any info on travel insurance

It's not the $200 for having to see a doctor that you need to worry about (as someone said, probably cheaper outside US). It's the $60,000-$75,000 evacuation if you are very ill or badly injured and have to be evaluated back to US.

I read a story just today about a family supposed to go on Alaska cruise -i forget the line. Bought the airfare through the cruise line and were booked to come in DAY OF CRUISE. They questioned it but cruise line said it would be fine. You guessed it....late plane, they missed the cruise. $60,000. Cruise line so far has offered to reimburse flight but not cruise because they did not have insurance. This should be fun to watch.

Edited to add - found the story:
William “Kip” Thompson. In June, the family missed a $61,000 Alaska vacation they had planned, because a flight from Greensboro that Norwegian Cruise Line booked them on was canceled. Subsequently, the cruise operator kept $58,300 the family had prepaid.

Cruise line says Thompsons should've bought trip insurance - Roanoke Times

The same thing happened for neighbors of ours last month. A multi-generational trip of 23 was set to take a Med cruise (I don't know which line). They all were on the same flight and it was delayed. Trying to get everyone over to Rome would take days and they missed the whole trip 😢 no reimbursement as the cruise line had nothing to do with the flight delay.

Cruise line says Thompsons should've bought trip insurance - Roanoke Times

Why in the world would that family pay 60k up front and not get travel insurance?? The article states the customer is an eye surgeon, so he should know of the the possibility of medical emergencies since his job is dealing with such things! I feel bad for them, but that is just stupid. Everyone thinks they will never use travel insurance until they need it…

We use the Allianz annual plan as it covers all our trips. We've, unfortunately, had to file two claims in the past year. The first from December when Alaska Airlines cancelled our flight and then declined to book us on anything else and we ended up paying twice as much to take a flight home on Delta. After that I learned that we had maxed out our benefit and so Allianz gave us a pro-rated refund for the unused portion of the year and I bought a whole new annual plan and unfortunately we had to file another claim because the Dream was unable to dock in Isafjordur last month and the tour company we booked with declined to give us a refund. I filed the claim online and had a check just a couple weeks later. I'll not get a refund and repurchase this time as we didn't use all the benefit up.

Frustrated with the options through a particular site, I went directly to Allianz and bought cruise insurance that way.

Then I compared rental car insurance rates and found the policy through priceline was a few dollars more but better coverage than buying direct.

I would have never thought to buy trip insurance for a cruise until I noticed cruise vloggers mentioning it.

All great suggestions, but also check out TravelEx - I'm an agent and that's what I use! I always tell people to get the insurance - it's peace of mind and really inexpensive!

Cruise line says Thompsons should've bought trip insurance - Roanoke Times

When I originally read this post I missed the part that they had booked the flights THROUGH NORWEGIAN. I always assumed if you bought the flights through the cruise line they would figure out a way to get you onto the ship, or hold it for you. What is Disney's policy on that?

Why didn't they rent a car to get to Vancouver instead of trying to Uber?

Same here. 40+ years of working and never had a group plan that did not cover me outside the U.S. Insurance rep said that is not uncommon since, honestly, if you get sick outside the U.S. the cost of medical treatment is probably going to be LESS than they would have to pay in the U.S. But I am on Medicare now, and it covers nothing out side the U.S., HOWEVER my private Medicare Supplement covers 80% of all medical care costs outside the U.S. So all I need is enough coverage to cover that 20% and medical evacuation if you feel you want that coverage.
Also, check what if any coverage your credit card provides and what you need to do to activate that coverage. Usually they require the entire trip to have been charged to that credit card.
And now something to check if you buy trip insurance, find out if it covers covid. Some travel medical plans now exclude any coverage for covid. At first they did that because cruise lines were covering those costs to lure passengers back onto their ships. But I think most cruise lines have ended that perk.
Looking to up my parents medical insurance. Could you tell me who your Medicare supplement is? Could you PM me? I’ve never had to search for insurance before always got them through employers. There are vultures calling the house constantly trying to get them to sign up for new supplement insurance. I’m terrified to get that fly by night insurance company that covers nothing.
