If so, are your guys taking MCAS this week?

DS is, and when he picked out his clothes, he chose his David Ortiz tshirt. I asked him why he picked it, and he told me because even in the hardest spots Big Papi always does his best, and he wants some of that to rub off when he takes his test today.

Good Luck to all our test takers!

Not a parent yet, but my wife is a 3rd grade teacher. Your son sounds like a
bright young man. Good luck to him!

I live in MA and have a 5th and 7th grader taking the tests this week (and I think the 7th grader also has it next week). I was recently talking to someone working closely with the DOE to improve test scores in under-performing schools - she said that the DOE will eventually begin testing at the preschool level - is that crazy or what??!!

I also have an 11th grader who is thrilled that he is finished with MCAS tests (end at 10th grade as long as you pass). However, he does have SATs this Saturday...

DS17 scored very well on the 10th grade MCAS and will most likely receive the John and Abigail Adams award for free tuition at any state school. This includes UMass and is a wonderful program for families who could not afford to send their kids to college.

The next segment of MCAS will be late May - everything but the ELA (English Language Arts) portion that they're taking now.

I have mixed feelings about all this testing thanks to NCLB...

DD in 4th grade just left home with healthy snacks to eat during her MCAS testing. I think she's more excited that her "homework" for this week, is eating healthy and getting to bed early. No lucky shirt for her, she's just hoping to finish on time.

DS is in the 10th grade at Catholic school, where MCAS testing is not required.

Bearvet, best of luck to your son with regards to the John & Abigail Adams award. I have some friends who looked into it with UMass Amherst. Unfortunately, it doesn't cover the fee's/room/board, which can add up to about $10,000. My oldest is in college and every little bit does help though.
