Any moms go alone with their kids?

This will be our first trip to Disney, and I am bringing my daughter (who will be 8), by myself! Although people like my mom and grandma are worried about this, I am nothing but excited!!

I am going with just my kids this time.
Of course they are older so they "should" be easier.
I am really looking forward to this trip.
Their dad is not really a huge Disney fan.

I have been a single parent for 8 years now, and we DRIVE down from New Hampshire every year. Sometimes we fly, but we go alone all the time. I have had to, The first year we did this I was newly divorced, and I called my mom to say that we had gotten there safely, we had driven, and I remember saying, "I did it" I was so proud of my independence. LOL! We are going in August. You can do whatever you want. My kids are 18 and 16 now and they love it. We have to economize. We keep the cooler full. We have the free dining plan this year. But part of the trip is doing other things, visiting friends and family. We are planning on 2 weeks. I still call mom when I get there. LOL!

If you are potty trained I will adopt you!
We are close. I live about 20 min from WDW. But sadly I move to GA in a week.
I hope you have a good move. It must be really hard to pack up and leave when you live so close to WDW. Thanks for being willing to adopt me :rotfl2:

Up until this past Fall, I was a single Mom to my DS with Autism. We've gone to WDW every year since he was 6. A couple of those years, we went with someone else (my Mom or my now husband) but for a few years, it was just the two of us. It was a really wonderful time for the two of us, filled with many, many magical memories!

freckles and boo --> I also have asthma and a child with ASD. Touring the parks definitely gets easier as they get older...although my DS now has a touring plan of his own that we must stick to!
:rotfl:
We still use our GAC to help make touring the parks a little easier for all of us.

Good to hear it gets easier! Thanks. :)

nope you're not the only one.. Me and my 3 children went to WDW in March by ourselves.. me and DD8 went last September for LaborDay weekend by ourselves.. Im planning my first solo trip for this LaborDay weekend.. Fingers are crossed.. :goodvibes

I did go last August ,alone with DD9 and we had a fabulous time!!! :cool1: At first I was a bit nervous being alone with a child ...but once we arrived all my fears were put to rest. I did however make sure she had emergency info on her at all times in case we got seperated or God forbid something terrible happened to me...that way she always had our home #, WDW room #, my cell phone# etc.and was instucted to go to a CM if we ever did get seperated. We had the best time ever !!!! :thumbsup2

you're not the only mom that goes alone with their kids. you have to remember that there are some single moms out there. i'm a single mom (not by choice, im a window), and yes, i have taken my children to disney many times by myself. it was kind of difficult in the beginning because i am not used to just going alone with the children, but as we repeatedly keep coming back to disney, it was no big deal.

Not to Disney but I have taken the girls to Hersheypark at least once a week (not this year, we did Disney instead of passes, but all past years) by myself since Dh works all the time. :thumbsup2 Nursing babes and all.

Sorry you have to move, but family is important. When I grew up in Boca we would go to WDW just because we were bored and wanted something to do. I sure do miss those days. Now it takes an event planner to go!

Good luck with your DS. Our DS has autism and we also go to WDW so much because he does so well there. He is even in the process of learning speech now so he will be talking to the CM's, fingers crossed.

Good luck, God bless :grouphug:

Add me to the list too. DH likes WDW/DL but cant always take the time off work so the boys and I go without him every other year. Last year we went to WDW for a grand gathering with our friends and all the group was either single moms or women who had left the dh's at home. We had a blast just moms and kids! :grouphug:

I am also going to Disney this August with my 3 kids alone. DD1, DS3, DS9. We are driving from MI. My DH is driving down with us and then flying back right away. The kids and I are stay there for almost a month. I will be driving back alone. My DH works lots so the kids and I do stuff together alone all the time. Everyone says I'm crazy but my DS9 helps out alot. I believe any parent can do it if they put there mind to it. After all it is Disney!
LOL Teresa

Last August I went on a Mommy Daughters trip. It was myself and daughters -- 6 and 9. Had a great time.

I would do it again -- actually we were going to do it again this year, but now DH is thinking of joining us.

I'm a single mom and I've dragged my girls all over the world! We've have really wonderful vacations but WDW has been extra special for us. Don't hesitate to do it!

:sunny:

Married, husband disabled, so I go with DD4 everwhere solo. Have a great time, and it's great one on one time.

I take my three year old to parks A LOT! We have APs to Disney, Sea World and Cypress Gardens. I'd say we go at least twice a week. Usually just a few hours. But...I never see other moms alone. Tell me I'm not the only mom out there that does this.

yes. We have 4 kids. Dh does not care for the parks as I do, he prefers DCL. Sometimes I take 1 kid for one on one time, some times I take 2, so they can bond better with each other (usually the 2 who are fighting the most) and sometimes I get crazy and take all 4 by myself. Last year I took them all ages 9/8/5 and 2. We had so much fun we are doing it again this year! My DH says he admires me for being able to do it, because he can hardly take them to a restaurant by himself! haha

I took DD ( then 6) last year alone. It was the first trip since my divorce so I was a little worried but really excited that we could have this time together. Dd was diagnosed with tyope 1 diabetes just days before we went so I had to learn how to care for her in WDW. We are going back in August for 10 days and I am so excited.
We have Kings Island near us and we go several times a week. We also do the Aquarium, zoo, etc. all alone. If I lived near Disney we would go every night..lol.

I too am a single mother (widow) and last year went to WDW with my DS4.
We are going again this August. We had a blast! :goodvibes
Anyone else visiting WDW 8/21-29? Maybe get together to visit the parks?

Me too!

This trip (in 18 days!) will be the second trip since my divorce with just me and the kids. We went 2 years ago, and absolutley had a blast! It was a great time for the 3 of us to just have fun, and enjoy being together.

I have had to politely decline several offers from friends and family to join us on this trip. It really surprised me how many different people "offered" to come come along when I mentioned my plans. This is our family vacation, and I can hardly wait!! :goodvibes
