I finally got around to going to the track today and calibrating my new Nike+ (though I actually wear my Nike+ sensor on my Sauconys). I did one "practice walk" for 1 mile, then started a 5-mile workout. All seemed to be going well until .23 miles from the end when suddenly, the music stopped playing on my iPod. (I could still hear the Nike+ "coach" but there was no music audible -- even though the song titles continued to change.) I went through the menu and selected "change music" hoping I could get something playing again, and the iPod froze. Ultimately I just tried plugging it into my computer, hoping to salvage the workout data, but it apparently lost it all -- almost 5 miles! Yeow! :sad2:

Have you guys ever lost a workout? Or had your iPod freeze during one?

I know I still did the miles and it shouldn't matter, but I wanted to see my totals grow on nike.com. :confused3

I don't have any advice, but I as a Nike+ user, I'd cry over losing almost 5 miles. I love looking at how many miles I've gone!

Mine hasn't frozen yet, but I'm sure it will. Have you looked at the nike+ forums? Maybe someone has an answer. I don't know anything beyond toggling the hold button on your ipod and then pushing the menu and round button. Sorry I'm clueless.

The Nike+ site is kind of slow to load sometimes. Does your workout show up anywhere on your iPod (in recent workouts, totals, etc)?

Oh, and I wear mine on a little pouch thing on my Sauconys too.

Here's hoping it was just a freak thing and that you'll have better luck in the future!

Wendy, I had the exact thing happen. I went to the car and plugged it in to that and the thing worked just fine. I got home and asked my DH if it worked with his headphones, and all was fine. Then I discovered that I must have touched the "pause" button for the music somehow. That is the "down arrow" if you will. It is a toggle so if you lose the music, try that. Or, I think I unplugged my headphones and reconnected them and then it happened--not sure but that button at the bottom gets it back.

Maybe yours is doing what I did to mine.

(I thought I touched the center to hear my report, but must have hit the lower to pause the music.)

I hope it is this. It makes it easy to fix then.

I use a Nike+ and thankfully I have never lost any of my workouts yet. Unfortunately, I don't have any advice as to what happened. Maybe your ipod just froze, I have had that happen before and I had to reset it and it worked fine after that. Sorry, I can't help you more.

Still don't know what went wrong yesterday, but I jumped back on the horse that threw me and actually completed a 5mi workout today and uploaded it. Whoooooohoooooo! :woohoo:

Are there any DIS challenges out there in Nike+ land, or any that you DISers are joining??? I'm thinking of doing the virtual Nilke+ Womens Half and the "31 runs in 31 days" challenge for August (run [walk for me] at least 3 miles every day in August).

It is kind of fun seeing your miles rack up out there. I can see it becoming addictive.

Wendy - Lynne, Erin and I were going to do the Nike Marathon in Oct thru Team in training. We decided not to recommit as we had only raised 3300 befor the recommitment date and would have had to raise another 9000 before oct 12. The amount of money scared us. If you don't raise it, it comes out of your credit card and the only credit cards we have are our checking accounts.

We have decided to do the virtual marathon. We are more likely to use the keychain than the necklace anyway. Also, we won't be too tired to do the TOT.

I will have to look at the Nike+ challenges. I usually train with my garmin as I feel it is more accurate but am willing to use the + system as I rarely go out without my Ipod.

Cool! I'll look for Lynn, Erin, and Kathy on the big day!

I agree wholeheartedly that the Garmin is more accurate -- and I've never lost a run/walk on my Garmin! Honestly I started experimenting with the Nike+ because I got sidelined for most of the month of July and now I'm trying to get back to where I was in my training.

It's really hard. I get frustrated quite easily when I can't keep pace today with what I was able to do almost a month ago. I hoped that being distracted by something else -- like maybe these short monthly challenges on Nike+ -- might help me regain my fitness without focusing so much on what I've lost in terms of speed (a relative term!) and fitness (and the weight I've gained while I couldn't exercise).

Historically, one of the toughest things for me to do is to start from where I am (rather than obsessing about what I could have done a month ago!)

But anyway... glad to hear I'll have some company on the virtual half!

Hey Wendy-

I'm thinking about doing the virtual half too. I don't have any races planned before the Marathon weekend and think I need something more immediate to keep me moving! (If I do ToT it will be a very slow walk for the 6.5 with my daughter- doing the virtual half the weekend before will make me feel better about just strolling at ToT).

I've done Goals and Challenges on Nike+. I think I like Goals better, but I've only done one Challenge, and maybe picked poorly (seem a bit more competitive than my style).

Seeing the goal clicker thing say you are 3 miles behind target or whatever did maybe help me get to the gym (but I've only done it a month so the novelty may wear off).

Wendy , if you still haven't resolved the problem AND you have an Apple store near you, you might want to go their for assistance. Stop by the Genius Bar and check to see if they have any Nike+ classes coming up. If not, there usually is at least one person there that's familiar with Nike+ and is able to trouble-shoot the problem for you. Good luck!

I too am still considering the virtual event. I have to figure how I'll get in the steps since it will mean leaving DH all alone in WDW while I wander about for however long it takes me then getting it uploaded. Means I'd have to take laptop and not certain I need to do this. Just want to play is all.

:)

I know what you mean, Jen. I deliberately picked the "everyone wins" kind of challenges -- a number of miles per month, or consecutive runs, or something that didn't seem as likely to spawn competitiveness rather than encouragement. I'm brand new at this, though, and still learning.

Lance Armstrong congratulated me on my longest workout to date this morning -- that was pretty cool! But, as you said, the new may wear off.

Wendy - I went out last night to see how well my Nike+ was calibrated. The block I chose mapped out at .9057 per gmap-pedometer and .91 per the Nike+. Until I get faster, it is calibrated.

Have a good training day.

WOW! Now that is pretty darned accurate!
