Any news on increased restrictions

What is Disney going to do in the next few months? I find it impossible to guess when they are already past benchmarks that would have triggered closure if they were located in my region.
Probably whatever CDC advises.

And there is no way to make an educated guess, as we have no idea if and where new variants develop and if the vaccines can offer good protection.

Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

They are bringing back the college students and they have to give them the hours that others had. They will continue to hire and still not work everyone. My friend who works at Disney Springs got scheduled for only one day. I belong to a group and lots of people are asking for shifts. Example: “Picking shift Friday 30, Saturday 31 and Sunday 1
🙂
🙂
🙂
any shift!!!!!” Someone else said her husband works housekeeping and didn’t get scheduled.

This was common pre-COVID as well. This is where Disney borders on the unconscionable as far as treating employees, in my opinion. Part-time CMs are required to have availability at least three days a week, but are not guaranteed even one shift. My DW experienced this as a part-time CM before COVID. Luckily, back then there were usually enough people willing to give up shifts for her to find multiple shifts each week.

Yes, people aren't getting hours because college students are returning. Someone involved with hiring told me that 500+ CP are arriving every week. I was just at Disney Springs a few days ago and it appeared that every single cashier at World of Disney was a college student. So while that's great for those students, not great for the full timers who aren't working as many hours as they were previously working, and even worse for part-time who in many cases aren't getting scheduled to work at all. And Disney is hiring like crazy right now, so anyone who thinks they aren't hiring is mistaken. There must be some kind of long term plan if they're hiring so many people right now who are sitting in limbo with no shifts. Planning to open more? Planning for more to quit? It's all a guessing game but seems to be challenging for everyone except the college students.

I would hope the college students are getting hours since the temporarily moved there for that reason. If Disney is shorting others, that’s on Disney.

Of course it's on Disney. It would be ridiculous to have college students move there and then not work. Just as it's ridiculous to hire so many people who think they're getting a job to pay their bills, train them, and then give them 0 hours for an entire month but keep them on the roster just in case.

Think of the number of new cast members there are. At Epcot yesterday and Fort Wilderness over the weekend we saw multiple cast members "earning their ears" shadowing others. Even on the boats and buses. Some were CP, but several were local hourly. Always be kind to those in training because they are learning a new set of skills under less than ideal conditions.

And also because our DS is one of them.

Yep, immediately prior to COVID (fall 2019) CMs in some areas had to rely on EHH to get work. Some CMs were being worked to death (Star Wars Land for instance), but other PTer's weren't getting much. During the holiday parties and food and wine getting EHH is pretty easy, but you usually had to be on exactly at the time the hours are released to get a good 25-30 hours because everyone else was waiting for the hours, too.

Do you have a reason to believe that Disney is not hiring back more Castmembers?

I was only thinking it because before Covid even happened, Disney was starting to scale back on a lot of the entertainment cast members. https://www.orlandoweekly.com/Blogs...performers-as-prices-rise-and-attendance-lags . Not having entertainment cast members, I feel, does make a difference in the parks but I still enjoy my day because usually all the other cast members are still smiling and give the best customer service. But if the those cuts before Covid was a precursor to Disney just wanting to cut down on payroll in general, then I would be worried that more cast members from other areas would start to disappear. Leading to overworked cast members that don't feel like smiling and are no longer giving amazing customer service. Which then results in me not enjoying a magical experience hahaha.

I think if there's a second shutdown or drop in tourism that is going to finish off alot of the amusement park and hotel industry. So I would expect alot of cuts and streamlining to be permanent.

They just cancelled the New York Auto Show at the Javitz Center for late August.

And Lalapalooza is getting alot of backlash because nobody was wearing masks.

and the day after lolla ended our governor announced ALL schools and child care has to require masks now. He made sure Chicago got their money and then cracked down and now communities are begging anyone who went to get tested

We are supposed to go in early Sept but I'm expecting things to continue going backwards. Who knows what this month will bring... I do hope to see social distancing back in place and limited capacity in restaurants again. I will probably cancel if that doesn't happen.

We’re already talking about whether or not we’ll cancel our December trip for the exact opposite reasons. We’ve already done two C-19 trips. I have no desire to do Disney-Lite a third time.

you should always to be kind to everyone not just cast members in training.

Definitely agree! Out here towards the west coast. Did a WDW Resort trip last December...spent a lot of $ on it because we needed a Disney fix and California was such a joke at the time. Have had 4 Disney cruises moved or cancelled; won’t do a cruise with lots of restrictions, or DLR or WDW with restrictions....will just save our $ for other vacation spending. Had COVID-19, and the vaccine...will just wait it out.

We did a trip last September and the social distancing was number one for me in making me feel more comfortable with it. Masks were second. The reports of how crazy the crowds have been and the restaurants back at full capacity during another wave in FL are definitely making me think of cancelling. The pandemic isn't over, no matter how much we are all fed up with it.

We traveled in April with 2 I vaxed kids (not eligible) and I was only at ease because of the restrictions - the social distancing and restaurant capacity and masking (everywhere was a little much but i was happy to do it indoors).

my sister is going for her 8YO birthday in August and I am so worried for them. I wish that disney would roll back or at least enforce their current mandates!

Does anyone know if any of the pre-shows have been modified / eliminated since the recent rule changes? I’m specifically thinking about the Haunted Mansion stretching room.
