in the door without coughing and wheezing. The same goes for Barrels of Laughs.... a nice comedy club visit would be wonderful, but it's totally out of the question; I walk into the door and begin to cough.

Since these venues also have many daytime family activities scheduled, I'm assuming that Disney believes that it is fine to subject children and non-smoking adults to second-hand smoke. Again, as an allergy sufferer, I have to disagree.

Would the Disney Cruise Line possibly consider a compromise that would satisfy both the smokers and non-smokers on the ships? Would it be possible to make ONE of the three clubs into a Non-Smoking venue and rotate the shows through all three clubs. This would afford non-smokers, whether by choice or due to health issues, a chance to enjoy ALL of the adult shows over the course of a 3 or 4 day cruise. While I know the logistics of this suggestion might pose some difficulties, I think this addresses the concerns of both camps, smokers rights and non-smokers rights.

Thank you for taking the time to consider my grievances and I hope you will take my suggestions into consideration.

Yes, Promenade Lounge is a 'lounge' and that's fine for a nice night-cap. But if you want to see any of the shows, DCL requires you to suffer with stale cigarette smoke. I'm still hoping that they will consider making at least one of the clubs non-smoking at ALL TIMES. At least I'd get to see one of the shows this cruise. Otherwise we, 2 childless adults, will be stuck participating in the family oriented entertainment. Oh fun, oh joy.
