See...that's why I love you guys... my new found friends! There is nothing worse than finding out these little surprises after you arrive!!!! Do you think they will let only some of us, let's say half our party, go on the bus???

yes - we did that in January. We rentaed a car while some of our party took the ME. It wasn't a problem. When they checked in to the ME desk, they just let them know not everyone in the booklet was using the service.

Thanks again....now we just have to get the van!!!!
Thanks to those who posted codes. I'm going to give them to my Dad to work with.

Debbie - Welcome to the boards. Are you planning on using the rental van extensively on your trip or will you most likely being parking it for just in case stuff? Are you going to Universal Studios for a day here or there or do you plan to stay exclusively on disney property? I never rent a car for my WDW trips and would use ME for our future trips after trying it for a return trip to the airport this past July. Why spending $300+ when you don't have to? If you plan to stay at Disney only and use mainly disney transportation when you get there then I'd just use ME and not worry about a rental vehicle.

I'm looking into SUV's so the Amex code is producing an awful rate for that category so I shot it. :badpc: It looked better with the AAA rate. Sorry Madge - I didn't mean to kill your boyfriend. :rotfl: I think I'm going to do the one way rental to port and book a transportation company from the port to WDW. I've only rented twice while I was down there since we were be-bopping all over the place but I can't see me spending $350-$500 a week for a SUV that will be sitting in a parking lot.

Well, my Mom is kind of a monorail snob. We did the bus thing in the past and had a car in 2005 and she loved the car for going to MGM, water parks, etc. She is the MAIN reason we stay at GF. Plus we just like to be able to run out for some staples to keep in the fridge too. I hope some good price come along though or they'll be getting a small car and we WILL be taking the buses!.Of course, no offense to the buses. Been there done that. I just will have two little ones this trip and I'm just thinking lazy!
Oh and we will NOT being leaving WDW property for more than shopping for pop and stuff.

LOL! I don't blame you!

:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

PS... how SAD is it that I'm excited for $194 for an 8 day car rental? that's almost HALF of my airfare!

Ok, Debbie, that makes sense too. :thumbsup2 I'm just too lazy to tote myself around. Plus, how am I going to partake in all the adult beverages they offer if I have to worry about driving? :teeth: I'm not cooking or cleaning - now driving has been added to the what I'm not doing while on vacation.

Madge - I hear ya! Your car rental is almost paying for one roundtrip airfare from my airport. BTW, if your sweetums decides to be nice and throw out a great SUV rate I'll be ready to apologize and grovel. ;)

Debbie...WELCOME to the DIS!

I was just playing around with your dates and got a great rate using the KISS (not KISS2) code at www.dollar.com. $242.62/total for a minivan for your dates! That's not too bad. Dollar is probably going to be your best bet for a minivan as National and Alamo seem to rate their mini's above a SUV (dollar does the opposite usually). I hope this helps!

Dollar is onsite at the airport so that is a bonus. This rate even beats Thrifty! I hope this helps!

Oops - I just checked and the KISS2 code produces the same rate!

Man - I meant to edit my last post and ended up quoting myself...sorry!

THANKS! You rock!
I will give the info to my Dad who's in charge of car rental!
I keep printing all the codes and notes for him!

I love finding good car rental deals! In my opinion it is the one part of a vacation that you can try to truly cut costs. Good luck!

VAGal76.... I just realized that I "know" you, LOL... you're a lizority girl, too... I've seen you on the S/D sorority thread! :teeth:

If you had already figured that out, please don't tell me... I'm in pre-trip packing panic and I'm not as sharp as I sometimes am! ;)

PS. I'll be checking car rates until Wednesday morning! I'm hoping National will throw me something good on Tuesday!

No, that's the bottom line - taxes and everything. $194.16, using the AAA code and entertainment coupon. It sounds like it must have gone up since I booked earlier in the week.

I tried to get the Dollar KISS2 rate, but the minivans are sold out for Thursday. I guess the discount could be blacked out for the holiday, not sure. At any rate, I can't get the discount at Dollar.

Yes, that AMEX code is much better. Wish I had an American Express card now... :sad2: .

decided to take a chance & book using the amex corp. id, since we'll be using EA anyway...hope I don't get asked to produce it.

do you get the extra free driver with amex?

Yep, that would be me. :teeth: :rotfl2: I'm going nuts with all the last minute stuff too. There is always one hang up with each trip and this time it's transportation to/from port this go around.

To others looking at intermediate size - it looks like Amex code is the best - Carlson code too. AAA is good for mid-size & standard SUVs in case there are others that are interested. BTW, if you are EA member and rent something larger you can still bypass the counter, pick your vehicle out of the appropriate row and head out. I've done this twice now and had a SUV both times.

The best rate I could get for National was using the Continental Airlines code - it is for members of their frequent flyer club, but anyone can sign up for free on Continental's web site - and the $20 entertainment coupon (same discount as the coupon code ND41 that you can get on National's web site).

For 8 days, Oct. 13 - 21, Emerald Aisle, intermediate, my grand total, including all taxes & fees is $183.25.

We'll be a little tight in an intermediate with our luggage, so I'm hoping we can actually get something bigger off the aisle. If not, we'll deal with it for the short ride to WDW!

I just booked it this morning. I just ran a couple of scenarios to see if it was still avaialbe, and it seems that the price is varying (by quite a bit) depending on the time of day that you are picking up / dropping off. If I price it as you did, with pickup and drop off both at noon, I get the higher rate. But, if I use my actual times, which are pickup at 5:30pm on the 13th and drop off at 3:00 pm on the 21st, I get the lower price.

FYI - I just played around with it a bit more, and it seems like picking it up at 4:00 pm or later is the key - an earlier pick up time results in the higher rate. Once you hit a pick up time of 4:00, the base rate drops.
