I know I have seen threads about this but I cannot find one! If we board early (about 11) and then our college student (not 21 yet) meets us at the ship later (like 2 pm), there is no issue if he checks in on his own, right?

No problem. He will need a photo ID to board. You/he will need to show a birth certificate or passport when checking the family in.

Yep. The age of not yet 21 doesn't matter. As long as he is an adult at 18. He just needs to show the necessary forms like the PP MENTIONED.

Let me make a correction. It needs to be a government issued photo ID. A drivers license will work. A student ID would not.

Is the government ID in addition to a passport or will a passport only be sufficient for them to board?

Given that a passport is a photo ID issued by a federal government, I think it will count as "government ID" ;)

Luckily he did just get a passport. I just didnt want to have to wait to board for him to arrive. So I am glad to hear we can go ahead and he can chexk in on his own and catch up on the ship. He was originally going to drive with us but switched plans last minute. I guess they grow up and you have to let go...
